about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

We were raving about Thenewno2 back in January -- don't you love when people do that? Qualify their amount of into-a-band-ness by the length of time they've known about them? Great, because that's exactly what I'm doing right now -- and at first their mellow, lo-fi sound was part of the appeal.

Now, check out duo Dhani Harrison (yes, yes, the late George's son) and Oli Hecks' brand-new Adria Petty-directed video, "Yomp," off their new album, You Are Here. It hits a bit harder and more psychedelic and taps a White Stripes/ Queens Of The Stone Age vein while playing a moody and dark game of Dia de los Muertos dress-up.

Beyonce's brand-new video, "Sweet Dreams," off of I Am... Sasha Fierce, is less video, more post-modern art -- are those costumes not a reimagining of Fritz Lang's Metropolis? And do I even hear a subtle homage to the King of Pop in that sexy synth strut? ("Beat It," anyone?)

In "Sweet Dreams," you get a double dose of both good-girl Beyonce AND naughty-girl Sasha Fierce, and together, along with back-up dancers Ebony Williams and Ashley Everett, the combination more than makes up for the lackluster "Ego" video.

And while there are brief shades of Rihanna's performance in Kanye's "Paranoid" video, Beyonce -- all woman, all the time, makes that look like child's play.

Watch the Queen of R&B's latest video, "Sweet Dreams," directed by Adria Petty.

"Sweet Dreams" is one of the illest and most interesting, sickest and sexiest singles off of Beyonce's I Am… Sasha Fierce double disc, and from what I can tell after watching this 30-second Buzzworthy Blog preview of Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams" video, it looks like could be one of her hottest videos since "Suga Mama." And "Beautiful Liar." And "Crazy In Love."

Watch the 30-second "Sweet Dreams" clip, shot in Brooklyn and directed by Adria Petty (The Veronicas' "4Ever," Duffy's "Mercy," and Anjulie's "Boom"), and stay tuned for the full-length video, coming soon.
