Nicki Minaj arriving at the 2012 Grammys
We were all anxious to see what the 2012 Grammys would have in store after we heard of the tragic, shocking death of one of music's greatest legends, Whitney Houston. But as many of her peers suggested, Whitney would have wanted the show to go on. While there was a bit of a dark overtone to the Grammys, it wasn't without proper celebration and must-see moments.
From Nicki Minaj's pope sidekick to Katy Perry debuting her new single (and burning her old flame to the ground) to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl sticking up for old-time rock and roll, the 2012 Grammys had more than a few moments to remember. Take a look at the most-talked-about moments from the show below, and be sure to check out all of MTV's 2012 Grammy coverage for more information, a complete winners list and video highlights from the show.
+ Nicki Minaj arrived wearing that red thing with someone dressed like the pope: Definitely a daring move on the night after Whitney Houston passed away. I know they don't have anything to do with one another, but that kind of showy ostentation is usually frowned upon after such a tragic event.
+ Bruno Mars' splits on stage during his James Brown-inspired performance of "Runaway": Whoa, Bruno. Didn't know you could get down like that... literally.
+ Kelly Clarkson's continued reign of Supreme Flawlessness: The woman does no wrong, let's just face facts. Her performance of "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Jason Aldean was like, perfection. Objective perfection.

+ In her relatively short career, Lady Gaga has already had many memorable moments at the VMAs. But the one that stands out to her is her win for Best New Artist in 2009. "I just remember that I won and I was surprised and I was really taken aback." (MTV News)
+ In case you don't get your fill of Nicki Minaj at the VMAs, she, David Guetta and Flo Rida will perform their collab "Where Them Girls At" on "America's Got Talent" August 31. It's their debut performance of the song. (Rap-Up)
+ None of us should be surprised that Lady Gaga is among the "World's 100 Most Powerful Women" as Forbes' list indicates. That she ranked higher (#11) than any other female entertainer is quite impressive. (E!)
+ Joe Jonas just revealed the cover of his forthcoming album, Fastlife, on his website via a puzzle fans can unscramble. (ONTD)
+ Next month is Nirvana's 20th anniversary of Nevermind and surviving members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic and producer Butch Vig will be on Sirius XM on September 24 to field questions from a studio audience and callers. Jon Stewart will host. (Rolling Stone)

Let me start off by saying that I hate running. I used to say unless there was someone chasing me or a big bag of money across the street, I wasn't moving these gams for no one.
Then I hit 30 -- and my metabolism plummeted. I quickly learned if I didn't want to turn into a big ball of mush, I would need to put aside my problems with jogging and learn how to fly like the wind.
After investing in a supercute outfit, shiny new trainers and fancy pedometer, I turned my attention to the most important part of my cardiovascular mission: making a high-energy playlist. I spent hours testing the BPMs, counterpoint textures and ascending rhythm of chord progressions to make sure I compiled the most high-energy songs possible. Finally, I was equipped with everything I needed to run circles around Carmelita Jeter.
I'd love to tell you that I run 10 miles every day and am currently training for the New York Marathon. Unfortunately, I'd be lying. In the past year, I can count the times I've gone jogging on one hand -- and three fingers, if you want to get technical. I can say that I listen to my running mix all the time, though. It's the greatest soundtrack for bedroom dance parties. (Hell, those have gotta burn some calories, right?)
That's why you should do as I say; not as I do. So, if you're looking to raise your heart rate and log some miles on the concrete, I suggest you load up your music player with songs from CSS, Daft Punk, The Sounds and Shiny Toy Guns.

It'd been a minute since Dave Grohl and his intrepid Foo Fighters exploded our faces off with a hard-rocking awards show performance. But thankfully, that minute has passed.
Joined by on-again Foo guitarist Pat Smear, the Foo Fighters opened the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards with a blood-pressure-raising live performance of "Rope," the lead single off their upcoming seventh studio album Wasting Light.
Set on a garage-like stage back-lit with beaming rays of light -- and duh, a mini catwalk into the crowd -- it was the kind of performance that learned all the whippersnapper acts at South by Southwest a thing or two about rocking. Note to indie bands hoping to break out during their time in Austin: This is what longevity looks like.
The Foo Fighters are fresh off of last Thursday's "Rope" video premiere and the SXSW premiere of their new documentary, directed by Academy Award winner James Moll. Wasting Light is due out April 11.

If we were trapped in a giant cube with no discernible means of escape, we'd probably panic, scrape the walls and scream like little babies. But that's why we're not famous musicians like Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters in "Rope," the first single off Wasting Light, the group's seventh album and their first since 2007's Echoes, Silence Patience & Grace.
Foo Fighters don black in the all-white cube while a bunch of handheld cameras helpfully cause that migraine you've been hoping not to get. The minimalist video reminds us of Nine Inch Nails' "March of the Pigs," only with less mic dropping and video assistants having to enter the frame unexpectedly to help the lead singer.
You can't say the band isn't trying to switch it up, as the mid-tempo rhythms and melodic vocals of "Rope" -- which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Rock Songs chart, becoming the first No. 1 debut since Linkin Park's "The Catalyst" -- are a world away from Grohl's metal-loving, screeching side heard on "White Limo."
Oh wait. Trapped in a giant cube. "Rope." We just figured that out now.
Watch a sneak peek of Foo Fighters' "Rope" video, don't miss the video premiere on MTV and MTV.com this Thursday, March 10, atĀ 7:54 p.m. ET, and don't miss the Foo Fighters' live performance at the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards on Wednesday, March at midnight ET on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU.

The Foo Fighters have a new album, Wasting Light, coming out soon-ish. And as sure as water is wet and the sky is (usually) blue, it will definitely rock. These are just things we've come to expect.
The first single from Wasting Light is called "Rope," and it's expected to drop on March 1. Which would make this new track, "White Limo," something of a coming attraction, I would guess. As coming attractions go, however, this will certainly make your Wednesday 10 times more thrashy.
"White Limo" finds main Foo Fighter, Dave Grohl, returning to his roots. And by roots, I'm not referring to his time behind the kit as the drummer for Nirvana. Nope, we're going all the way back to Grohl's days in the D.C. hardcore punk scene as a member of Scream.
What you get is a blistering, paint-stripping thrash track that mixes mosh-inducing hard-core with the Foo's penchant for melody. The track also comes with a vaguely official video, starring Lemmy of Motorhead and the Foo Fighters as some irate gardeners.
Check out the Foo Fighters' "White Limo." Wasting Light is out April 8.
