about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

Jonas Brothers bros' and (Buzzworthy besties) Honor Society just premiered their brand-new video for their track "Over You." As the lead-off song on their debut full-length Fashionably Late, "Over You" is a bouncing, sleek jam.

Color this song maroon, as in Maroon 5; it's got that same crisp beat and stylish/sexy singing, with a slightly more pop feel.

In the video for "Over You," directed by Shane Drake (who directed Paramore's "Decode" video and "crushcrushcrush"), Honor Society kicks out the jams in the dining car of a train while Michael Bruno chases down a lady in red who's caught his eye. Come on, girl! He wants to buy you extra toppins at Pinkberry!

+ The gargantuan line-up for 2009 Lollapalooza at Chicago's Grant Park was just announced, and it's fuller than a tick on a three-day suck!! The roster includes HUGE acts like Depeche Mode, The Killers, Snoop Dogg, and Beastie Boys, plus more of your favorites like Kings of Leon, Asher Roth, Santigold, and Silversun Pickups. What? NO CHROMEO?? (The Tripwire)

+ Today we mourn the loss of Ozzy Osbourne's dog Little Bit, who was shredded to, um... bits by a coyote. (Sleaze Roxx)

+ Kelly Rowland has bean tearing up the charts both overseas and stateside recently, with the rise of her new single "When Love Takes Over." Tonight we'll get to see her perform it live on the So You Think You Can Dance results show with French DJ David Guetta. Can't wait! (Neon Limelight)

+ American Idol winner Jordin Sparks just dropped her next single "S.O.S." and, thankfully, it's a DANCE track (all the gays say "Ay-ohhhhhh!!!"). What makes it even more awesome is that it samples the old freestyle song "Let The Music Play." Love it. (Perez Hilton)

+ Rapper Bow Wow seemed to be a little down in the Twitter dumps, as manifested in this Tweet from yesterday. (Bossip)

+ Man, I am craving some Toblerone after hearing that Maroon 5 are heading to Switzerland to work on their third album with Mutt "You're-an-idiot-for-cheating-on-Shania-Twain" Lange. (NME)

If you watch REALLY closely and very carefully, it ALMOST seems like Joey Fatone's hitting on the model in this behind-the-scenes video taken at an *NSYNC video shoot back in 2000 -- from the looks of Joey's Manic Panic red streaks, I'd say they were probably shooting the "It's Gonna Be Me" video. And I know -- Joey? Hitting on a pretty girl? Crazy, right? And so subtle!

Oh, and here's some knowledge for you, the girl in the video is model Kim Smith -- Tyson Ritter's longtime girlfriend. She was also in *NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" video and Maroon 5's "Wake Up Call."

+ Watch *NSYNC's vintage video after the jump, check out more prom videos, watch Justin make fun of Lance Bass for forgetting the words to "It's Gonna Be Me," and watch JC Chasez at the TRL finale.

Alex Greenwald -- Phantom Planet frontman, Mark Ronson collaborator, and former model -- used to be so freaking hot it was almost impossible to look at him without thinking "nasty thoughts," as Janet Jackson once said. But not long ago, a paparazzi photo popped up in which the once-smokin' Alex looked like a straight-up hobo. Still, who'd he have hanging on his arm? British supermodel and Met Ball belle Agyness Deyn.

While we've got no problem with some slight shagginess, Alex Greenwald has seen better days, and his unkempt hair looks gnarlier than ever. (A tip: lather, rinse, repeat... repeat... repeat...) Still, Alex bagged a supermodel, so maybe the joke's on us.

Anyway, the shaggy/smoldering combo of Alex Greenwald and Agyness Deyn reminded us of some more hot chicks and the mangy men they love. So check out more of Buzzworthy's favorite guys who look like they live in boxcars and the beautiful babes who love them anyway.

Ryan Adams: Alt-country musician Ryan Adams won the heart of pop-folk singer Mandy Moore, who's had high-profile romances with tennis hunk Andy Roddick as well as Wilmer Valderrama and Zach Braff, while Ryan dated pretty Parker Posey. But it was ultra-shaggy Ryan who swept Mandy off her feet: Ryan and Mandy got married just last month. Hopefully the groom, uh, groomed for the big day.

Alex DeLeon: Okay, Alex DeLeon -- who's been linked to the radiant Demi Lovato -- used to be way more polished, but when he came to MTV for The Cab's Buzzworthy interview in March 2009, his broken-ended hair, fuzzy facial hair and leather accessories kinda made him look like he was running from the law. Bring back unquestionably hot Alex!

Ben Gibbard: Indie superstar Ben Gibbard's sensitive vocals are the perfect match for Zooey Deschanel. Zooey, dubbed "the rich man's Katy Perry" -- oh snap! -- by one site, has had leading roles in a slew of movies like Elf, where she showed off her vocal cords and her adorablility. Even though the oft-unshaven Ben's been featured on UglyMales.com (to the objection of many commenters, to be fair), he and Zooey matched up not only musically, but they're also engaged. Aww! Indie romance!

Joe Trohman: It's clear that Pete Wentz-ian man-glam is not Joe Trohman's style. But there are other ways to stand out besides looking like a homeless man who wandered off the street and onto the stage. His disheveled, mountain-man look has still been described as "wonderfully hobo-esque meets Jesus." True! We're not saying Joe's not hot. We just miss his From Under The Cork Tree-era/ "Dance Dance" short hair. Still, he nabbed a super-cute girl and put a ring on dat; he and Marie (above) are engaged.

+ More hobo guys and hot girls after the jump.

I mean WHO? WHO? In their RIGHT OR LEFT MIND would LEAVE David Cook? SHAME ON YOU, Sarah Roemer, even though you're just PORTRAYING David Cook's lost love. Also, David, you are PHENOMENAL at playing piano in reverse and hailing a cab in the middle of the woods. (I can hardly get one in Times Square!) That takes SKILL! And, as always, David Cook, your soulful scruff is the picture of perfection!

Watch David Cook's visually arresting new video, "Come Back To Me," from his certified Platinum self-titled debut. The "Come Back To Me" video was shot at LAX airport -- Maroon 5 also shot their "Make Me Wonder" video there -- by Gavin Bowden (Lifehouse, Jason Mraz, Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Plus, watch David Cook answer Buzzworthy fan questions!

Ever secretly wanted to be a fly on the wall during someone else's breakup? (Wait, you have?? Um, CREEPY alert!) Look, we're all in favor of voyeurism (in moderation) but we can't think of anything less fun than getting in the middle of someone's Horrifically Awkward Life Moment.

But good news for those of you who actually like seeing two people's once-blossoming romance disintegrate right before your very eyes: Maroon 5 just made an awesome new video that lets you watch lead singer Adam Levine's romance go from lovey-dovey to mopey, post-breakup pouty in four minutes flat!

So check out "Goodnight Goodnight" (the new video off M5's It Won't Be Soon Before Long), admire the litheness of Adam's "In Bed Alone ... Again" body and ask yourselves why he'd ever choose moody, sullen isolation over making out with a hot Gisele Bundchen lookalike. (Also, what's up with all those band before-and-afters? We know, it would have been weird to leave them out of the video entirely but, c'mon, how frickin' upset are they gonna be over some other dude's ex-girlfriend?)

+ The Rolling Stones are suing rapper Lil Wayne for copyright infringement -- and for putting out a much, much worse version of their '65 classic "Playing With Fire." (MTV)

+ Meanwhile, we've always thought "I'm a venereal disease" was up there with Lil Wayne's most questionable line. But that was before we remembered this gem: "Listening to Lil Wayne is like picking up a Bible." Amen, brother. (Spinner)

+ Metromix NY draws a highly editorial parallel between Maroon 5's Adam Levin and Counting Crows' Adam Duritz, and it's not just their first name. (Metromix NY)

+ Meanwhile My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has announced he's got a "pretty freakin' cool" Bob Dylan cover track on the way. (NME)

+ David Cook's reportedly been sporting an "I Love David" bracelet on the American Idol tour. The weird part? It's really in reference to Idol runner-up David Archuleta! "I'm actually a pretty big Archuleta fan," Cook admits. (Billboard)

+ 50 Cent changes the lyrics in "My Life" to something that doesn't scream "I hate Eminem." (MTV)

+ Simon & Schuster sues Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown for taking hefty book advances without ever delivering the books. (Idolator)

Jorma Taccone is used to playing and writing funny -- he's an actor and Saturday Night Live writer (you have him to thank for the "Iran So Far" sketch featuring Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Andy Samberg and the much-forwarded "Chronicles of Narnia (Lazy Sunday)"), and if you haven't seen his Lonely Island sketches, then you need a new life.

And while breakups aren't usually a laughing matter, there's still something hilarious about watching him get his heart ripped out in Gnarls Barkley's latest video, "Who's Gonna Save My Soul." The rolling peas -- and the fact that the heart totally looks like the Twizzlers mouth -- only darken the black comedy. The whole thing brings new meaning to "I Will Possess Your Heart," and speaking of Death Cab for Cutie, Gnarls' attempt at a DIY heart transplant is far funnier than DC4C's attempt in "Title and Registration." (Watch it below.)

Lil Wayne stopped the show a few weeks back, Rihanna and Maroon 5 killed it on episode 3, and after watching Katy Perry rehearse for her FN performance tonight, it's looking like she's gonna take show-stealing to felonious new levels. Not that we play faves -- we love all of our FNMTV extra-special guests equally. That'd be like loving one Jonas Brother more than another. It's simply not done. (And speaking of the Jonas Brothers, um, they're gonna be on FNMTV next Friday, July 18, so remember that.)

Check out the all-star lineup for tonight's installment of FNMTV, tune in tonight -- that's Friday, July 11, at 8 p.m. ET/PT for those of you not keeping track — and check back soon for exclusive behind-the-scenes photos of a power-jacked LL Cool J, Daughtry (also jacked! dude looks like Vin Diesel, except not wack!) Katy Perry, She & Him (challenge: telling Katy and Zooey apart -- but one way to tell is by the ENORMOUS rock on Katy's left hand -- she may like kissing girls, but that ring came from a certain someone), the Game, and, of course, "your host," Pete Wentz.

Tonight's FNMTV video premieres:
Daughtry - "What About Now"
LL Cool J featuring the Dream- "Baby"
She & Him - "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?"

+ Apparently, not everyone enjoys getting clocked by Amy Winehouse. And her latest victim isn't pulling any punches in today's tabloids. "She was in front of me at the bar and suddenly turned and walloped me three times across the face. It really stung," says 29-year-old Wayne Lindsay of the slap-happy singer. Meanwhile, a "source" close to Winehouse counters: "She's not a shrinking violet and isn't afraid to stand up for herself." Well, obviously. (Mirror)

+ If you thought Usher was serious about his music, wait till you hear what he has to say about fatherhood. (Essence)

+ Maroon 5's frontman Adam Levine proves he's not exactly the outdoorsy type by suggestively gripping a garden hose. (Popwrap)

+ Without the thesaurus-wielding Tim Gunn on hand to guide her, rocker-turned-designer Avril Lavigne has trouble "making it work." (Idolator)

+ You may have already known that Taylor Hicks (a.k.a. the prematurely grey-haired American Idol winner) just landed a plum role in the Broadway production of Grease. But here's something you probably didn't know: Hicks says the inspiration behind his costume came from "doing séances to channel Elvis, [who] told me that I needed to wear a midnight-blue, rhinestone-studded suit." Okay then! (MTV)
