When he beat out the precious David Archuleta to win the seventh season of "American Idol," David Cook momentarily proved that the show isn't necessarily fueled exclusively by puppy-dog-cute pop singers (although Cook isn't necessarily hard on the eyes, either). Unlike some other Idols, David has fared quite well as a rock singer -- his last album went platinum, and he's toured steadily -- even coming out of the same show that begat Sanjaya.
Now David Cook's returned with a second major-label album, This Loud Morning, featuring a new song called "The Last Goodbye." It's an instantly catchy, guitar-driven lamentation on love lost, with a drop of ornamental electro elements thrown in for good measure. And oh those "woah oh ohs." For the most part, though, the up-tempo slice of Americana brings to mind Angels & Airwaves and fellow "Idol" Kelly Clarkson.
We're used to "David Cook: Rock Star" sounding a bit more brooding with slower songs that fall into the soft rock arena, so it's pretty cool to hear something a little more fast-paced from the guy. It's definitely a contender for being one of the biggest rock songs of the summer, perfect for riding around with the top down.
What do you think of David's new song? Let us know in the comments!

Here's a theory about "American Idol" contestants and winners that I have. As they get farther and farther from their time on the show, the more they come into their own. No longer required to play by the show's rules, they truly find themselves as artists. And Adam Lambert has found himself in Wonderland.
The runner-up on the eighth season of "American Idol" brought his Glam Nation tour to New York City last night. As you can see by the preponderance of purple, black and velvet, Lambert is embracing his dark side. But it's the top hat that really pushes this new onstage look to a new level, casting the "If I Had You Singer" as a goth Mad Hatter.
Allison Iraheta, who came in fourth on Adam's season of "Idol" opened the show. The Glam Nation tour goes north to Connecticut now. Check here for dates.

With American Idol's 9th season debuting on January 12th, what better time than now to sit down with last season's fourth-place finisher, Allison Iraheta, and throw some MTV Buzzworthy Blog fan-submitted questions her way?
In this fan interview, Allison, who released Just Like You just last month, answered all sorts of queries.
Allison talks about which song on Just Like... she connects with most on a personal level ("No One Else") and how she feels about the album as a final product. She also gets tested on the topic of crazy fan encounters, touring plans, body image issues (she used to be insecure but then she realized how awesome she is...which she is), and her beloved leopard-print Snuggie.
Check out the entire Allison Iraheta Buzzworthy Blog fan interview, and re-fall-in-love with Allison's video for "Friday I'll Be Over You," below.

American Idol may have deemed Allison Iraheta 4th place when she competed against Kris Allen and Adam Lambert for the hearts and votes of the USA. But, to judge by these new, exclusive MTV photos, it certainly isn't getting her down.
Iraheta, who released her debut album Just Like You earlier this month, is looking pretty in pink in these shots. The pics give off the kind of light and dark (emotional) balance that characterizes Iraheta's less-aggro-Pink/less-intense-Pat-Benatar sound. The pink and purple flashes say, "Oh! Hai!" While the leather jacket says, "Don't mess with this girl."

On December 1, when Allison Iraheta's debut album, Just Like You, finally drops, the American Idol season eight fourth placer will finally have the chance to step out from underneath the Idol umbrella and into the pop-rock arena, with the benefit of Max Martin, Daughtry, and Kara Dioguardi, all of whom contributed to the album.
What does it feel like to stand at the brink of the next level of success? Ask Allison Iraheta yourself! She'll be here at MTV next week answering your MTV Buzzworthy Blog questions, so leave them in the comments of this post.

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert both grace the cover of the November 28th issue of Billboard magazine, and you're either an Adam Lambert fan, a Kris Allen fan, or both, so here's the Kris Allen/ Glambert cover for your enjoyment... for you entertainment, even! The Billboard issue takes a careful look at the upcoming album releases by Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allison Iraheta and the impact that Idol and their record sales could have on the music industry.

The "American Idols Live!" tour may be done and gone -- booooo -- but Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allison Iraheta are onto bigger and better things. Adam Lambert is putting the gloss on his debut album, featuring the Twitter- and Idolsphere-busting single, "Time For Miracles" from the upcoming disaster flick, 2012. Kris Allen is living life as a winner, about to release his debut, and covering his favorite shower song, "Hit Me… Baby One More Time." Meanwhile Allison Iraheta's "Friday I'll Be Over U" could catapult her into the ranks of Pink, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Fefe Dobson (and did I hear a little Berlin in there? "The Metro," anyone?)
But let's look back at a time when it was easier to get Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Allison Iraheta all together in the same room (without Simon Cowell, hm?)
Check out this Walmart Soundcheck interview with Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, and Kris Allen, to see the always amicable Idols, on the "American Idols Live!" tour, discuss spending life on the road together, and the good-natured teasing that goes with the territory.
