In this new Discover & Download interview, the enigmatic Minneapolis emcee/producer/singer/multi-instrumentalist P.O.S. talks about evolution.

In the clip, P.O.S. talks about the various meanings his stage name has had over the years, from "Pissed Off Stef" in his adolescence to "Promise Of Skill" in his emcee days. He also goes into detail about his varying levels of skill on various instruments, including drums, keys, bass, and even tuba (!!!).

You'll also find out about the evolution of the Minneapolis sound (from Prince to Atmosphere), the evolution of his Discover & Download track, "Never Better" (which he calls his "favorite song" he's ever written and which you can check out below).

You may have seen P.O.S. pull off an astounding one-man-band take on Pearl Jam's "Why Go" earlier this year. It's an interesting look for the Minneapolis producer/MC. At once ingenious and virtuosic, it shows P.O.S. as a dude who owes as much to the god known as Eddie Vedder as he does to the god of Rakim.

P.O.S.'s music is largely a self-produced hodgepodge of abrasive noise and block-rocking beats wrapped up in a thoughtful, idiosyncratic flow that betrays his roots in the backpack/indie rap scene that thrived in the early '00s: P.O.S. releases music through one of that scene's cornerstone labels, Rhymesayers, the home to Atmosphere).

In the video below, P.O.S. declares there's no AutoTune in grunge, but for him, there seem to be no rules, period. He's a beat-juggling, sampler-punching, mic-rocking dynamo. His album, Never Better was released in February, and his video of the same name is coming soon, so be ready. Follow P.O.S. on Twitter at @YEAHRIGHTPOS and check out his Pearl Jam cover and his video for the track, "Purexed" below.

We're still recovering from that crazy, sleep-deprived time in our lives we like to call the 2008 VMAs (and, more recently, from VH1's Hip Hop Honors bonanza), but that doesn't mean we're not already gearing up for the next big televised awards show. Fortunately, we don't have long to wait, seeing as the mtvU Woodie Awards kick off Wednesday, November 19th.

And whether you're a sorority girl (like Elle Woods!) a pre-frosh (like Serena and Blair!) or someone who religiously watches Hannah Montana, we have a feeling you're not gonna want to miss THE definitive college awards show (where all the nominees are chosen by poor, ramen-noodle-eating university types!) And since the polls are officially open from now through November 7th, here's a painstakingly complete list of the categories and nominees. You're welcome!

+ Lil Wayne, Paramore, Tokyo Police Club, MGMT and Santogold duke it out for Woodie of the Year. Note that as much as we would love to see the nominees breakdance fight, the winner for this category (and all subsequent categories) will be chosen solely on the basis of your votes.

+ We love charity. Just today, we selflessly scarfed down three oatmeal raisin cookies (purchased from a Breast Cancer Bake Sale!) all in the name of good health -- and late-afternoon sugar rushes. Now, cheer on your fave do-gooders as Eddie Vedder, Ludacris, Jack's Mannequin, Mary J. Blige and Emmanuel Jal fight for the right to take home the Good Woodie.

+ Ever heard that song "Video Killed the Radio Star?" Yeah, that's a bunch of bull. So hit the polls to see Adele and Motion City Soundtrack take on heavy hitters like Gnarls Barkley, Vampire Weekend and Erykah Badu for the Best Video Woodie.

+ We've always had a secret soft spot for the New Kid. So we'll definitely be checking back to find out which of these rookies (All Time Low, We The Kings, There For Tomorrow, Lykke Li and Tyga) is gonna walk out of here with the title of Breaking Woodie.

+ You know those amazing can't-live-without artists you never heard of 'til, like, yesterday? Well, you still have three more weeks to choose between No Age, Chromeo, Yelle, She and Him and The Cool Kids for Left Field Woodie.

+ And you gotta give it up for the performers who ALWAYS know how to put on a good show. Or as we like to call them, "the Michael Jordans of music." Yeah, we're talkin' about you, Kanye West, Atmosphere, N.E.R.D., The Ting Tings and Simian Mobile Disco. May the best one win! A Performance Woodie, that is.

****Psssst! Not only can you vote for your favorite artists -- you can also campaign for them on your Facebook/MySpace pages(!!) For more details about voting, campaigning and general Woodie goodness, go to mtvU's official Woodies Awards site. GO WOOD!

You know that cheesy "Hang in There!" poster (the one with the poor wittle kitty cat slipping off its wittle tree branch) that adorned the walls of Every Classroom You Ever Had? Yeah, we always hated that thing. And not because we're inherently negative (although we kinda are) or because we totally prefer dogs (although we kinda do), but because that stupid cat was hella lame.

To be honest, we prefer a more realistic type of coping mantra. Like the title of Atmosphere's latest album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S*** Gold. See, now to us, that's inspirational. After all, the Twin Cities' hip-hoppers aren't exactly known for oozing sunshine and rainbows. But while MC Slug and Ant's last few albums had an angry "Life Sucks, And Then You Die" theme happening, their latest set has a (comparatively) optimistic "Sh-t Happens, Deal With It" vibe. And given the state of today's financial markets, we figure that's about as close to cheerful as we're gonna get.

So check out "You," the third video off Atmosphere's new semi-inspirational new album, and admire the odd juxtaposition of peppy guitar beats and sad "This clock tick tock and you still a waitress" type lyrics. Hey, c'mon, the former Artists of the Week at least deserve an "E" for Effort, right?

Not since that paisley purple funk-filled egg cracked open to reveal Prince has Minneapolis produced such crucial musicians. Indie hip-hop duo Atmosphere -- made up of MC Slug and producer Ant, primarily -- has been cranking out conscious-raising, metaphor-laced sagas in album form for close to 15 years. Overcast!, their first official album as Atmosphere, debuted in 1997. On fan favorite Lucy Ford, Slug introduced ongoing recurring character "Lucy," a lyrical metaphor for wack chicks and relationship woes. The complex, introspective God Loves Ugly reinforced the duo's willingness to both spit some tough game and walk home with their proverbial tale between their legs, two themes explored further on the female-trouble-oriented Seven's Travels. After 2005's You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having was met with mixed reviews, Atmosphere returned last month to drop the brilliantly named When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S*** Gold, which entered The Billboard 200 at #5 -- a career-high for the duo and their Rhymesayers label.

The album is as complex as anything Slug and Ant have dreamed up in the past. The mix is lush, the guests include a beatboxing Tom Waits and TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, and (our favorite part) the deluxe edition boasts a hardcover, a bonus DVD (Sad Clown Bad Dub 13) and a Slug-penned children's story across it's 36 pages. Awesome!

Let's just say we love it, which is why we tapped Slug and Ant to set up shop -- in this case, a hip-hop lemonade stand -- all this week on MTV.

Moreover, you can dig into plenty of Atmosphere on MTV.com. Like the music videos for Lemons' "Guarantees" and "Shoulda Known," among others, photos from the MTV shoot, and clips from MTV2's Subterranean. And don't miss the interview Slug gave MTV's Sucker Free blog.

It gets even better. Take your adoration for Atmosphere worldwide web-style with Tag It on the duo's Paint That S*** Gold web site. Use the virtual spraypaint to make your mark anywhere and submit it to the gallery. Just don't deface Buzzworthy, k? Thanks.
