You’ll have a wicked hard time feeling glum once MisterWives are through with you.
A couple of guitars, a pared-down drum kit, an accordian, a glockenspiel, five pairs of clap-ready hands, and one explosive voice — that’s all that MisterWives armed themselves with before entering the “Buzzworthy Live” studio to perform an acoustic version of their indie-pop track, “Reflections.” Needless to say, they emerged victorious.
Watching the New York band perform with such a quirky array of instruments, you could easily imagine them being some traveling band of musically gifted rascals, Pied Piper-ing their way from meal to meal over the countryside. (Maybe solving a couple spooky mysteries à la The Boxcar Children? We could definitely get on board with that.)
The idyllic landscape painted by MisterWives’ newly unplugged accompaniment is totally dreamy. It’s like, if Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Florence + The Machine went on a B.Y.O.G. (bring your own glockenspiel) picnic together — hippie-pop heaven on earth, basically.
Oh, and in case MisterWives’ cover of “Money On My Mind” didn’t already make this clear, lead singer Mandy Lee’s voice is, like, a double rainbow with little fireworks exploding inside of its arc, each one eventually burning into the shape of a tinier, yet equally brilliant, double rainbow of its own ad infinitum… or some other, less cumbersomely worded metaphor that means “SHE SINGS REAL GOOD.”
So, go ahead and whip off your shoes, and pretend you’re sitting in the middle of a field of daisies as you watch the acoustic rendition of “Reflections” below. If anyone gives you trouble, just “Oooo-oo-oo-oo-oo” ‘em into submission. MisterWives for all!
