Miley Cyrus covered Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go," and, people, do not laugh as I am completely serious when I muster all of my renown and critical authority (and put my rock-solid reputation as a SERIOUS MUSIC WRITER on the line here) to declare that Miley's cover should absolutely be taken seriously.
Miley's cover is part of the Bob Dylan compilation Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, a four-disc collection that honors Amnesty International's 50th anniversary and pays tribute to Bob Dylan, featuring artists like Ke$ha (who covered "Don't Think Twice It's Alright"), Adele, Pete Townshend, The Airborne Toxic Event and more. (See, we knew Miley was a role model.)
The accompanying video, which was released today and features guitarist Johnzo West, is a muted, pensive affair that focuses far more on the song's sentiment than on Miley the headline maker. It's the polar opposite of flashy Miley affairs like "Can't Be Tamed" or "Party In The USA." (If anything proves that Miley's growing up as a woman and as an artist, covering Dylan -- and doing it quite well -- is it.)
Old-school Bob Dylan fans are probably too busy completing the entire 33⅓ series on their first-gen Kindles or contemplating organic milk to read this, so I probably only have you, Miley fans, to convince that Miley's Dylan cover is worth several listens, and I probably don't have to. Miley covers "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" with all of the mournfulness and dusty sentiment that the classic Dylan song requires, pouring her heart into the track and giving the legend his due instead of simply covering the track and moving on. (It's hard to top the Shawn Colvin version, but Miley comes dangerously close.)
It takes not only guts but cojones the size of wrecking balls to cover Bob Dylan. Miley rose to the occasion, proving she's capable of genres beyond pop and that she thrives vocally in a folk/country environment. I'm now waiting impatiently for that country album, Milers.

Celebrities! They're SO just like us. They have wants and needs, and Christmas is a time to fulfill those wants and needs in a big way. The whole point of a Christmas list is to dream big, hope for the best and be happy with what you get.
With that in mind, we decided to go into the mind of Kanye West and guess what might be on his Christmas wish list and, more important, why it's there. As Kanye's tastes are somewhat pricey, these gifts tend toward the expensive side of things. But when you're Kanye West, money is really no object, right? Check out our version of Kanye West's Christmas wish list below.
1.) Lego Replica...Of Himself: Forget mirrors, dog! Mirrors are boring. If you want to stare at yourself, why not do so in the most colorful and craziest fashion possible? Pay artist Nathan Sawaya a mere $60,000 (PENNIES to Kanye!), and he will make a life-size Lego replica of you.
2.) Private Island In Hawaii: Kanye West recorded the majority of his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy at a studio on Oahu, in Hawaii. Why rent the studio when you can buy the island for a mere $5.5 mil?
3.) A Vinyl Copy Of Introducing The Beatles: The consummate crate digger, Kanye is always on the lookout for a dope sample. He might find some decent drum loops on there! Only $125,000!
4.) Signed Bob Dylan Harmonica: For a mere $25,000, Kanye can have this set of signed harmonicas from Bob Dylan. This would serve a dual purpose: signaling his butler or simply to just "bring harmonicas back."
5.) Life-Size, Ride-On Stuffed Buffalo: Oh, you got that new Denali, riding on 32s? Cool. KANYE WEST RIDES A STUFFED BUFFALO. Cop one of your own for only $2,500.

Not only is Gretchen Bleiler easy on the eyes, but she's also pretty maniacal on the halfpipe! Maybe you've seen her tear it up at the X Games or the Winter Dew Tour Superpipe or this tiny international sporting competition called the Vancouver Winter Olympics? Yeah, no big deal, right?
We were wondering what gets Bleiler hyped up before she's about to drop in the pipe, and she was happy to provide us with a bitchin' playlist. "I like a good mix of genres, and it's all about the beat of the song that fires me up or grounds me," explains Bleiler. "I love songs with a lot of confidence."
Included on her personal MP3 device are the tracks "It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop" by Dead Prez, "Your Voice" by Stiffed, "Session" by The Offspring, "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan, "Watch Out Now" by Beatnuts and "Da Booty" by A Tribe Called Quest.
We couldn't think of a more diverse list of tuneage. For more songs that meet Bleiler's stamp of shredding approval, check out the clips below.
Oh, and if you're interested in having Bleiler be your mentor for a radtastic summer internship, hoof it over to Old Spice Adventure for the skinny!

After taking a look behind the scenes, checking out some great photos from the set and teasing ourselves with a 30-second sneak peek, we're finally ready to unveil "Can't Stand It," the new video from Never Shout Never.
Directed by Isaac Ravishankara, the video follows NSN main man Christofer Drew as he navigates through love and fame while wearing a variety of different hats. I don't mean "hats," as in "he performs a lot of different roles." I mean hats hats. ... News-boy hats, top hats, and so on ...
As mentioned in the behind-the-scenes footage, Drew and Ravishankara used Bob Dylan's Don't Look Back and The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night as visual reference points. These homages are most detectable when video showcases Drew in various states of celeb malaise (à la Dylan) or as the object of screaming affection from hordes of fans (à la The Beatles).
The clip has a charmingly lo-fi, homemade feel to it, which definitely complements the simple, easygoing feeling of the song. Ah, bliss.
Check out the full-length video for "Can't Stand It" below. Never Shout Never's album What Is Love is out now.

As you probably already know, we're pretty big Never Shout Never heads. Over the last few weeks, we've seen Christofer Drew perform on MTV.com and host a preshow chat, where all his fans were able to ask him any question that popped into their heads. So, we couldn't be happier to announce that we'll be premiering his new video, "Can't Stand It,' on Thursday, March 4.
While we await his new video, check out this cool behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Can't Stand It."
We get to hear Christofer and director Isaac Ravishankara chat about the concept behind the clip while Ravishankara talks openly about referencing iconic images of Bob Dylan and The Beatles. Looks like "Can't Stand It" (which is taken from NSN's What Is Love album) will pay homage to Dylan's legendary documentary Don't Look Back as well as the much-loved Beatles film A Hard Day's Night.
We can't wait to see the final version and to see how this all shakes out! In the meantime, check out the making-of video below and make sure you're with us on Thursday when we debut the full-length version of "Can't Stand It."

+ More on Lady Gaga's pearly face from Wednesday night's AmFar benefit. According to reports, Gaga's performance of the song "Future Love" was typically theatrical. While sitting at her piano, she took a sip from a tea cup full of pearls, and then spat them all over the floor. According to designer Terrence Koh, "Those were real pearls... We wanted her to seem like a 2-D sculpture, and relate it to AIDS, in a happy, beautiful sense. She's puking out beautiful things." (Rolling Stone)
+ Gaga was among many pop stars mourning the loss of fashion designer Alexander McQueen. She Tweeted this touching photo of the two embracing one another. Elsewhere the likes of Janet Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna all made their condolences public. (MTV News)
+ Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus will be part of a star-studded live rendition of "We Are The World" tonight at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. They will be joined by Akon, Mary J. Blige and others. Opening ceremony coverage begins tonight at 7:30pm ET on NBC. (Idolator)
+ Given her debased, debauched public persona and her tendency to vandalize our national landmarks (even as a hoax), this Ke$ha interview -- wherein she talks about her love of Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline, her desire to collaborate with Prince and David Byrne, and generally gives a measured and articulate account of herself -- comes as something of a surprise. (Pop Eater)
+ With Valentine's Day on the horizon, Never Shout Never's Christofer Drew talks about his first love, his preference in V-Day cards and wanting a "bromance" with Bob Dylan (him again!) (Buzznet)
