As promised, Ashanti made her triumphant return to MTV today with a stop on TRL. Oh, and the backstage report, by the way: Ashanti rolled up into the studio -- with Momanger Tina, natch, and no sign of Nelly -- in some totally "they're just like us" comfy sweats and Uggs, and then turned it out like a full-on fashionista in some smart plaid pants and two-tone up-do. After the show, she spotted tiny Christina Ricci and gave her some famous-people props. Cute!

Today is very special, not just because it's the first official day AFTER the 80th Annual Academy Awards (AKA Hangover Day in Hollywood). A cover of a recent issue of Esquire asked "When the hell did Christina Ricci become so sexy?" Uh, she's always been sexy to us. But she's definitely been getting hotter for sure. And since she turned out a disturbingly seductive/destructive performance in Black Snake Moan, mainstream brands are noticing. Last night she attended the launch party of the Samsonite Black Label Fashionaire Collection at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York. She's the "ambassador" for the line, whatever that means. But who cares, she looked classic and still a little trashy...just the way we like her. Oh you pretty dirty thing...
