about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

+ Amy Winehouse's soon-to-be ex-husband wants $1.5 million for his troubles, or else he's threatening to write a tell-all book about their relationship. Um, he can write? Also, wow, didn't see this coming. But I'd have NEVER GUESSED Britney and Kevin weren't going to make it either, so I should probably give up my side job as a fortune teller. (AM NY)

+ Rufus Wainwright compares Amy Winehouse (who's still in the hospital for a "bad reaction to drugs") to the late Judy Garland: "I mean, there’s so many correlations. They both have such an amazing voice and an amazing drug problem." (Rolling Stone)

+ Lynn Spears to Britney Spears: my bad. (MTV News)

+ Reasons why you probably shouldn't expect a Lily Allen-Katy Perry collaboration in the future: "When I met her I was a bit frosty with her because someone asked her to describe herself. She's like, 'Aha, I'm like a fatter version of Amy Winehouse and a skinner version of Lily Allen!'. It's like, you're not English and you don't write your own songs, shut up!" -- Lily Allen on Katy Perry. (Contact Music)

+ Reasons to have a baby: look at Ashlee Simpson-Wentz! (Popsugar)

+ Akon's not sorry for the rapper-singer trend. But he should be. (MTV News)

+ Mariah Carey's potential pregnancy? Coyly, vaguely, deflect, deflect deflect. (Socialitelife)

+ Molly Sims jumped at the chance to help SNL's Andy Samberg cream his jeans. (E! Online)

+ Return those presents you bought, because Christmas is officially canceled. Thanks, Twisted Sister. (Best Week Ever)

+ Courtney Love's daughter Frances Bean is interning at Rolling Stone magazine! And, according to one source, she "doesn't get coffee for anyone...calls in sick all the time and wears funny outfits." In other words? She's basically just like any other unpaid intern. Or, you know, her mom. (NY Post)

+ As the guys from Slipknot demonstrate, sometimes it's better not to see what's under the mask. (MTV)

+ Apparently, Nas isn't exactly a fan of Geraldo. At this year's Rock The Bells festival, the rapper called out Fox News, warning fans "'Watch what you watchin’, Fox keeps feeding us toxins...But watch what you say — Big Brother is watchin.'" Oh, and the name of the track? "Sly Fox." (Rolling Stone)

+ Finally, a court of law is willing to admit that Janet Jackson's split-second of partial nudity was blown WAY out of proportion. (Billboard)

+ Apparently, not everyone's thrilled to see that Jessica Simpson's gone country. (Popsugar)

+ Meanwhile, Janet's main squeeze Jermaine Dupri, refuses to battle his nemesis DJ Greg Street in a war of the turntables. Oh, but for the record, if they did battle, Dupri says, "I DJ for real. He would lose." (MTV)

+ Rufus Wainwright overshares about his awkward adolescent phase, saying "I looked like a gecko when I was young. Veins sticking out and all that." Fortunately, he's totally transitioned! Or, as he puts it, "Haven't I turned into such a fabulous man?" (This Is Nottingham)

You're not the only one with the chorus of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" stuck in your head on repeat -- it's even lodged in Michelle Williams' pretty little head too. Find out what else she's listening to this summer, besides Usher's "Love In This Club" ode to PDA, Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's "No Air," and Rufus Wainwright (a Buzzworthy favorite!)... again, more "unexpectedness" from Michelle Williams, who is a human iPod Shuffle.

+ Plus, watch Michelle reveal the naughty bits you won't see in her "We Break the Dawn" video, and check out Katy Perry backstage at TRL and on FNMTV (in a panda dress, no less!)

As much as we love musicians-turned-designers like Gwen Stefani and Fergie, we love pop fashion even more when musicians design for a good cause, like "Fashion Against AIDS," a just-announced collaboration between H&M and Designers Against AIDS, featuring pieces designed exclusively for the project by Rihanna, Good Charlotte and Timbaland, in addition to Scissor Sisters, Ziggy Marley, My Chemical Romance, Tiga, Rufus Wainwright and fashion designers Henrik Vibskov and Katharine Hamnett.

Though they’re only 27, twin sisters Tegan and Sara have been making music and exploring indie-folk, indie-rock and everything in between for nearly a decade. And while they’ve never had a chart-topping smash in the U.S. or won a Grammy, the Canadian siblings sold out American venues on their ongoing world tour so quickly that they had to squeeze in extra dates.

Their harmony-laced, acoustic-guitar-driven catalog has been acclaimed by the likes of Neil Young (yes that Neil Young) — who signed them to his Vapor Records label — as well as Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright and Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla, who produced their fifth and most recent studio album, The Con, which saw the sisters move into more mature songwriting territory, testing New Wave waters with esteemed Weezer bassist Matt Sharp and Hunter Burgan of AFI.

But their predisposition to prolific songwriting, while impressive, is hardly even half of the allure. Aside from pitch-perfect harmonies and their intense, honest lyrics, what also really stands out about Tegan and Sara Quin is their keep-it-real appeal. Their down-to-earth, approachable nature lends itself to their immediate fan connection. For The Con, the duo released an entire making-of DVD, giving fans an up-close, in-their-own-words look at the process of writing and record the album. There are even entire websites devoted to their celebrated stage banter.

And speaking of celebrating, we’re doing just that all week. You can catch Tegan and Sara on MTV all week! Watch all of their on-air clips of footage they shot in Toronto exclusively for their Artist Of The Week run (the photos above were taken on the set) -- including their lawn chair acoustic sessions and driving lessons -- plus concert clips and more.

Check out their version of "Back In Your Head" now and tell us why you love the sisters Quin.
