The first 15 seconds of Weezer's new single, "Memories," are filled with the sound of an orchestra warming up. But soon after that, any thoughts of classical Weezer are swept aside by the sounds of classic Weezer: a driving beat, guitar feedback and thumping bass line that recalls Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)."
"Memories" is a song that looks back at the recent future with a touching nostalgia. Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo has always worn his heart on his sleeve, sometimes to the point of corniness. But when applying his wide-eyed perspective to the past it sounds just right; you can't help but crack a smile when he recalls, "playing Hacky Sack back when Audioslave was still Rage."
Musically, the song lacks Weezer's usual swathes of guitars, instead relying on a Cars-like keyboard line in the chorus, as Cuomo wistfully sings, "Memories, make me want to go back there."
"Memories" is taken from Hurley, their eighth full length album. "Lost"-heads out there might think the album title to be a reference to the desert island show's rotund lottery winner. Well ... amazingly, you are right. Check out the cover art:

Dude! Hurley is out September 14. Take a listen to "Memories" below.

Street Sweeper Social Club hardly even gave you a minute to get anxious about waiting for their "100 Little Curses" video, now did they??? As you'll recall, we first got wind of the new clip yesterday when Tom Morello and Boots Riley did "The 5." And now, less than 24 hours later, the video is upon us!
As Tom and Boots mentioned in their interview, the "100 Little Curses" clip features performances by Sopranos-star Drea DiMateo and Clueless / Road Trip star Breckin Meyer. But the real stand-out in this video isn't a celebrity cameo. And it's not the revamped rap-rock sound, either (although that is a major highlight).
The star of this video, hands down, is the living, breathing backdrop. Writhing graffiti-esque text scrolls across a stark white wall, dripping ink blots in time with the music. The result is a clean, super-stylized launchpad for a super-duo with an aesthetic that comes across as boldly as their sound.
Watch as The Coup, Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave morph into new rock force, Street Sweeper Social Club, in the radical new Matthew Stawski (Deicide, Secret Machines)-directed video for "100 Little Curses."

Is it just me or does Tom Morello have the same voice as Barack Obama? I had to watch Street Sweeper Social Club's interview twice because the first time I was so distracted by his presidential tone that I pretty much couldn't concentrate on anything he said.
The Rage Against The Machine / Audioslave alumnus is half of Street Sweeper Social Club. His accomplice is Boots Riley of Oakland rap group The Coup. Together they just released their self-titled debut, along with a star-studded video for first single, "100 Little Curses."
Meet Street Sweeper Social Club in this exclusive MTV interview, keep an eye out for "100 Little Curses" (featuring Sopranos star Drea DiMateo and Road Trip star Breckin Meyer), and look for Street Sweeper Social Club on tour this summer with Jane's Addiction and supposed retirees Nine Inch Nails.
+ THIS JUST IN: Before leaving for Harvard, Tom Morello grew up in Chicago with his European mother and Kenyan father. WEIRD!
