about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

Jason Derulo will be taking his widescreen R&B tracks like "Whatcha Say" on the road with Lady Gaga in December and January. So that leaves him plenty of time to soak up the sights and sounds of Halloween in advance.

In this episode of "Halloween Horrors," Derulo recalls some Fright Night's of yesteryear. Now, one of Derulo's favorite Halloween memories is apparently the time he, "egged one of my enemies' cars." Now, this is just my opinion, but do you really have enemies when you're young? That seems a bit severe.

Mom: "How was your day, Timmy?"

Kid: "Oh, just dealing with my enemies."

In other Halloween news, Jason once usually was forced into a the D.I.Y. realm when it came to costumes; going one year as Pillow Case Man. Also, he's on "Team Liquorice Sucks" with We The Kings.

Jason Derulo, you've got yourself a problem. Your girl caught you cheating, and but you don't want her to leave you. Risk-adverse types might point out that you should've thought about that before you snuck off with What's Her Name. (And WHAT IS HER NAME, anyway, Jason Derulo?)

But when you're a talented young multi-hyphenate (singer/songwriter and actor/dancer in Jason Derulo's case), you rework an Imogen Heap song, throw some AutoTune polish on it, you sink to the ground, and you plead your case from the gut like in the brand-new video for Jason Derulo's smash hit, "Whatcha Say."

Watch the MTV premiere of Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" video, directed by Bernard Gourley.

No, that wasn't a typo. Not SALMON STEAKS. SALMON SHAKES. Jason Derulo -- he sings "Whatcha Say," that infectious, emotionally wrought, AutoTune-heavy reimagining of Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek" -- keeps his manly physique manly by sippin' on SALMON SHAKES. POWER SHAKES MADE OF SALMON. I CAN'T HANDLE IT. But proof's in the pecs. I'm buying tickets to Derulo's gun show, yo.

Anyway, I totally spoiled one thing, but find out four more things you need to know about rising star Jason Derulo, besides that he's a seasoned tap dancer. Whoops. Find out three more things in Jason Derulo's brand-new "The 5" video interview. Plus, get a sneak peek of the "Whatcha Say" video, and stay tuned for the premiere of his "Whatcha Say" video tomorrow on MTV.com.

Jason Derulo's chart-busting debut single, "Whatcha Say," is a drama-packed, emotional upheaval wrought with the agony of admission. And the video, complete with mascara-streaked tears, stolen affection, and crumbling-to-the-ground confessions, is just as heavy.

Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" video, directed by Bernard Gourley, premieres on MTV this Thursday, October 15, but you can catch Jason Derulo man up right now in this exclusive "Whatcha Say" sneak peek.

If the name Jason Derulo doesn't sound like any hitmaker you know, then you're not one of the 15 million MySpace listeners the 20-year-old R&B chart-crusher claims. And you must not own a radio.

Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" track, produced by J.R Rotem, samples (and by "samples," I mean, "uses the entire refrain of") Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek," but Jason pulled from his own brother's adulterous confessions when he penned the song. While it's unclear how Jason Derulo's brother feels about this kind of publicity, his little brother's a star -- "Whatcha Say" hit the number 1 spot on the iTunes Top 200 Songs at the end of September.

Thanks in part to some label signage by Kara DioGuardi (they rode to the VMAs together) we can expect a debut album from Jason soon enough. Get a hint of Jason Derulo's musical background on his MySpace with "Strobe Light," which you can expect to hear in the MTV movie Turn The Beat Around come 2010.

Watch Jason Derulo with Beluga Heights signee IYAZ on the VMA red carpet, and watch the source of his "Whatcha Say" inspiration -- Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek" video. And watch for more Jason Derulo coming soon!
