Not every music video can feature dramatic, sweeping crane shots of snow-capped mountains and sullen, pensive stars precariously perched atop a cliff. Or naughty surprised faces and kinda-sexy come-hither winks. And not everyone can writhe around in body paint like Beyonce can or baffle us like Lady Gaga. Some of our favorite music videos of 2011 went straight for the LOLs using parody, satire, good old-fashioned sight gags and intentionally bad overacting. Here, in no particular order, are some of the, well, funniest funny videos of 2011.
+ Katy Perry, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" -- If Katy Perry had only given us Rebecca Black, it would've been enough for us. But she packed her "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" video with over-the-top cameos, including Kenny G blowing sax on a roof, Deborah Gibson and Corey Feldman AND HANSON!
+ Chromeo, "When The Night Falls" -- We're pretty sure that you can't get pregnant just by LOOKING at Chromeo's Dave 1 and P-Thugg... or CAN you? Regardless, the kid is not my son, but Chromeo better be ready to shell out thousands in child support.
+ Jessie J, "Who's Laughing Now" -- In her Emil Nava-directed video, lil Jessie J goes back to school and draws strength from bullies and haters while real Jessie J, posed as a lunch lady in serious need of a makeover, hits back with a raised middle finger and the best revenge of them: BEING FAMOUS BEING AND PAID.

+ Ke$ha, "Blow" -- Unicorns, Muenster cheese and Ke$ha are pretty much all you need to create organic hilarity, but Ke$ha totally raised the bar when she killed -- and mounted! -- James Van Der Beek.
+ Duck Sauce, "Big Bad Wolf" -- A-Trak and Armand Van Helden LITERALLY turn into d***heads in Keith Schofield's ragingly inappropriate, howlingly hilarious "Big Bad Wolf" video. But they find love, so it's almost sweet, right?
+ Beastie Boys, "Make Some Noise" -- Elijah Wood's Ad-Rock impression is scary-good. But Danny McBride as MCA and the Beasties' musical history in cameo form is almost genius.

+ Black Keys "Lonely Boy"-- If you thought that one continuous shot of a man dancing outside of a motel wouldn't be funny, then you thought way way wrong.
+ We The Kings, "Friday Is Forever/ Rebecca Black 'Friday' Mashup" -- Sometimes the funniest videos are the cheapest. And we mean that lovingly, We The Kings. Their "Friday Is Forever" video is a mashup of Rebecca Black's "Friday" and a bizarro joyride with Black Swan, Ke$ha, and Charlie Sheen all in the same car.
+ Foo Fighters, "Walk" -- Dave Grohl is fed up with just about everything, pulls a Michael-Douglas-in-"Falling-Down," minus the super unfortunate haircut, plus the unsatisfying cheeseburger, ends up tased. Guitars, not guns!

When our "Bigger Than The Buzz" producers asked us which celebrities we'd want to appear on our episode 5 of "Bigger Than The Buzz," we had only three answers. Oprah, Kate Middleton and Joe Jonas. Oprah was busy (whatEVER), Kate Middleton declined but sent us a lovely box of macrons. And Joe Jonas stepped up to the plate, making him our very first celebrity guest! (Also, Oprah and Kate Middleton are OFF my Christmas card list.)
So, not only did MTV News' James Montgomery and I get to share a tall, cool glass of milk with Joe, but we got a chance to find out his take on the VMAs -- he's a VMA presenter, and he'll be kicking off VMA weekend by performing live at mtvU's VMA Concert to Benefit Lifebeat - Music Fights HIV concert with Cobra Starship and Miguel. And, since he's going on tour with Britney Spears, he told us what he plans to steal from her dressing room. Watch out, Brit. If your feather boa goes missing, you know who to call.
Also, inspired by my current favorite video -- Chromeo's dangerously fertile "When The Night Falls" video -- James, Joe and I discussed artists who are so hot they should come with their own birth control. Joe Jonas' answer: Michael Bolton. AMAZING! And speaking of babies, we speculated on Lady Gaga's VMA opening performance. If I were running things, I'd try to arrange for Lady Gaga to give birth to a baby Gaga wearing a meat dress. Wait... What? No? Not gonna happen? Okay, that's not gonna happen. She's probably got something even than that bigger planned.
We also got Joe Jonas' style tips for guys (specifically, for James). What it comes down to is that "fashion hurts." Amen, (Jonas) brother.
And for you Joe Jonas fans out there who wanna know what Joe's like in person, well, you probably won't be surprised to hear that he's not only incredibly down-to-earth -- he arrived on set with almost no entourage, excited to be part of the show ("I saw the show! It's really fun. But why milk?" he asked me before the cameras started rolling), but he's also dangerously funny and really knows his shiz when it comes to music. Actually, I'm a little worried they'll replace me with him. Anyway, big thanks to Joe Jonas for being our first celebrity guest on "Bigger Than The Buzz." (And also, please don't take my job.)
Watch Episode 5 of "Bigger Than The Buzz," featuring special guest star Joe Jonas. And after the jump, watch episode Episode 4, featuring Britney's Pauly D lap dance. And catch up on Steve Urkel's musical career in "Bigger Than The Buzz" Episode 3! And check out Episode 2, featuring new band Emily's Army and a cat with a job, and episode 1, where we kill owling.

New Wave/electro-funk duo Chromeo already has a powerful effect on its fans. But their video for "When The Night Falls" proves that if you get close enough to the duo, spontaneous pregnancy may occur. You've been warned, ladies.
After P-Thugg and Dave 1 impregnate numerous women with their music -- did we really just write that? -- the pair find themselves immersed in a neonatal version of "Night of the Living Dead." Running away from an army of club girls-turned-moms-to-be (including SOLANGE!, who appears on the track), the pair continue to get girls pregnant with their instruments, with P-Thugg using a woman's burgeoning belly to block pursuers... temporarily. He eventually gets "bitten" with kisses and transformed into his worst nightmare: a dad.
Like David Lynch's "Eraserhead," the video is actually a semi-serious, nightmarish look at the fears of impending fatherhood, though the guys don't take it too seriously. Did we mention they get girls pregnant by blasting them with sonic waves of their own music? And wouldn't that mean an earplug could function as the condom? Less questions, more watching.
"When the Night Falls" is the latest single from Business Casual, the group's third album, released last year.

Despite being born in the '90s, 18-year-old Sky Ferreira seems to know that the best party is wherever there's '80s music playing. Her song "Sex Rules" is a throwback to everyone's favorite neon decade of yore, and like it or not, it'll be stuck in your head after just one listen.
In case you're one of two people (the other one being me) who thought a song called "Sex Rules" would be about weird rules for sex, you're wrong. Sky Ferreira is young, legal and simply expressing her sexuality -- she literally means "sex rules." You know, like you or I might say, "These nachos rule," or like Ox from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure said, "San Dimas High School football rules!" ('80s reference!)
Previously on "17," we heard Sky Ferreira get all dark-disco on us, but on "Sex Rules," think super early Madonna mixed with 21st-century synthpop (Chromeo, Robyn, La Roux). It's fun, synth-y, sexy pop music. "I think you mean PROTECTED sexy pop music!!!!" -- Everyone's mom

The Ready Set has a new song out! It's called "Young Forever," and it's going to have you counting down the nanoseconds until the weekend. Careful getting down in those skinny jeans, though. Dancing in jeggings may cause irreversible tearing. (I speak from experience.)
"Young Forever" is the follow-up to The Ready Set's platinum single "Love Like Woe," and Jordan Witzigreuter turned it up a notch for this track. While you could kind of jump around a little bit to "Love Like Woe," it was more suited to quasi dancing and doing that nodding-your-head-to-the-side-fist-pumping-but-not-in-a-Pauly-D-way thing. "Young Forever" is straight-up ass-shaking central. The electro-pop track reminds us just a bit of Chromeo, minus the '80s neon, plus a touch of unabashed Ke$ha-style partying. In other words, "Young Forever" is party central.
The Ready Set is currently headlining the Glamour Kills tour, but a video for "Young Forever" is in the works. Stay tuned!

Cometh the Britney single, cometh the remix. You just knew once Britney Spears dropped "Hold It Against Me" it was only a matter of time before the remixes, reworks, mashups and edits started pouring in.
A quick scan of ye olde Internet reveals dozens of dance-oriented remixes, from disco-flavored reworks to even more dubsteppy (dubsteppier?) versions. And there's already talk of a remix featuring Atlanta MC and ice cream-cone enthusiast Gucci Mane.
For our purposes, today, we're going to be talking about this remix by Robots With Rayguns, the DJ/production name of electro producer Lucas Patrick Smith. Robots has done remixes for Lady Gaga and Chromeo, and with this version of "Hold It Against Me," it sounds like they've hit another home run.
With some slinky keyboards and minimal drum machine programming, Robots With Rayguns gives "Hold It Against Me" the feel of an '80s Eurythmics or Pet Shop Boys track. It's a fascinating listen, and it really shows how much you can do within the remix format.

With the duo's two previous Business Casual videos--the glow in the dark spectacle "Don't Turn The Lights On" and the dirty dancing of "Night By Night"--Chromeo has been nothing short of dazzling. So the new clip for the single "Hot Mess" has a lot to live up to.
"Hot Mess" is another sleek piece of '80s-inspired (specifically Hall & Oates-inspired) pop. The video, directed by Jeremie Rozan, finds the duo of P-Thugg and Dave 1 enduring some workplace hazing. Employed as uniformed sheriff's deputies, the boys of Chromeo walk through a gauntlet of taunting, hooting coworkers, all of whom happen to be women.
The roles are reversed as the boys get heckled and prodded by the girls, bringing about some thoughtful laughs. There's also a choreographed tribute to Robert Palmer's iconic "Simply Irresistible" video, which can only be a good thing.
Check out Chromeo's "Hot Mess" video below. Business Casual is out now.

Legendary NYC house producer/DJ Armand Van Helden and legendary hip-hop/electro DJ A-Trak are some pretty heavy hitters on their own. But together, they form...Duck Sauce? That's right, named after one of the seven wonders of the world of condiments and dedicated to making ecstatic dance music that celebrates the two DJ/producers' roots, Duck Sauce has been an underground sensation for a little while now. But with this new video for their single "Barbra Streisand," the secret is gonna be out.
"Barbra Streisand" was directed by So Me, who was behind Justice's critically lauded "D.A.N.C.E." clip. Duck Sauce's video is basically a love letter to New York City: its energy, its people and, most of all, its music.
Keep your eyes peeled for cameos from the likes of Kanye West, Chromeo, DJ Premier (of Gang Starr), ?uestlove of The Roots, Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend and many, many more.

After Chromeo's fleet-footed "Night By Night" video, which featured singer Dave 1 seducing ladies with his Fred-Astaire-meets-John-Travolta-like moves (watch it below), we were pretty excited for their next music video. And "Don't Turn The Lights On" doesn't disappoint.
Directed by Keith Schofield and taken from Chromeo's upcoming Business Casual album, "Don't Turn The Lights On" is more creepy than seductive, but it's an awesome clip just the same.
Set in a variety of locales -- a library, an apartment -- we didn't notice anything initially odd about the video until the lights go out. That's when things get a little creepy. We don't wanna spoil it for you, but, um, you should keep your "eyes" on this video. It'll make your skin crawl. Har.
Watch Chromeo's "Don't Turn The Lights On" below and check out "Night By Night" in case you missed it. Business Casual is out September 14th.

Chicago's Hey Champ makes seductive, slick electro-pop for the Members Only-jacket-with-the-sleeves-pushed-up-set, perfect for your backyard summer barbecues that devolve into nighttime dance parties.
Hey Champ got some exposure opening for Lupe Fiasco in 2008 after the Chicago rapper handpicked them off the strength of the group's "Cold Dust Girl" video. Since then, they've set about producing nonstop infectious jams such as "Neverest," combining the electro-funkiness of Prince and power-pop sensibilities of The Cars.
Listen to Hey Champ and behold their bacchanalian video for "Cold Dust Girl." And stay tuned for their debut album, Star, out July 13.
