+ Katy Perry may surpass the title for which she's currently tied with Michael Jackson and score six No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 from the same album. Can Teenage Dream's "The One That Got Away" do it? We'll find out soon, but peep the cover art. (Neon Limelight)
+ Will a "sharking" meme go viral next? Check out photos of Ke$ha working a shark mask in Rio de Janeiro yesterday. There are also snaps of her boat ride in Sao Paolo. (ONTD)
+ Lady Gaga and Cher's "The Greatest Thing" may drop in the next couple of days. While we wait with baited breath, co-writer/producer RedOne says, "I think it's timeless. The beautiful thing about this song is, it's very uplifting...and it has a dance vibe on it." (MTV News)
+ He's in. He's out. He's in. T.I.'s officially free (again), having been released from a halfway house in Atlanta last night. "[He] basically checked out of the halfway house for the very last time," said a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson. (Rap-Up)
+ Courtney Love's slated to write a memoir, which will cover everything -- her childhood, her marriage to Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, her relationship with Billy Corgan, the scoop about her band Hole and her Hollywood roles. (New York Times)
+ Looking for a unique Halloween gift? The Flaming Lips (but of course!) have you covered. They're releasing a 24-hour song (!!) that will be encased in a human skull!!! (Pitchfork)
+ Sylvia Robinson passed away yesterday of congestive heart failure. She was 75. Among her many accomplishments, she was a rap trailblazer who orchestrated Sugarhill Gang's seminal "Rapper's Delight." The song was the first to prove rap commercially viable. (RapFix)

Originally intended for Courtney Love's solo record, "Samantha" was composed several years ago and cowritten by Courtney and songwriters Linda Perry and Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins). While Courtney's solo record never came to fruition, the track eventually made it on to Hole's 2010 release Nobody's Daughter. Which brings us to the "Samantha" video.
In the "Samantha" video, Courtney is decked head-to-toe in bridal wear and is seen trudging through what seems to be an abandoned, destroyed city. Smoke billows from a building behind her, and the streets are packed with burnt car frames and overturned trucks. Naturally, Courtney isn't at all shocked by the scenery and seems to actually enjoy frolicking among the wreckage while in her wedding gown. (We're guessing she's really NOT into her groom.) Next up, Courtney returns to what we assume is the scene of the crime: an abandoned wedding banquet table and a bedroom... that she proceeds to light on fire, NBD.
While we're not quite sure what the hell went on at those nuptials, we do know this: Committing arson in a couture wedding dress is like, so bad-ass and quintessentially Hole. Oh, and if we were that groom, we'd get the hell out of town right about now.

Oh, Courtney Love. Courtney, Courtney, Courtney.
It's been a wild ride, hasn't it? For all the trials and tribulations you've had to endure over the years, it's good to know you can dust the dirt off your shoulders, throw on a couture gown, head out to a fancy movie premiere and still look flawless.
Last night, you showed up at the premiere of the new Sean Penn movie, This Must Be The Place, which is named after one of my favorite Talking Heads songs, and looked every bit like the Hollywood starlet. I mean, seriously. Da-yum. Plus, to pull out the whole lip bitey thing on top of it? That's so "Rocky Horror Picture Show"! You'll inspire a legion of girls to bite their lips in 2011 in the same way you inspired the grunge-era female masses to bleach their hair and rock tattered slip dresses.
C-Love, it's time to channel that energy, write another Live Through This and get the original Hole lineup back together again. Who's with us?!?
One week ago today, I was maxing and relaxing in sunny Los Angeles. I spent my time eating Mexican food on patios, driving with the windows down and walking my friend's adorable dog, Hudson, around the Silver Lake Reservoir. In other words, one week ago today, I wasn't wearing Wellies, hitting people with my industrial-size umbrella and suffering from humidity-induced hair frizz.
That's right -- I love you, New York City, but you've gotta quit with this rain garbage!
I moved to NYC from Los Angeles in July to accept my amazing editor gig at MTV.com, and while I had only lived in the City of Angels for 18 months, in that time I became pretty attached to my picturesque surroundings. One week after moving out West, I remember driving down Sunset Boulevard, whizzing past the Chateau Marmont, thinking to myself, "Do I really live here? This must be a dream!" and I continued to pinch myself on a weekly basis until I had to stop pinching myself, because that's weird.
While I absolutely love my Manhattan stomping ground, I definitely miss Los Angeles on days like this when the rain is incessant, the sky is gray, and the public transportation smells like ass.
To get in touch with my California self, I'd like to share some of the songs that remind me of my former hood. Grab a beach towel, apply some sunblock and feel 100 times sunnier with music from The Distillers, Everclear, Hole and Coconut Records.
Finally, and if you'd like to keep up with all my musings, please visit my website and follow me on Twitter (@redpatterndress).
1.) The Distillers' "City Of Angels": I don't listen to a ton of full-out punk rock, but once I heard The Distillers, I was hooked. Their second album, Sing Sing Death House, unleashed my inner Liberty-spiked rebel, and I always thought "City Of Angels" was the perfect love letter to Hollywood and the Sunset Strip. Plus, I was lucky enough to hang out with frontwoman Brody Dalle a couple times while I was working at Alternative Press, and she remains one of the badass-est ladies I've ever met.
2.) Everclear's "Santa Monica": I can't tell you how many times I spent driving around Shaker Heights, Ohio, in my friend Jessica's mom's Toyota Celica convertible, blaring this song while the two of us screamed along at the top of our lungs. We would even put the top down in the middle of winter and blast the heat so we could still achieve the full "Santa Monica" experience. (I also can't tell you how many times I developed a gnarly head cold because of such behavior.) Oddly enough, Jessica still drives her mom's Celica, and when I go visit her at the end of the month, don't think I'm not bringing this song with me!
3.) Hole's "Malibu": Sadly, I never managed to make my way to "Malibu" while I lived in L.A., but I can put this song on, close my eyes and almost smell the salty beach air. One of these days, I'm going to take a mini-trip and drive down to the Paradise Cove Pier. From there, I also might have to frolic in the water in a nearly nude slip dress so I can pretend to be Courtney Love in the "Malibu" video. NBD.
4.) Coconut Records' "West Coast": Whereas some Jason Schwartzman fans would pick Phantom Planet's "California" as their favorite L.A.-inspired song by the Rushmore Renaissance man, I prefer the quieter indie pop of "West Coast." (Why, you ask? I blame it on watching too many reruns of The O.C. on The Soap Network while I was fun-employed.) Plus, I think the line, "I wish you would've put yourself in my suitcase," is the cutest thing ever, so if Jason ever wanted to sneak away in my luggage, I'd totally pay the check-in fee.

From fighting with Madonna to a Golden Globe nomination to tweeting half-naked pictures of herself, no one knows what Courtney Love is going to say or do next. Mrs. Kurt Cobain recently sat down with The New York Times for an interview that is being described as "wild" and "amazing." To put it mildly.
The Hole frontwoman seemed to have some trouble focusing during the interview, which centers around Courtney's struggle to become more respected in the media. That struggle might have something to do with the fact that Ms. Love met The New York Times reporter in her hotel room late, drunk, and naked. Then she made the reporter help her put her shoes on... while naked.
Love her or hate her, there's no denying that Courtney Love is a wellspring of some of the most memorable quotes this side of Kanye West's Twitter feed. Here are 10 of Courtney Love's most notable quotes from her New York Times profile.
1.) To be honest, I just don't care" -- Courtney Love, on her public verbal feuds with the likes of Taylor Momsen, Robert Pattinson, and former flame Billy Corgan.
2.)"I'd like to be trusted again, like I was at one point" -- Courtney Love, referring to the time period when she was nominated for a Golden Globe for "The People vs. Larry Flint."
3.) "Living in LA had a really bad effect on me" -- Courtney Love, on her substance abuse.
4.)"I know that my daughter will come around and stop with this stuff" -- Courtney Love, on her daughter, Francis Bean, who was legally emancipated in 2009.
5.) "I was taking it like a man" -- Courtney Love, on not being able to get dresses from fashion designers in fear that she would tarnish their names.
6.) "For years, despite having impeccable taste, I didn't understand how to convey that I had impeccable taste" -- Courtney Love, on her reputation.
7.) "I will never, ever forgive [her] for not being glamorous" -- Courtney Love, on her mother.
8.) "What is the word for the one pill that you took in your life that made you far more conservative and stop cursing so much? I don’t know what that pill was, but somehow someone slipped that in my drink" -- Courtney Love, on becoming more conservative.
9.) "These are my wakeup cupcakes, some anti-depressants, and a cell phone book" -- Sorry, no idea what she's talking about.
10.) "I trust you understand that our hearts can take us all to dark and ill timed places. Warmly, Courtney. xx" -- Courtney Love, in a text message to the reporter a day after the interview, apologizing for her behavior.

It became clear to me when I interviewed Courtney Love, as it will to you when you watch the videos below, that she is not the type of woman who gets interrupted often. Love is the opposite of timid, and, as she freely admits in this interview, she has no filter. But it's part of her dynamic. And why should Love stop talking? She's a walking, talking, full-color book of stories and opinions. She's funny, open, she freely admits her shortcomings and she's completely honest. Many musicians show up at MTV having memorized their press release. Love is not that girl. (She expressly told me she hates talking about what her songs mean.)
Love has been the grunge poster girl, married to one of the most iconic rock figures of the 20th century. Plus, with four Hole albums down -- including the latest Hole album, Nobody's Daughter -- she's created some of the most influential female-fronted rock music of all time. Clearly, Love has had experiences that you and I have not, nor will we ever have.
In this exclusive MTV Buzzworthy Blog interview, she shares experiences that are quintessentially hers, such as convincing Linda Perry to give her "Beautiful" instead of Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears (we know how that ended up), playing a private Vegas show in a Balenciaga dress and Kurt Cobain calling her the greatest f*** in the world. Love also shares with us some experiences that are universal: making money, the nuances of bipolar disorder, Twitter, Etsy addictions (she spent six figures on Etsy) and body functions. Also, you probably don't have to deal with Lady Gaga's stylistic influence on the changing face of the music industry and the chasm between rock and pop. But Love does. She's the "queen of rock and roll," and at the same time, she's down-to-earth enough to be your next-door neighbor.
Watch Courtney Love cover all of those topics and much more in these exclusive Buzzworthy interview clips.

Courtney Love is releasing a new album, "Nobody's Daughter," with her old band, Hole, today. The grunge goddess appeared at a New York City record store to play acoustic and sign copies of the album yesterday. She was was rocking an uncharacteristically sunny demeanor with a frilly yellow top and a big, happy smile. While occasionally she can be found in states of emotional and physical, um, unrest, Love was the picture of professionalism, pedaling her wares to fans who've been waiting a long time for new music from the "Doll Parts" singer.
"Nobody's Daughter" is the first Hole album in 12 years, belatedly following up the shiny pop of "Celebrity Skin."
