about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

This is gonna be one helluva farewell party.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but here's what we know: Sunday evening, November 16 there will be a huge special filled with big stars and awesome memories of a decade of the pop cultural phenomenon that is TRL.

And if you watched TRL today, you'd know that the first confirmed performer for the big party is none other than bona fide superstar Beyonce (whose new videos "If I Were a Boy" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" got their world premiere on MTV.com yesterday). If you didn't watch, well, now you know, now don't you? As more guests are confirmed for the finale, we'll post the info here on Buzzworthy, so be sure to come back often for the latest updates.

And keep your eyes on TRL on MTV, too. Starting a week from today (Tuesday, October 21), Damien and Lyndsey will begin the countdown to the finale by celebrating some of the most awesome moments that have been part of the show for 10 years. Each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday leading up to the finale, they'll be looking back at the biggest guests, insane moments, killer performances and more.

In the meantime, weigh in on your favorite TRL memories on the TRL message boards and check out some of those amazing TRL live performances, including Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" and Lloyd's "Girls Around the World" after the jump. Read more...

Ever since we first saw Lloyd's mercury-busting "Around the World" video, we've been wanting to hit him with the quintessential (albeit admittedly lame) interview question: boxers or briefs? But thanks to this exclusive clothing-optional photo shoot, we finally have our answer.

And that's not the only thing about this bondage-friendly pictorial that might surprise you. We also learned that Lloyd enjoys playing with duct tape, kicking our photog in the face, nibbling on his neck piece, and wearing his pants on his head.

So check out the rest of our exclusive Lloyd photo sesh and see why the ladies love to love the Lloyd.

+ A new, analogy-filled cover story describes maybe-exes Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus as the "Charles and Di" of Magic Kingdom, and says "middle child Joe [looks like] a prettier version of the actor Peter Gallagher." We wholeheartedly agree on both counts. (Rolling Stone)

+ Bow Wow describes the inherent difficulties he faced in an upcoming Entourage cameo. "I'm playing a character named Charlie who is an up-and-coming comedian," says Bow Wow, "which is different for me, because I'm not really a comedian." True dat. (MTV)

+ Nas' new album, "Untitled," bumps Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III" out of the top-spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The upside of being demoted to #2? Lil Wayne will finally have time to explain that whole "I'm a venereal disease" metaphor. (Billboard)

+ Dr. Dre's Detox is a lot like Rev. Run's Boneless Chicken Dinner: Currently, it's all talk. (Idolator)

+ A country cover of Green Day? Thanks, but no thanks. (Stereogum)

+ Ryan Seacrest is disproportionately excited about Chris Cornell's new song. (Best Week Ever)

+ Ben Folds reveals what was going through his mind after his divorce: "I came out of the courthouse, kissed the ground, and walked straight into the studio." (Webster is my Bitch)

+ As one (female) interviewer quickly discovers, R&B singer Lloyd is "a pretty smooth talker." (Neon Limelight)

+ Amy Winehouse's beehive, tattoos and skintight mini-dress will live on forever...thanks to the enterprising folks over at Madame Tussaud's. (People)

What do all the girls around the world -- or at least the ones in Lloyd's new video -- have in common besides skimpy Day-Glo dominatrix outfits (i.e. Britney Spears during her red/pleather "Martian" phase) and stripper moves? For starters, they all (literally) have stars in their eyes! Good thing Lil Wayne had the foresight to bring his sunglasses.

And you know, it's that commitment to realism (and proper retinal care) that makes Lloyd's "Girls Around The World," so damn entertaining -- though the girls' seemingly endless supply of painted-on bathing suits, Cover Girl foundation and pouty stares don't hurt, either. Also awesome? The video (directed by visionary Hype Williams) bears an uncanny resemblance to Janet Jackson's "Feedback" while the melody plays like an R&B remix of Milli Vanilli's trademark lip-synch, "Girl You Know It's True." (Who knew Lloyd was so eclectic??)

Check out "Girls Around The World," admire the gratuitous use of painted ladies and (nods to both Will Smith's "Girls of the World Ain't Nothing But Trouble" and LL's "Around the Way Girl") allow the Murder Inc. member to take you back... to the future. Then watch Janet do it again.

Kayguesswhat? Don't guess, actually. We'll tell you -- Spankin' New Music Week begins Tuesday, June 10th. This insta-classic MTV tradition kicks off on TRL tomorrow with Lil Wayne and Akon and continues through Friday the 13th, and every day is packed to points that test legal capacity limits with performances, appearances, new videos and surprised by your favorite artists.

Everything you need to know (and more!) is here, but if you're too lazy to click, here's the rundown:

Tuesday, June 10: Lil Wayne co-hosts, Colby O'Donis performs with Akon (natch), and special guests include Tyga, Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel. New videos by Madonna and G-Unit.

Wednesday, June 11: Live performance by Plies featuring Ne-Yo, teensy little Miranda Cosgrove stops by, and Solange Knowles is here. We'll premiere the new Foo Fighters video and show you Lloyd's latest.

Thursday, June 12: If it's your birthday, then consider Ashanti's live performance your present. Plus, Katy Perry and Metro Station are here, as is Busta Rhymes' new video.

Friday, June 13: Shwayze buzzes all over the TRL stage (wait, that sounded gross, but whatever), and Chris Brown and The Game will make a magical but very real appearance.

Also, and in addition to and plus: as a Buzzworthy Preferred Member, you'll get exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, interviews and more. Know this.
