about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

For those of you who missed last night's Los Premios awards, here's your 30-second recap: Paramore rocked, Katy Perry rolled, and Tokio Hotel took home not one but FOUR tongue-shaped trophies (for "Best Fan Club," "Best Song of the Year," "Best Ringtone," and "Best International New Artist.") And now, a few visual aids for your voyeuristic viewing pleasure!

First up: Here's Paramore's Hayley Williams and the lovely -- and still icing-free! -- Katy Perry. (More on that later, though...)

And here's Shot at Love star Tila Tequila (and Dancing with the Stars has-been Kim Kardashian) rounding out the reality quotient. Flavor Flav was also in attendance, FYI, but since giant clock bling gives us the heebie jeebies, you'll have to check out the red carpet flipbook to peep his gear.

Plus, how could our photo montage be complete with a shot of the evening's big winners? Give it up for Tokio Hotel and admire their matching black-and-white attire. Coordinating your outfit ahead of time...it's not just for 13 year-old girls anymore!

Want more? Head over to MTVTr3s for a complete list of the winners, plus check out these live performances and these onstage and red carpet photo highlights for a behind-the-scenes look at what went down.

And speaking of what went down, remember that Katy Perry story we hinted at earlier? Well, check out this vid and watch what happens when she tries to have her cake and fall in it, too. Although, truth be told, falling's the easy part. It's the getting-back-up-again-without-slip-sliding-around-in-a-sea-of-icing that appears to present a problem...

Wait! Before you check out all the amahzing Los Premios coverage on Blogamole, you'll wanna see Paramore's super-charged live performance of "That's What You Get." (We heart you, Hayley!!!)

The MTV mail room runneth overunneth with celebrity RSVPs for 2008 VMAs. First up, here's a quick look at your favorite MTV stars who've confirmed.

The Hills Cast: With all that feuding, we can't say for 100% suresies which Hills cast members will show, so here's our dream scenario: Lauren rocks the carpet in a dress of her own design, flanked by roomies/rivals Lo and Audrina and Heidi too. Meanwhile, Speidi shows up in full '80s gear (a la Heidi's new "Overdosin'" vid) and Brody Jenner swings by flaunting his date/domestic life partner, Frankie Delgado.

Tila Tequila: This two-time Shot at Love alum has over 1 million virtual pals, plus a bevvy of flesh-and-blood admirers who will do just about anything -- chug hot dog milkshakes, get inked and dry-hump condom balloons -- for her attention. With luck, she'll stroll down the red carpet with her new girlfriend -- rumored Lindsay Lohan castoff, Courtenay Semel.

Fonzworth Bentley: He's gone from Diddy's official umbrella-holder to the reigning master of etiquette, all in the span of a single show. And in addition to oozing elegance, the From G's to Gents show always dresses for the occasion. Should be interesting to see whether he makes the VMA's Best-Dressed list this year.

Ryan Sheckler: Remember that skater boy Avril Lavigne wrote that eponymous song about? Well, if he looked anything like the Life of Ryan star, we're betting no girl in the world would have let him slip through her fingers. Ryan, if you still need a last-minute date, we're available! Kidding! (Not really...)

Vanessa & Angela Simmons: No offense to the Rev, but we've always found this sassy sister act to be the best part of Run's House. Let's hope these Pastry sneaker queens bring their running commentary to the awards show...but leave their running shoes at home. Meanwhile, wonder if there will be any weirdness if Angela "runs" into her ex, Bow Wow?

Rob Dyrdek: Rob without Big is like peanut butter without the jelly or Paris Hilton without a $5,000 handbag. In other words, awesome, but not living up to its full amazingness. We love you, Rob, but here's to hoping the big guy finds his way to L.A. for the big event.

Shwayze and Cisco: Oh, Buzzin' boys, have we told you lately that we love you? (You like Corona and lime? OMG! WE! DO! TOO!) And, like guitar hero Dave Navarro before us, congrats to you for spending $1000 in one night just to impress some chick at the Roosevelt Hotel. Hey, if that's not dedication, we don't know what is.

Laurie Ann Gibson: Hey, remember Laurie Ann? She's the loudmouthed choreographer who got hired, then fired, then re-hired by Diddy on Making the Band! And she's back again this season, to try and whip Day 26 into shape. Which means, spending all day, every day, getting up close and personal with the hunky/talented R&B boys. We're thinking this is one job she's gonna wanna hang onto.

Tara Conner: We here at Buzzworthy are firm believers in second chances. Which was why we loved seeing the controversial Miss USA winner living it up with Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe on Pageant Place. Because if Mean Girls has taught us anything, it's that pretty girls always get along with other pretty girls. Wait a sec, those girls hated each other by the end. And one of them got hit by a bus! Tara, get out of there IMMEDIATELY!

Real World: Hollywood Cast: We haven't heard much from the RW: Hollywood-ers since the official cast reunion earlier this summer. So we're thrilled that Nick, Brittini, Will, and Joey will be on hand next weekend. (Greg, surprisingly, will not). Nick, Will, we'll always remember our time together at Ruby Foo's. If you're ever back in NYC, call us up -- we'll ring Applebee's and snag a reservation.

Singer-songwriter Matt White's voice is so damn angelic that he could easily double as God's personal troubadour. The 28-year-old classically trained musician sounds like a cross between two of his inspirations: John Mayer -- to whom comparisons are also unavoidable -- and Jeff Buckley. And Matt, who grew up in a family of musicians in north New Jersey, actually saw the late artist perform live back in the day.

A guy who writes loves songs, sings like a meadowlark and has seen Jeff Buckley in concert? Paint us intrigued. And then it turns out he also looks like James Dean reincarnated.

Yet even raw talent and -- let's be real here, total hotness -- don't usually score one a record deal overnight. Not unlike Jeff Buckley himself, Matt did major time on the small-club circuit in New York City (in some of the same clubs Buckley toiled in), sometimes busking for bills in Washington Square Park. And he also logged serious hours online, garnering a rapt and eager fan base (both predominantly and unsurprisingly female) on MySpace.

Eventually a winning combination of tenacity, good fortune, and the kind of writing chops that produce pitch-perfect alt-pop songs -- the melodic, cinematic, heartfelt and honest types -- and attract music supervisors for shows like One Tree Hill and The Hills (perhaps you've heard of this?) paid off. After landing a spot on Geffen's roster, earning a place Rolling Stone's "10 Artists to Watch" list, scoring a single on the Shrek the Third soundtrack, and logging well over 100 live shows in 2006 alone, Matt upgraded from playing subway stations to playing gigs for fans whose intended destinations are the bigger clubs he's now headlining -- not just the next stop on the A train.

We'll admit it: We slept all day yesterday. Didn't take a shower until dinner, and for that, we ate some toast before going back to bed, where we found we'd been using Perez Hilton's velvet jacket as a pillow. Hey, if you spent your New Year's Eve drinking in Tila Tequila's New Year's Eve Masquerade 2008, you'd have done the same.

And perhaps you did. Maybe you celebrated in your own way and it put you in bed sometime around sunrise and you didn't bother to do anything but watch bowl games during the part of the day you managed to be conscious. We understand.

But today we're back in action and trying to reconstruct all of the details. Luckily, our party was recorded and is available for viewing on demand anytime, and we're really glad for that, cuz a lot of it is really fuzzy in our collective brain. Turns out that Paramore was as great as we remembered they were. And Fabolous was fabulous. Plus, Kid Rock brought down the house, the buzz on Flo Rida is worth it, Good Charlotte still has it, Boys Like Girls are a helluva lot of fun and The Bravery rock.

You can check out all kids of video and photo highlights of Tila's Times Square MTV throwdown over on MTV.com. And below you can watch Paramore's performance of "Crush Crush Crush."

Meanwhile, we'll be napping for a good part of today. Seems that we're not quite fully recovered -- and we can't remember what happened with us and Perez. Maybe it's better that stays lost in the night.
