Let's get right down to it: The FNMTV holiday extravaganza is the music world equivalent of a two-hour special where the cast of Gossip Girl flies to Australia with the cast of Twilight only to crash halfway on Lost. It's like if George Clooney came back to ER and he was engaged to Brad Pitt AND Angelina. And they adopted more kids. Last but not least, it's like Michael Jackson's Off The Wall, in the sense that it's off the wall.

Host/ new dad Pete Wentz does double-duty tonight, introducing blockbuster video premieres AND performing with Fall Out Boy. THAT FALL OUT BOY. And when he's not talking, Travis McCoy will be filling the gaps with a little ee-err ee-err as the house DJ!

Finally, if you don't mind having your head explode, try thinking about the fact that we also have brand-new videos from Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. AND even her brother Trace AND Metro Station! Pop.

Tonight's FNMTV Video Premieres:
Britney (kind of a big deal) Spears - "Circus"
Miley (maybe you've heard of her?) Cyrus - "Fly On The Wall"
The Game featuring Ne-Yo - "Camera Phone"
Metro Station - "Seventeen Forever"
Secondhand Serenade - "Your Call"

DO NOT NOT WATCH FNMTV. THIS IS THE EPISODE OF THE CENTURY (until the next one...).

Tonight. 8pm ET. MTV. Go.

Huge announcement: Big brother Pete Wentz and FNMTV are coming home for the holidays and mom is FREAKING out. As you can probably guess, the video premiere extravaganza happening December 5 is getting kicked into major overdrive to make it worthy of the most wonderful time of the year. Not only is Fall Out Boy gonna perform (*jaws drop*), but Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes has signed on to spin records between super exclusive premieres of Miley Cyrus’s “Fly On The Wall,” Metro Station’s “Seventeen Forever,” The Game’s “Camera Phone” and our old buddy Secondhand Serenade’s “Your Call.”

As you probably remember, California-native Secondhand Serenade (aka John Vesely aka Blake Lewis doppelganger) did a stint as a guest blogger a few months back, where he talked us through the creation of his latest album, A Twist In My Story. Well we got along so well – exchanged phone numbers and everything – that John sent us a sneak peek of his ‘FNMTV’-bound video, “Your Call,” and it is INSANE in the best way. Vesely’s sings his face off on a fantasy hillside dotted with tattoo-faced angels, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg! He was born to tell you he loves you. It's probably a good idea to let him.

Watch the sneak peak below, brace yourself for a seismic FNMTV event and, if you have any sense, bookmark this entry. Any minute now you’re gonna find yourself in a turkey coma with a hunk of November still ahead of you. Secondhand Serenade is just the thing to push you through until FNMTV returns with a vengeance, this December 5!

NEWS FLASH! Our esteemed artist of the week is a confirmed performer for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7 in Hollywood! Don't miss it! Now, back to our regularly scheduled post ...

If there was the slightest possibility that you hadn't already heard of Kid Rock, it would make sense to go on and on about the 23 million+ albums he's sold ... About how he's filled in for frontmen in bands as diverse as Metallica, Phish and Lynyrd Skynyrd ... About how he launched the career of Uncle Kracker one day and immortalized Aerosmith's with a performance of "Sweet Emotion" at the Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame another ... But Kid Rock pretty much took care of that whole issue of "the public eye" when he married Pamela Anderson, showed up in David Spade's Joe Dirt and released an album called Rock N Roll Jesus, now didn't he? Let's just say that the guy lives up to the title of his 2001 release, Cocky.

And why shouldn't he? After all, how many careers have you heard of that start in a Romeo, Michigan, shopping mall at age 11 (back when Kid was known as Robert James Ritchie) and end at the top of the world (not to mention the pop charts)? Not that many, right? No. And how many artists have you seen transition so smoothly between greasy trailer kid to rap-metal breakout, between country crossover phenomenon and classic rock revivalist, between "Early Morning Stoned Pimp" and "Rock N Roll Jesus?" Again, not a single one.

Take a step back and really look at Kid Rock. He's collaborated with Lil Jon, The Allman Brothers, Run DMC and Sheryl Crow. He's appeared on the Vans Warped Tour, on the cover of Rolling Stone (twice!), in court for punching a strip club DJ and on Larry King Live. See? Kid Rock has done absolutely EVERYTHING, and he's just getting started.

With all that under his belt, can you even imagine what this cocky rock'n'roll Jesus has in store for MTV.com's Artist Of The Week? You know, it's hard not to brag, but for once, let's just leave this one up in the air ... Because no matter how well prepared you are when the exclusive Kid Rock AOTW videos hit the net, you are gonna go absolutely bawitdaba bonkers! BRACE YOURSELVES! HERE COMES THE ROCK!

Check out this photo flipbook and get psyched for a week with Kid Rock!

MTV Staff writer Daniel Arnold steps in with a love song to his new favorite band, Fleet Foxes, and why you need to listen to their sun-soaked harmonies before your entire life goes to shambles:

Science makes miracles real hard to come by these days, but we got one for you here today and it's called Fleet Foxes. Doubt all you want, but when you hear the five-part harmony spill out of these scraggly hippies' lips, like flowers down a hill, you're liable to just about fall on the floor crying for summer never to end.

A five-piece out of Seattle, the recent Sub Pop Records signees sing sweeter than an army of Mariah Carey clones. They've got kind of a '60s style, like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Beach Boys or the Zombies, but they manage to freshen up that old sound with heartbreaking acoustics. If you like My Morning Jacket, Band Of Horses, Iron & Wine or any old folk music, you'll lose your mind for Fleet Foxes. Honestly, you've never heard such harmonies. Not even that epic Boyz II Men "Motownphilly" a cappella breakdown comes close.

+ Download "White Winter Hymnal" for free from Sub Pop, and listen to more Fleet Foxes on their MySpace page.

gossip

In a celebrity-obsessed age of product placement and plastic pop stars, Gossip are arguably the realest band in rock 'n roll. Led by the Arkansas-born Beth Ditto, an often naked, unapologetically overweight outspoken feminist named NME's coolest person in rock, Gossip have been breaking boundaries with their fiery soul-punk since 1999. Not because they're bleeding heart activists (although they do wear their politics on their sleeves) or out to shock people, but because they just are who they are -- not out to please anybody or make a million fans -- totally real. As guitarist Brace Paine, original drummer Kathy Mendonca (now replaced by Hannah Blilie) and Beth put it, way back in the beginning, "We started a band 'cause we were bored. Our mission is to make you dance, and if you're not gonna dance, just stay at home and listen to the oldies station."

Let's get back to Beth a minute because she deserves way more than one run-on sentence. One of the music world's fiercest individuals, the powerhouse has appeared nude on several magazine covers under unflaggingly punk circumstances. In interviews she has admitted everything from a distaste for deodorant to having eaten squirrels (although she later claimed it was her cousin who ate the critters). But she's not all outrage all the time. What her philosophy really comes down to may have been revealed in her regular Guardian column, "What Would Beth Ditto Do," where she said, "Women aren't cats, we aren't pets, we are just people trying to cross the freaking street to get an ice-cream."

Although obviously not your average spotlight stealers, Gossip have more than earned their infamy. Formed in Arkansas back in '99, they relocated to Olympia, Washington where they signed with Calvin Johnson's legendary indie label, K Records. Their big break came six years later by way of third full-length, Standing In The Way Of Control. The title track, an all-out anthem, quickly hit #1 on the UK charts and became the unofficial theme song of British teen melodrama, Skins. This was a particularly major breakthrough because the song was written as an angry response to the US government's refusal to allow gays the right to marry. Again, not your average spotlight stealers.

Since then the band has been signed to a division of Sony Records where they're in the midst of work on a major label debut. They also closed the Glastonbury Festival and spent last summer touring North America as part of the True Colors Tour 2007, a star-studded event thrown to raise money for the Human Rights Campaign. For that reason and so many more, the fearless trailblazers are taking over MTV for the week. Watch as they go back to high school to play a totally punk prom and talk some frank trash about growing up weird. Warm up with the samples below and catch the full show here.
