In 1999, MTV News correspondent Serena Altschul went on a very important shopping trip with a certain young pop star. Britney Spears was looking for her VMA wardrobe. Outfits for her red-hot arrival, on-stage performance and the after-parties had to be found just days before the show. With the help of Todd Oldham, Britney found her red carpet look, but before settling on that iconic see-through and sequined jacket with pants there were some other ideas that would require the work of "safety panties."
