Last Friday night, one of our favorite bands, CHVRCHES, performed at New York’s Webster Hall as part of MTV Hive’s “Artist To Watch Live” concert series. And if the huge buzz preceding their freshly minted debut, The Bones Of What You Believe, wasn’t loud enough already, their live set certainly surpassed it, proving that the Scottish electro-pop trio are as riveting in person as they are on record.

Frontwoman Lauren Mayberry’s voice strikes a lingering, slightly sweet timbre, but as we heard in “Recover” and “The Mother We Share,” the group’s ’80s-flavored synthpop has a dark, bittersweet undertone to it. Live, the latter song resonates thanks to audience-assisted hand claps and plenty of dancing. See for yourself below.
