Mayday Parade already went pop on Fearless Records' upcoming album, Pop Goes Punk 2 -- a collection of pop songs that normally might make you puke, made far more palatable by your favorite power-pop, punk, and emo bands. So will the next logical step in Mayday Parade's career involve a "Jamie All Over"/ "Hakuna Matata" mashup?
Watch Mayday Parade discuss a potential Magic Kingdom merger in this clip from MTV2's Rock The Deuce -- the Pop Goes Punk 2-themed episode airs this Saturday, March 7 at 1am!
Plus, listen to every track of Pop Goes Punk 2, and watch A Static Lullaby's brand-new video, "Toxic" (Britney's "Toxic"), also featured on the album.
There are two types of punk and pop-punk fans -- those who'd rather be caught dead than caught listen to Britney Spears and/or Pussycat Dolls, and those who'd only listen to Britney Spears and/or Pussycat Dolls if and when covered by A Static Lullaby, August Burns Red (their cover of "Baby One More Time" sounds like angry indigestion) and Mayday Parade respectively. (There's also the third type -- the closeted pop fan who'll only listen to pop on someone else's iPod.)
Fearless Records isn't unleashing Pop Goes Punk 2 -- a tongue-in-cheek collection of punk-covered pop hits -- until March 10, but you can stream the entire album track right now on "The Leak."
Extra points go to There For Tomorrow for covering one of my favorite R&B joints -- "Ice Box" by Omarion (two great tastes that taste great together!) and to Bayside for putting what I'm almost positive will be a fresher coat of paint on Sean Kingston's cloying "Beautiful Girls."
+ Listen to Pop Goes Punk 2 now!
Do you remember when Britney first dropped "Toxic" on the world? Man. I swear a mushroom cloud went up from the MTV broadcast tower. A whole new set of adjectives had to be invented to describe its deadly energy and catchiness (not to mention Brit's complete reinvention of eye-popping sexiness in the video). And Britney, decked out in nothing but rhinestones, laid it all down without ever breaking a breathy whisper.
A Static Lullaby see things differently than Britney Spears did. But what do you expect from a pack of Orange County post-hardcore kids who've toured with The Used and Killswitch Engage? Whispers? Rhinestones? No.
In their explosive Pop Goes Punk 2 cover -- you can stream the entire album on "The Leak" tomorrow! -- they take all of that sexed-up potential energy and unleash it, fully-dressed with its septum pierced, in every stomping, screaming chorus. Pop goes punk as f*#$! Watch the world premiere of A Static Lullaby's "Toxic," RIGHT HERE.
