Ke$ha brings the LOL WUTs in her March Glamour magazine interview.
Ke$ha's not your typical girl next door (um, duh?), but that's why we LOVE her. How many women do you know who proudly rock a résumé with ample experience in beard connoisseurship AND claim to be one of the sleaziest ladies in the world? Exactly.
That's why we were in awe when we saw the "We R Who We R" singer sans glitter in her March Glamour magazine spread. Ke$ha not only looks STUNNING in her barefaced photo (not that it's the first time we've seen her like this), but she even looks sweet and innocent! But don't be fooled by the freckles, y'all: Judging by her interview, girl still has plenty of party pulsing through her veins. Here are the five most OMG quotes from Ke$ha's Glamour interview:
1.) On her struggles with succeeding as a woman in the rock world: "I know that I have balls. I have bigger balls than a lot of the men that I meet. I'm just a ballsy motherf***er. I'm not afraid of pushing boundaries. That's what you have to do to become an icon."
2.) On "Stage Ke$ha" vs. "Real-life Ke$ha": "I'm just very amused by five-year-old humor. Don't get me wrong: I do destroy men on a weekly basis. It's like a hobby. I'm like a praying mantis. They f*** me, and then I eat them. But who isn't amused by a giant, dancing penis? Sometimes when I'm sad, I make my assistant put on the penis outfit and bounce around my house."

Sorry, Hanson's brilliant "Blues Brothers"-inspired "Thinking 'Bout Somethin'," but I have a new favorite music video. Ke$ha recently uploaded the visual accompaniment to her "Sleazy Remix 2.0 Get Sleazier," and there are so, so many things to like about it! I will tell you about them!
The glitter princess chose to sit this video out and instead enlist the help of a couple senior citizens, Pedro from "Napoleon Dynamite," and a gaggle of drag queens. They all come together to lip-synch verses from T.I., Lil Wayne, Andre 3000 and Wiz Khalifa, while a large African-American man with a mohawk won the prized role of Ke$ha. I know, you already like the video and you haven't even seen it.
There isn't too much rhyme or reason to what's going on in "Sleazy Remix 2.0 Get Sleazier," but it's not like you need it -- there's just something about an old man playing chess in a park and ABSOLUTELY SLAYING T.I.'s verse that really makes our hearts flutter. I mean, when's the last time you saw a 65-year-old in a wheelchair mouthing the words "Bitch, my swagger supernatural/Get you pregnant lookin' at you"? (Hopefully never.)

Imagine Ke$ha without the heavy eyeliner, Dev with longer hair and a rapping version of KT Tunstall -- you almost have yourself Chicago-born K.Flay. Oh, and throw in a dual degree in psychology and sociology from Stanford University. I KNOW.
K.Flay fans call her a writer of hip-hop and pop, but where K.Flay really kills it is on the vox: This girl can saaaang. But she can also spit rhymes like a total boss. And probably due in part to that highly pedigreed education of hers, K.Flay's rhymes are intricate and especially thoughtful. On her track "Doctor Don't Know," for example, K.Flay skillfully combines her sense of humor with real-life issues: "Yeah, it's fun to be carefree/Till you're clinging to the edge just barely/I have less sex than a mathlete/Wanna know the deal, don't ask me/Last night I called the doctor and he said to me/'No matter what you try to do you're gonna die eventually.' " You try successfully referencing mathletes and mortality in the same stanza... I rest my case.
Though she's still considered "on the come-up" K.Flay's already shared the stage with some seriously famous peeps: Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and 3OH!3, to name a few. She just came off a tour with Theophilus London, and she's dropping her Eyes Shut EP Jan. 31. Whoever said college degrees don't get you anywhere anymore obviously hasn't done their homework.

Hey, dudes with beards, and also other people! I'm Sam Lansky, pop scholar and longtime fan of the inimitable Kesha Rose Sebert (better known to the listening universe as Ke$ha), and this is my column, Pop Think, where I do stuff like try to convince you that a singer famous for claiming to brush her teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels is actually a musical genius. (But really, she is!)
Detractors have directed shade at Ke$ha for her party-animal persona, liberal use of Auto-Tune and eccentric style, but those criticisms ignore her enormous talent, both as a vocalist and as a songwriter. This week, I'm taking a look at how Ke$ha's artistic craft shines through in her music -- and how her ballads showcase her surprising depth.

I've been following Ke$ha's career for a long time, since the rowdy chanteuse's buzz track "Backstabber" -- which later appeared on her debut album, 2010's Animal -- was used on MTV's show "The Hills" way back in 2008. There was something interesting, exciting and fresh about Ke$ha, a mysterious L.A. girl with a distinctive, tangy voice who lived in a Laurel Canyon mansion with a rock-and-roll pedigree (The Eagles recorded Hotel California there!), had zany stories about puking in Paris Hilton's closet and breaking into Prince's house, and hung out with cool L.A. cats like Katy Perry and Bonnie McKee. (The former, of course, would go on to become a massive global superstar, while Bonnie went on to write several of the best pop songs of the last few years -- clearly, these girls were doing something right.)
Of course, Ke$ha already had a reputation as a promising young talent in the industry; she had been doing backup work for artists like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, and cowrote Australian pop duo The Veronicas' brilliant 2007 single, "This Love." Her early work showed serious promise, from the sharp pop of catchy "Run Devil Run" (eventually made famous by K-pop superstars Girls' Generation) and the winking, self-conscious "Disgusting" (which was ultimately cut by Miranda Cosgrove for her debut album) to lesser-heard demos like the lonely dirge "While You Were Sleeping" and the twangy "I'm the One," which evokes early Shakira. Ke$ha claimed writing credits on all of her songs, a stark contrast to so many of her contemporaries; she seemed incredibly prismatic, an artist who was capable of crafting superb pop melodies while remaining funny, charming and honest in her lyrics. (Of course, she's continued songwriting well into her career, including penning Britney's smash "Till the World Ends.")
That voice was never abandoned, but it has shifted pretty dramatically over time as she recorded her debut and the follow-up with super-hitmakers like Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco. The song that put her on the map, "TiK ToK," set the stage for everything that has followed. It made her an artist famous for singing about living hard, more so than for the vulnerability of which she's undeniably capable. "TiK ToK" celebrates how "the party won't stop"; "We R Who We R" announces that K$ and her friends are "dancing like we're dumb." Then there's that one about the club that's "about to Blow." (Maybe you've heard it.) This has narrowed the road for Ke$ha, I think. Such a heartfelt ballad, like the ones she actually does masterfully, would feel like a surprising directional shift.

+ Ke$ha's been known to get brash and bawdy at times, but she says her next album will resurrect rock and roll and display a different side of her: "I realize that vulnerability can also be a strength. So on my next record, you are going to hear probably a little more of that." (MTV News)

In between putting hairy men's beards in her mouth, Ke$ha somehow found the time to befriend every rapper ever and ask them to appear on a remix of her 2010 hit "Sleazy." In "Sleazy Remix 2.0 Get Sleazier," Ke$ha balls out with Wiz Khalifa, T.I., Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne, who take over most of the song while Ke$ha holds strong on the original hook: "I don't need you or your brand-new Benz/Or your bougey friends."
First up is Wiz who uses his verse to pay homage to his woman and all the expensive ish he can afford to buy her: "I got a wifey at home/And what she wants she could have it." Wiz passes the baton to Andre 3000, who, in his signature speedy flow, walks us down memory lane: "We start out so cute/In our baby pictures/That mama shot for our daddy so he wouldn't forget you." Tip follows suit, and uses his time to make sure the world knows he's a master in the bedroom: "My demeanor is so special/And this d*** is so impressive." Moving on... Lil Wayne brings us home and rhymes over thudding drums: "I'm financially straight/Like a line/I ain't lying." You wear diamonds in your teeth, Weezy, so it's not like we thought you were going bankrupt or anything.
While we're not sure what all the different verses have to do with one another or why this remix is considered "sleazier," we are sure that Ke$ha's Rolodex is stacked, and may possibly rival that of cover queen and BFF to the stars Taylor Swift. Duke it out girls, and let us know who comes out on top.
+ Listen to Ke$ha featuring Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa and Andre 3000 "Sleazy Remix 2.0 Get Sleazier."
