Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” director’s cut: no tongue, no twerk, and all the #feelings.
We’re honestly still piecing ourselves together after watching Miley Cyrus‘ smashing “Wrecking Ball” video — you know, that Bangerz clip where she tongues a sledgehammer, swings around on a literal wrecking ball, and strips down both physically and emotionally. (But mostly physically.)
Well, after peeling off her clothes again for Rolling Stone, grinding on a bootleg Elmo, and sidling up to Mike WiLL Made It in yesterday’s “23” video, we fully expected Miley’s just-released “Wrecking Ball” director’s cut to up the twerk ‘n’ tongue ante. (Is that even possible at this point??) Like, maybe she’d mock felate/roll around in the broken pile of rubble, cannonball into a pool of tears, or even bounce around on a yoga ball. …Never mind.
But nope, we were so, so wrong. Read on for the key differences between Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” original and the director’s cut!
1.) MILEY’S READY FOR HER CLOSE-UP: Unlike her original video, the “Wrecking Ball” director’s cut is one long, continuous shot of Miley singing and staring directly into the camera à la Sinéad O’Connor‘s famous “Nothing Compares 2 U.” So yeah, Miley’s still naked, but in a whole other way. The #vulnerable way.

2.) SO MUCH CRYING: Ahhhh, Miley! Don’t cry! Sure, she may have shed a tear or two in “Wrecking Ball”‘s original opening sequence, but the director’s cut has our girl tearing up multiple times, wiping away the waterworks, and holding her head in pain. SO MUCH PAIN. If you need us, we’ll be up to our elbows in
3.) NO TONGUE, NO TWERK: Miley may not have pulled her signature “We Can’t Stop” tuchus move in “Wrecking Ball”‘s original, but she DID, like we mentioned earlier, get to first base with a sledgehammer. This time, however, Miley’s tongue stays firmly in her mouth. (Except for at the veryyyy end — WE KNEW SHE COULDN’T RESIST!!)
4.) WAY MORE #FEELINGS: All the #feelings. #Feelings party. Also: We know this is a highly vulnerable, emotional, and sensitive time, but we gotta give full #props to Miley / Miley’s makeup artist for keeping her mascara firmly intact during her cry sesh. #TeachUsYourWays
5.) OH HAI, TERRY RICHARDSON: I guess it wouldn’t be a true “director’s cut” if the actual video director didn’t make a cameo, right? WAY TO BE LITERAL, GUYS.
