about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

Move over, Tom Kaulitz. Iconic Guns 'N Roses guitarist, MTV pioneer, and '80s rock time capsule -- seriously, dude does NOT age -- Slash, of Velvet Revolver of late, will be presenting at the 2008 VMAs on Sunday, September 7th!

WTF? Slash, Tokio Hotel, Ciara, Jonas Brothers, The Hills cast, Miley Cyrus and Michael Phelps, and the cast of High School Musical 3 all in one night? Best. Sunday. Evar.

Check out a few of my favorite excerpts from Slash's autobiography and two awesome VMA archival shots -- Slash and Michael Jackson performing together at the 1995 VMAs, and Slash accepting the 1988 (!!!) VMA for Best New Artist with his "date," porn star Traci Lords.

And below that, watch Slash in his full-on glory in a live performance of "Sweet Child O' Mine" from way back in 1991.

slash1.jpgIf you're like us, you ran right out and snatched up a copy of Slash's autobiography -- appropriately titled just Slash … because, really, what more does the former Guns N' Roses/current Velvet Revolver guitarist need to say to make you want to buy his book?

In it, he talks about snakes, getting drunk and going to the gym and, well, what life was like when he was using drugs. And, as if that's not enough insight into what's going on in his head, our Headbangers Blog has a 30-minute podcast interview with the rock icon, who talks about why and how he wrote the book and what the deal is with his upcoming solo album. Oh yeah, and he also talks about drugs. Check out the podcast here.

Former Guns N' Roses guitarist (um, just in case you need a qualifier) Slash has taken time out from his velvet revolving duties and from probably not washing his hair to write an autobiography. We already told you we're suckers for trashy literature by celebs who, by all accounts and purposes, shouldn't have made it to see the '90s but somehow avoided the rock reaper's scythe, so, of course, we fully can't wait to read the chronicles of Slash's enormous appetite for destruction. Thankfully we don't have to wait until the book's October 30th release date because the Guardian Unlimited published a sizable excerpt that details some of the lowest (and basically most awesome) moments Slash spent between finishing the "Appetite For Destruction" tour and beginning work on the G N' R Lies album.

In Slash's autobiography, aptly entitled Slash, the revered rock guitarist reveals the behavior and habits that basically made him a walking (though barely) prototype of a hard-living, about-to-crash-and-burn '80s rocker just gunning for a Behind the Music special. Read more...
