about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

You've seen Fefe Dobson's style evolution and voted on what you thought Fefe should wear to the 2009 VMAs.

Now check out Fefe Dobson's smashin' fashion and find out more about what she wore to the 2009 VMAs -- a very Alexander McQueen/ Joan Jett- inspired look -- a red plaid Smythe jacket, bad-ass Rebecca Taylor animal-print booties, and black sequined leggings by Hanii Y.

Plus, watch Fefe and Kim Stolz complete their VMA fashion expedition, and check out Fefe Dobson on the VMA red carpet with Adrienne Bailon.

You've seen Fefe Dobson's style evolution. Now get an exclusive look at Fefe's VMA shopping trip in New York City with MTV's Kim Stolz. Fefe and Kim tried on lots of amazing outfits, but only one will make it to the MTV VMAs this Sunday, September 13.

Check out these photos of Fefe Dobson in her potential VMA outfits, and vote to help decide what she should wear to the 2009 VMAs! Check out more photos of the pair figuring out what to wear for the big night.

Fefe Dobson -- the Canadian rock singer-songwriter who's toured with Justin Timberlake, written for Miley Cyrus and Jordin Sparks, counts Demi Lovato as a fan, and earned herself two Juno Award nominations -- is a style chameleon whose ever-evolving sense of fashion is clearly reflected in her musical tastes, which range from the White Stripes to Kurt Cobain to the Vines to Britney Spears, and her and collaborators, which include Cyndi Lauper, and Cobra Starship, who she'll be performing live with at the The 2009 Video Music Awards Battle for the Best Breakout NYC Artist this Friday, September 10 in New York.

Fefe's new album, Joy, is coming out soon, and we'll see if her style continues to evolve as her music does too. But first, she's going shopping with MTV's Kim Stolz for something to wear to the 2009 VMAs this Sunday, September 13.

Check out a few of Fefe Dobson's looks to get a feel for her style, and stay tuned for an inside look at what goes into celebrity shopping for the VMAs!

Like Britney Spears, one of her many musical influences, Fefe Dobson rocks a faux fur jacket at Lauren Conrad's "Head for the Hills" party in Toronto in March 2008. And those glasses? Gabe Saporta and Justin Timberlake would be proud.

Fefe goes glam -- think a cross between Vanessa Hudgens and Rihanna (who Fefe's accused of stealing her style) -- without shedding her rocker-girl edge at an entertainment event in Toronto in September 2006.

At a June 2009 party thrown by wil.i.Am in Toronto, Fefe pulls off a classic Joan Jett rocker-girl look in cut-offs and lots of leather.

+ Ever the smart businessman, Snoop Dogg has just released some sick headphones (the only ones available with in-ear subwoofers), in partnership with music accessory outfit Skullcandy. Gotta make that meezy, fo' sheezy. (HipHop Wired)

+ Lady Gaga does the cover of OUT magazine (along with an amazing photo spread and accompanying article), and when we say "does it," we mean she blows it out. of the effing. water. Don't walk... RUN! (OUT)

+ Remind us again why Scarlett Johansson is trying to have a singing career? Probably the same reason Beyonce is trying to have an acting career. Watch this just-released video in which, regardless of whether or not she can sing she looks insanely hot, for "Relator" with Pete Yorn to refresh your memory. (PopSugar)

+ We love Fefe Dobson (remember "Take Me Away?"). Evidently she put on a smoldering show at NYC's Mercury Lounge (performing new tracks like "I Want You" mixed with some old favorites) last night. We love what this girl stands for: sticking it to the man and doing things her way. Let's hope this time around her label will keep her on the payroll for a while. (Neon Limelight)

People, Fefe Dobson should be huge. This mini Joan Jett is off in all the right ways: she doesn't quite belong in music today, and her melodies are so resolute and committed in their differences.

And now, as I step down from my musical soapbox, let me lower the bar and admit I first heard Fefe's new single "I Want You" on promos for obvious Emmy-contender Megan Wants a Millionaire. But let's try to erase that association and focus instead on Fefe's new "I Want You" music video below, which just premiered on MTV. I enjoy the oft-used high-school setting; schoolgirl crush frustration still rears its whiny head from time to time (at least it does for me), and Fefe tailing a boy down the hall, yelling her longing into his deaf ears... resonates, to say the least. To say the VERY least.

Going back in time, Fefe won me over with the outrageously overlooked "Don't Let It Go to Your Head," the lead single from her album Sunday Love, which Island never released (they subsequently dropped her) ... because no one listened to it. OUTRAGEOUS! Please download it right now -- or at the very least listen to Jordin Sparks' cover (it's track 3 on Battlefield; I'm glad someone appreciates...)
