Lorde, Disclosure, and AlunaGeorge… All in one place? THANK YOU, BRITAIN.
The performances at the 2014 BRIT Awards colored us surprised on Wednesday. (Wait, I mean, colour us unsurprised. #PipPip) We’ve already had MORE than a moment to obsess over Beyoncé’s “XO” and Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” sets. In fact we’ve had seven. No, eight! Wait, nine! Gah, we can’t count any higher! Many moments were had.
But, we’ve still gotta give it up for what might’ve been the biggest delight of the night: when Lorde (who won International Female Artist), Disclosure, and Aluna Francis of AlunaGeorge teamed up to make our sparse, moody synth-pop dreams come true, melding “Royals” and “White Noise” live onstage.
Getting harder to deny your pop-royalty status, Lorde!
Given the fact that we’ve seen Lorde perform her breakthrough hit many times in the past few months (the Grammy Awards, “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” “Big Morning Buzz“), it was so fun to hear Disclosure put their signature, spacey-ethereal spin on the track. Also fun? Lorde’s glam-goth Tom Ford look. Done.
DANCE, ALUNA, DANCE! #obsessed
Suddenly, Lorde’s “royals, royals” wailing began to speed up. Then, Aluna skipped onstage to grab the mic and switch into “White Noise.” Obvs, Aluna’s fairy vocals were amazing, but can we also just say how much we LIVED for her Parker Posey in “Party Girl” stage presence? He-he-hello! #NATASHA
