Holy Ghost! synthify Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
That said, lots of musicians have jumped at the chance to cover: Fellow rapper Rick Ross has already reinterpreted “Hold On,” and so has Dev Hynes of Lightspeed Champion / Blood Orange. And now? NYC-based electro-disco duo Holy Ghost! has joined in the Drizzy party with their own synthed-out rendition of Drake’s hit.
Listen to Holy Ghost! cover Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” after the jump.
Filmed as a pseudo-music video for Revolt TV, Holy Ghost!’s rendition of “Hold On, We’re Going Home” is a visual homage to New York City (as opposed to Drake’s hometown of Toronto) and strips out Drake’s urban drawl in favor of the boys’ echoing, production-heavy vocals.
Flanked by footage of the NYC skyline, live concert clips, and the occasional shout-out to the MTA, Holy Ghost!’s cover and video pay homage to Drake’s original melody, but the entire song is played at a quickened pace, and tacks on layers of dance-floor synths, electronic drums, and high-pitched keyboard.
Now, we might be the fangirliest of fangirls for Drake’s original “Hold On,” but we could be just as dedicated to Holy Ghost!’s electo reinterpretation. The more tracks we can add to our “Dance Floor Seduction” mix, the merrier!
