“What’s it going to be, me or the music?” DJ Cassidy’s girlfriend asks him at the beginning of his new video for “Calling All Hearts,” the debut single from his upcoming Paradise Royale. It’s a tough call, but you can probably guess where his true love lies.
It’s with the super-cool, taxidermied cat smoking in the window of a store! And then music. Then the girlfriend. Maybe all three? Or, is a perfectly fitted hat Cassidy’s one true love?
The jubilant song bounds along on a pop-funk-disco euphoria, despite all the hangdog mugging that opened the video. (Some of that bounce, BTW, comes from Nile Rodgers, who lent Daft Punk so much cool on “Get Lucky.”) That’s because, much like chewing gum and walking, it’s almost impossible to dance and mope at the same time. #Fact
So, get out on the dance floor! Whether or not your moves are as expertly executed as the immaculately styled, “Soul Train”-esque dancers that pop up in between shots of Thicke and Jessie remains to be seen, but the important thing is that you simply try.
“Four years ago, I set out on a mission to bring the greatest and most universal dance music of all time back to the airwaves, back to nightlife, back to the dance floor,” Cassidy said in an interview with Rolling Stone. Looks like he’s off to a pretty good start.
