about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

And now a post that needs no intro: quite simply, Kevin and Nick wreaking havoc backstage at MSG, running us completely ragged on their Segway getaway mobiles. I snapped these pix while me and the MTV camera crew and producers ran three freaking laps around the west wing of the fifth floor backstage area, and I, dear OJD comrades, am certainly no runner. Tony, head of JB security, was not amused, but we were laughing our faces off. Also Joe shot me the universal sign for the winking thumbs-up gun, but the pic didn't come out (is it not enough that I got you pix of the guys snug as a bug in a rug this morning in their widdle beds?), so now close your eyes and picture it. You so can, right?

OK, so real quick: I shot these photos late yesterday, before Jones Beach opened up its floodgates. The Jonas Brothers were hanging out on the foot of the stage with their friends Honor Society. It was about to rain, and Kevin was giving a fake weather report - and doing a pretty impressive job, too, for someone who (to my knowledge) has never studied meteorology.

Anyway, I couldn't resist taking a pic of Andy activating Michael's alarmingly awesome old-school Reebok Pumps for added Honor Society ankle support. Seriously, those sneakers set my vintage kicks alarm wailing.

I'm outside the Highline Ballroom, in the idling van where the crew's taking a quick coffee break. (FYI, I've had about 4995 times the suggested daily amount). Oh, and sorry, environment -- we owe you one, though we did recycle our soda cans backstage at the JBs' Jones Beach show.

Anyhow, right now, as many fans as the venue holds are currently packed inside at the Jonas Brothers' radio station appearance and performance, celebrating the release of their new album, A Little Bit Longer, which Kevin said people are already lining up for outside of stores, and it doesn't even go on sale til Tuesday! (Is that not THE classic symptom of OJD?)

The JBs are inside, too - if you were anywhere near 16th Street around 3pm, you probably heard a collective bloodcurdling scream (courtesy of an entire city block's worth of teenage girls) when the guys popped out of their ride and were whisked inside. So, about that headline - we spotted presh lil Frankie Jonas walking in with Mama Jonas. (Could that family BE any cuter?)

Kay, next stop, Madison Square Garden -- hopefully once we get there we'll get to chill a bit more with the guys and axe 'em some more of your questions, so keep those rolling in. Livin' the dream, for REALS!

Well, the Ross School show went off without a hitch. And even though they couldn't exactly fire off pyro and foam guns in the auditorium, the school's sunny, wooded location, the plush black backdrop, twinkling lights, and up-close-and-personal stage created its own unique magic.

So the show itself - it's impossible to pick out a favorite crowd-pleaser amongst an entire show of crowd-pleasers, but my personals faves were "BB Good" and "That's Just How We Roll." And "Burnin' Up." Um, and "A Little Bit Longer." Sigh.

In acting classes and stuff, they always talk about "the moment before" -- as in, what were you doing the moment before you started a scene? So here it is: While the crowd upstairs was anxiously awaiting the start of the show, I was downstairs in the JBs' dressing room. I snapped a quick pic of their mic packs and a flower bouquet that looked like it'd been freshly plucked from an English meadow (so tempting to take for my very own..)

Just like in the moments leading up to last night's Jones Beach show, the guys came out of their dressing room and used their last pre-show moments to get pumped by dancing, joking around, and hi-fiving one other -- and everyone in their inner circle. They regrouped for prayer circle, then ran upstairs, waited for the drum cue (which also cued the gaggle of screaming girls), and coolly cruised into "That's Just the Way We Roll."

We're here in the tony, pristine Hamptons (please, can we maybe stay??) with the JBs. They're doing a private event for charity at the Ross School (which looks more like Canyon Ranch and not at all like where I went to school, which looked more like DeGrassi). Anyhow, lots of people were paid big bucks to be here - we spotted Kelly Ripa who was positively ROCKING out at the JB show (stars really are like us!) - to see the guys play and benefit the school's scholarship program.

We all got here just in time to catch a few minutes of sound check. The student volunteers helping out outside the glass auditorium caught it, too -- and freaked out accordingly (you would too if the JBs played a show where you usually sit through school assemblies) but before the JBs started, it was time for more exciting meet-and-greet action. (That cute blond girl is JB fan named Katie, by the way).

We just had to take a pic. I mean, really - note the shirt.
