The 3 First Year-End Pop Mashups Are Also The Best Pop Mashups (VIDEOS)

Listen to DJ Earworm's mindbending year-end mashup!

DJ Earworm’s mashup is literally the mixtape of our wildest dreams!

Thanksgivvukah has come and gone, Hanukkah is in full swing, and Christmas is right around the corner. So, aside from the “holiday 15″ weight gain, useless gift socks, and super-trashy New Year’s Eve plans, that means it’s also time for the annual end-of-the-year mashups! You know, that special time when the world’s top DJs release massive musical Frankensteins composed of the year’s most impressive pop tracks!

So, who’s killing the mashup game this year? As you might’ve suspected, the absurdly talented DJ Earworm (he brought us this piece of pop music gold around this time last year) is currently in full mashup slay-age mode. Plus, there’s also Daniel Kim, whose “Pop Danthology” includes a whopping 68 (!) of the best and brightest pop songs of 2013. Oh, and let’s not forget about Mashup-Germany, who miraculously found a way to mix Katy Perry‘s “Roar” with Jason Derulo‘s “Talk Dirty To Me.” CONSIDER OUR MINDS BLOWN!

Listen to DJ Earworm’s “United State Of Pop 2013 (Living The Fantasy),” Daniel Kim’s “Pop Danthology,” and Mashup-Germany’s year-end mix after the jump.

Titled “United State of Pop 2013 (Living the Fantasy),” DJ Earworm’s year-end mashup takes a deeper, heavier approach than his flirty 2012 offering. “Living The Fantasy” features a slew of melancholy ballads like the “sad bath”-ridden “Stay” by Rihanna, “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus, Pink and Nate Ruess‘ “Just Give Me A Reason,” and Avicii and Aloe Blacc‘s lyrically poignant “Wake Me Up.”

But don’t be fooled — even amidst the dramatic and vaguely ominous baseline courtesy of “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, Earworm manages to sneak in Justin Timberlake‘s “Mirrors,” Robin Thicke‘s” Blurred Lines,” and even Taylor Swift‘s “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

On his approach, Earworm explained to Billboard: “It’s a little darker-themed, I think… The ballads seem to be a lot more present than they have been in many years, and the dance music is having less strong of a pull.”

Next up is Kim’s “Pop Danthology,” which, in case we didn’t emphasize it enough earlier, includes 68 of this year’s hottest chart-toppers! (FYI, it took the man 180 TO COMPLETE!!!!) While Kim and Earworm have a few crossovers, Kim’s mix also includes club bangers like Selena Gomez‘s “Slow Down” and Britney Spears‘ “Work Bitch.”

Plus, there’s this one extra INSANE, totally mind-bending moment that features Christina Aguilera‘s “Feel This Moment” hook expertly “smushed” — industry term, guys — with Demi Lovato‘s “Heart Attack.” YEP! THINK ABOUT IT.

Lastly, we’ve got Mashup-Germany’s year-end roundup, which, much like Earworm’s, prominently features “Wake Me Up.” But somehow, SOME WAY, Mashup-Germany was able to finagle the now iconic horn hook from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ “Thrift Shop” over Avicii’s moving, folksy dance tune.

Honestly, each of these three mashups are incredible for their own reasons, and it’s quite literally impossible for us to pick a favorite. In fact, we vote to just kidnap all three of these musical prodigies so that we can conduct noninvasive scientific experiments on their brains until we figure out what kinda effed-up genius gene they all share. (GUESS WHO’S BEEN WATCHING “THE WALKING DEAD.”)
