Is 2 Chainz one of THE hottest rappers in the game right now? TRU.

The road to rap stardom used to be long -- real long. Rappers could spend years hustling on small stages before finally getting a chance to shine, and if by some chance one DID experience their big break, sometimes the highest they'd get on the industry ladder would be with a single guest verse on a new hot song. So it’s interesting that in this era of the overnight sensation machine, that the old-fashioned way to stardom has actually paid off for rapper 2 Chainz and made him the bona fide hip-hop star he is today.

Green Day rehearse for the 2012 MTV VMAs on the same stage they hope One Direction won't fall off of.

Green Day's performance at the 2012 MTV VMAs will be their fifth time rocking the VMA stage. (Only Madonna's got more VMA performances under her Boy Toy belt at seven.) And as VMA veterans -- they've won a total of 11 VMAs, in case you needed reminding -- and the show's elder statesmen (they lost their VMA virginity back in 1994), they can be relied upon to issue cautionary tales and offer words of wisdom where VMA performances are concerned.

And speaking of the VMA stage, following their VMA rehearsal tonight, they issued an official VMA warning (ehh... get it? "Warning"?) for One Direction, with whom they share performing duties at this year's show, and who'll be stepping out onto the VMA stage for their very first time. And their advice -- is pretty simple: "Don't fall off the stage." It's simple advice, but really, some of the best advice is. (Really, who even knows what "a bird in the hand is better than one in the bushel" means or whatever?) So it bears repeating: One Direction, watch your step at the VMAs.

Watch Green Day share their advice for One Direction and place their bets on Best New Artist.

Kevin and Taylor, then known as Tevin, during happier days.

I feel bad for Kevin Hart. I really do. Sure, he's hilarious and talented, which is why he's hosting the 2012 MTV VMAs this Thursday, and it's the opportunity of a lifetime, and his stock's about to go through the roof, and he may even meet One Direction. (They don't pay you in money for hosting the VMAs. They just let you meet One Direction. Same thing, really.) But sadly, looming behind all of this success like a storm cloud is his public shaming by Taylor Swift in the face of their headline-making breakup. It was like "Tom and Katie WHO? WHO CARES when Kevin and Taylor aren't together anymore?" And just, like, watching her deny their love and then turning around and writing "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" -- the biggest hit of her life? Ice cold. No one should have their private business turned public like that, you know? But Kevin Hart is not taking this sitting down. I caught up with him during a break in his busy VMA rehearsal schedule (he's moving on, staying busy, which is good), where he told me the real reason they didn’t work out.

"Me and Taylor definitely were dating, and I think she just kinda threw me for a whirlwind when she denied the whole thing," he confirmed. "I love hard. Taylor was an example of when loving hard goes wrong." There you have it: Good love gone bad. Sounds like they're never ever getting back together, even if they do run into each other when Taylor performs at the VMAs. Stay strong, Kevin. We still need you to host the VMAs on Thursday!

+ Watch Kevin Hart discuss his breakup with Taylor Swift.

Don't miss the 2012 MTV VMAs live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

VMA performer and No. 1 album holder 2 Chainz gets in touch with his feelings in pre-VMA therapy.

2 Chainz has had more to deal with in the past six months than most artists have to manage in their entire career. He jumped on Kanye's "Mercy," which landed him in Qatar, where he shot the video in a palace tricked out with its own Versace room. (Totally standard.) He trumped that massive feature spot with his own single, "No Lie," which went to No. 1, and bumped "Mercy" out of the top spot. He gave Nicki Minaj a boost -- and some strippers his co-sign -- on "Beez In The Trap" before reflexively solidifying his own commitment to stripping with his own "I Love Dem Strippers" featuring Nicki. (They both REALLY love strippers, so you know.) He threw the most bats*** birthday party ever (who else throws a birthday party where Kanye West shows up in a tank top and strippers with vacant stares giving Carlton Banks look-alikes lap dances as party favors?) He dropped his Based On A T.R.U. Story major label debut which debuted at No. 1.

Oh, and he's going to be performing at the 2012 MTV VMAs, where he could walk away with two Moonmen. So you can't blame the dude for wanting to stretch out on a couch and get a few things off his chest. And you can't blame him for wanting to process all of these new experiences. Which is exactly what he did in his dressing room yesterday after his VMA rehearsal.

MGK talks remembers his first (and worst!) jobs in this week's POSTED.

MGK has been keeping it real as MTV's POSTED artist for August (it doesn't get more real than living in your managers basement, guys)! Aside from scoring some extra time to admire his many tattoos, we also get to learn all about the EST 4 Life rapper through exclusive interviews, videos and photos all month long at POSTED.MTV.com.

These days, MGK rubs elbows with some major bosses in the game (like Diddy, Waka Flocka Flame, Ester Dean), but rapping wasn't always been the way he paid the bills! This week, we learn about a couple of  MGK's least favorite jobs on his resume before getting signed to Bad Boy Records.

MGK talks his anthems for underdogs and working with Ester Dean in this week's POSTED.

MGK's DOMINATING! Not only is the Cleveland rapper MTV's PUSH Artist of the Week, he's also MTV's POSTED artist for August, so you can also catch exclusive interviews and videos over at POSTED.MTV.com all month long. Now hit play on the rapper's recently released EST 4 Life mixtape, and let's get this party started.

You may remember that even with MGK's budding fame and hanging with big-wigs like Diddy and Waka Flocka Flame, the rapper still lives in his manager's basement! But this week, we learn that underground living pays off as he admits that his "realness" in his songs is devoted to the underdog (having a killer collabo partner like Ester Dean doesn't hurt). Go ahead and call him an "Invincible" hero.

Watch MGK chat writing anthems for the underdog and his collabo with Ester Dean after the jump.

Learn more about the Diddy-signed Cleveland rapper, MGK.

MGK's had quite a year since signing to Bad Boy Records last summer. He's had several legit hits and one of the biggest remixes of the year with his "Wild Boy (Remix)," which clocks in at seven rappers strong, including Mystikal, and Jackass's Steve-O (who's just on the intro, and not technically rapping, in case you were curious/worried). And if MGK's boss, Diddy, has been looking for his own answer to the great white hope, Eminem, then he's finally found it.

The Cleveland, Ohio emcee reps his hometown hard, and his city seems to answer with unconditional support for the 22-year-old. But so does New York: He's had two successful runs at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and he's made several appearances on BET. But MGK's rapid-fire delivery and unchained energy levels tend to hush any haters, if not change their minds completely. There's something uncanny and irresistible about being from the Midwest and being able to speed rap with technical precision. MGK fits in well with hometown heroes Bone Thugs, as well as Tech N9ne (Kansas) and Twista (Chicago) --  both of whom happen to be featured on his upcoming debut album, Lace Up.

MGK talks about living in a basement and his favorite "Invincible" memory in this week's POSTED.

We may have to patiently wait until MGK's EST 4 Life mixtape drops (Aug. 14!) and his Lace Up album release (Oct. 9!), but take comfort in knowing that the Ohio-grown rapper is the MTV POSTED artist for August! All month long, we follow the Breaking Woodie winner through exclusive interviews, videos and photos over at POSTED.MTV.com.

Last week, MGK chatted about what it was like to work with legendary rappers Diddy and Waka Flocka Flame, but this time around, we learn that just 'cause you're brushing shoulders with ballers doesn't mean you live like one -- MGK still lives in his manager's mom's basement. And that's how you work from the bottom up, guys.

Pink is set perform live at the 2012 MTV VMAs, sore nipples and all.

The 2012 VMAs are less than a month away, and we're adding to our star-studded roster of performances and appearances! We've already revealed Kevin Hart as this year's host, and now, we're thrilled to announce that one of our all-time favorite singers will perform live -- Pink! The "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" singer, whose new album, The Truth About Love, drops Sept. 18, will debut a brand-new song at her VMA performance.

Pink's got five VMA wins and three unforgettable VMA performances under her belt. And recently, she took a break from being the best mom in life to chat candidly with us about her past VMA performances and moments -- and she was brutally honest -- which is yet another reason why she remains one of our favorite singers (and all-around PWRWBBFFW: Person We Really Wanna Be BFFs With).

Looking back at her 2002 VMA performance, Pink reveals: "I remember "Just Like A Pill." I was in very, very, very tight leather. I was afraid they were going to shoot me from behind because in my mind I'm a beached whale. And I had full body painted tattoos all over myself which was so much fun. And I had black hair and was really young and really dumb and really cute." Beached whale? Puhhhhlleeaaase. More like BEST PERSON EVER.

Watch Pink discuss her favorite VMA performances and moments after the jump!
