Will.i.am is all ’bout that mirror in “Feeling Myself.”
Tell me if this sounds familiar: It’s Friday night — HA, just kidding, Friday’s when we curl up into an end-of-week ball and fall asleep at 9 p.m. Anyway, it’s Saturday night, you’ve got your most sparkly going out top on, maybe you’re doin’, as Kanye might say, a little sippy sippy, and you’re twerking it to your favorite “GOING OUT, Y’ALL” pre-club playlist.
But here’s the thing. This isn’t your typical going-out track — judging by “Feeling Myself”‘s choppy bass line, frequent finger snaps, and self-congratulatory lyrics (“The mirror be like, baby you the sh**”), it seems like we’re dealing with a bona fide Narcissist Selfie Anthem.
Listen to Will.I.Am’s “Feeling Myself” featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, and French Montana after the jump.
Appearing on will.i.am’s upcoming re-release of #willpower (out in December), “Feeling Myself” is your basic “pop molly in da club” booty anthem. “Look up at the mirror and the mirror look at me/ The mirror be like ‘baby, you the sh** godd***n it,” Will recites as Miley jumps into say her piece: “Now everybody trippin’ like they poppin’ molly/ Up in the club, is where you can find me/ I do it real big never do it tiny/ If you about that bullsh**, please don’t remind me.”
Wow! We really do like ourselves, don’t we? No self-esteem issues here. Not that we want Will, Miley, Wiz, and French to start visiting thinspo websites, or anything — a little self-confidence is a good thing! But you know what they say: If you have you keep reminding people that you’re the king, then… Well, you know the rest.
