Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner probably aren't ever getting back together, but they seem cool with it.

Guess we can rule out Taylor Lautner as the inspiration behind Taylor Swift's record-breaking new single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"! As you might recall, the two Taylors dated a few years back, and as everybody knows (ahem, John Mayer), Taylor has a penchant for writing songs about her exes. Now that a few years have passed, it looks like Taylor and Taylor are in the chill zone, because HELLO! This picture of Taylor Swift hugging Taylor Lautner is EVERYTHING!

On a separate note, we've always wondered what it would be like to absolutely slay a live performance in front of your ex, which, incidentally, is exactly what Taylor Swift did tonight. Taylor S closed out the 2012 MTV VMAs with a performance of her her breakup anthem "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and we're basically positive pretty sure that Taylor must have felt a little weird watching his ex-GF essentially take over the entire world. That, and he was probably also thanking THE GOOD LORD ABOVE that Taylor's new song wasn't about him. Or so we think...

2012 MTV VMA host Kevin Hart dives face first into the crowd!

We knew the 2012 MTV VMAs were gonna be insane, but we had no idea that the level of badass-ery would surpass even our wildest dreams! Meaning Taylor Swift crowd-surfed! Yes, you heard me right. Taylor Swift, the she of sweetness and sundresses, Taylor who plays dress-up AND fetch with her cat, bodysurfed over a crowd of completely SHOCKED VMA audience members! And though Taylor Swift's jump may have been the most surprising, she wasn't the only one to fling her body across a sea of strangers. In fact, we'd venture to say that crowd surfing was totally, like, a "thing" at the VMAs.

As VMA host, we suppose it was Kevin Hart's civic duty to jump-start the crowd-surfing train, but we had zero clue so many other famous peeps would go totally HAM on the VMA audience. Lil Wayne had his crowd-surfing moment via a totally baller sideways jump into the crowd, while Taylor Swift opted for a more demure, backstroke position. But again, we repeat: TAYLOR SWIFT crowd surfed! In case you passed out when I mentioned it the first time.

Taylor Swift does the backstroke in a sea of VMA audience members.

Lil' Wayne stage dives butt-first. But obviously though, right?

One more pic of Kevin Hart crowd surfing. Just for fun!

Which was your favorite 2012 MTV VMA performance?

Picking your favorite 2012 MTV VMA performance is kind of like picking your favorite child. Tough, but you know that every parent secretly does it anyway, so why not just quietly embrace it? In case you're still in a daze from all the sick performances that went down tonight, here's a quick recap: Decked out in a head-to-toe Egyptian ensemble (obvs), Rihanna opened the show by performing  "Cockiness" and "We Found Love" with an assist from A$AP Rocky. The girl power moment continued when Pink took the stage, and amid a sea of Busby Berkeley-esque (or Twizzler-like, depending on your frame of reference) dancing red lips, slayed her performance of "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)." And let us not forget the 10-second snippet of "Get The Party Started," which obviously earns her an extra 10,000 bonus points. IMHO.

Things slowed down a bit when Frank Ocean hit the stage to deliver his introspective, unparalleled performance of "Thinkin Bout You," followed by the piercing screams of 100,000 (or so) ecstatic girls during One Direction's "One Thing" performance.

Hip-hop took center stage again when Lil Wayne bro'd out with 2 Chainz, during their performance of "Yuck" and "No Worries." VMA veterans Green Day hit the stage for the night's rock moment when a very healthy looking Billie Joe Armstrong and the band got down with the fans as they delivered a hardcore rendition of "Let Yourself Go."

Alicia Keys was a "Girl On Fire" during her piano-driven performance of her new single (with a surprise assist from Nicki Minaj, and of course, how could we forget our favorite country-cutie turned crowd-surfing badass, Taylor Swift, who closed out the show with her smash "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

So, which was your fave? Vote below, and relive all of the 2012 MTV VMA performances.

Directioners, JUST ACCEPT that this happened. And be happy for them.

DO NOT hate Katy Perry because she is beautiful. CELEBRATE Katy Perry because this woman is an absolute and utter genius. She's a thought leader who proved that, while under pressure, she's capable of making the BEST decisions. Like the decision to KISS NIALL AND HARRY of One Direction when presenting them with their Best Pop Video Moonman -- their first of three(!) Moonmen at the 2012 MTV VMAs.

Katy's a known One Direction fan -- she even wept dreamily into Rihanna's shoulder as they performed "One Thing" that night. And could you blame her for being overcome by their British perfection? (She does have a thing for Brits.) And, Directioners, I know you feel an intense ownership of One Direction, don't blame Harry and Niall for kissing Katy. Because LOOK AT KATY PERRY. Show me a person who'd pass up the opportunity to kiss her, and I'll show you a true idiot. Everyone took one for the team here, and they are to be commended for their valor... and their opportunism. Everyone won.

When Katy Perry offers you a Moonman, YOU TAKE THE MOONMAN.

We've just wrapped an incredible 2012 MTV VMAs, and in addition to a ton of killer performances, Katy and Rihanna's BFF-ness was on full display! Or in simpler terms, if the VMAs had an award for most adorable pop star BFF duo, Katy and Rihanna would be the obvious winners. Or let's call them Kihanna. Or Raty. Or Rihaty. You pick.

Green Day rehearse for the 2012 MTV VMAs on the same stage they hope One Direction won't fall off of.

Green Day's performance at the 2012 MTV VMAs will be their fifth time rocking the VMA stage. (Only Madonna's got more VMA performances under her Boy Toy belt at seven.) And as VMA veterans -- they've won a total of 11 VMAs, in case you needed reminding -- and the show's elder statesmen (they lost their VMA virginity back in 1994), they can be relied upon to issue cautionary tales and offer words of wisdom where VMA performances are concerned.

And speaking of the VMA stage, following their VMA rehearsal tonight, they issued an official VMA warning (ehh... get it? "Warning"?) for One Direction, with whom they share performing duties at this year's show, and who'll be stepping out onto the VMA stage for their very first time. And their advice -- is pretty simple: "Don't fall off the stage." It's simple advice, but really, some of the best advice is. (Really, who even knows what "a bird in the hand is better than one in the bushel" means or whatever?) So it bears repeating: One Direction, watch your step at the VMAs.

Watch Green Day share their advice for One Direction and place their bets on Best New Artist.
