It's time for another round of MTV.com's "What Were U Thinking" fashion re-hashing -- this time Nelly Furtado's in the hot seat! Check the interview below to get Nelly's take on her "expecting" red carpet gown -- a custom-designed piece she stands by, though she's rethinking the hair and jewelry (so glad you're back to brunette, Nels!).
Going back in time to when she was still developing Brand Nelly, Nelly Furtado's wardrobe consisted of fresh-out-the-box Fornarinas and Miss Sixtys. Ah, simpler times! But we love Nelly's more mature looks, especially those studded (though "non-violent") Miu Miu heels.
Check the next clip to hear the story behind Nelly's Juno Awards (the Canadian Grammys) hosting gig. Now this was some serious Brand Nelly development, with that crazy "I'm Like a Bird" costume (somewhat Gaga, no?) and harness -- though doubtful this outfit will make the heirloom pile alongside the one-of-a-kind Armani. But the feathers are still cute...

+ Third Eye Blind are still around, in case you're wondering. And they had a new album coming out, but it leaked all crazy-like on the Internets, forcing them to up the release date and repost the album in its correct format. Messy!! (Tripwire)
+ Here's a clip of Vanessa Hudgens talking about making her new movie Bandslam, though is it just us, or does she seemed completely under the influence of SOMEthing (besides AquaNet fumes)? (People)
+ P.S. in case you didn't already know, we're in love with Nelly Furtado. Here's an interview she did with MTV Tr3s recently, talking about the inspiration behind her brand new Spanish-language album Mi Plan. (Blogamole)
+ Teen trashion show Gossip Girl may just have earned some cool points, with Sonic Youth making a guest appearance in an upcoming episode. Hope they're gettin' paaaaaaaid. (Tripwire)

+ Here's Katy Perry being all cute and whatnot, gushing over how much she lurves P!nk (her show, her outfits), via Twitter of course! Amen, lady friend! Amen. (ICYDK)

The bar has been RAISED and the stakes are now even higher as the list of 2009 MTV VMA performers grows bigger with today's mega announcement that hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and Pop Art princess Lady Gaga will perform!
Jay-Z and Lady Gaga join the already-majah roster of 2009 MTV VMA performers: Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink, and Muse.
Jay-Z appearances aren't ubiquitous happenings -- He's not exactly a hermit, but he's not the kind of guy to show up to the opening of a door and pimp himself out to anyone who'll listen. Why? BECAUSE HE'S JAY-Z. HE DOESN'T HAVE TO. To say that Jay-Z's 2009 VMA performance is going to be the stuff of pop culture legend is like saying Madonna's arms are only somewhat bananas.
Now speaking of bananas, Lady Gaga, who's up for a MIND-REELING nine VMAs, will be busy that night, to say the least. Gaga also said that she's "simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs. In fact, I'm so happy, I could die." Hopefully Lady Gaga was speaking figuratively because she's got a BIG show to put on that night. And after she shot fire out of her breasts at the Much Music Awards in Canada this past June, we expect very big things of her VMA performance! She'd better crawl out of the mouth of a live camel or something. (JK, PETA.)
Also, AWKWARD alert -- she's up against Beyonce (MRS. Jay-Z!) for nine VMAs. Wonder if this will be awkwardsville backstage that night.
ALSO, just added to the growing list of 2009 VMA presenters are Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester and iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove, who is so teensy and adorable.

You can't BUY that kind of good, American entertainment with actual money. Anyway, here's what Alexa wore today.

Thursday, July 30
+ Sweater: J. Crew
+ Jeans: Topshop
+ Heels: Marni
+ Necklace: J. Crew
A great grey V-neck sweater is a wardrobe staple, but you know what also should be a wardrobe staple? This SWEET vampire-inspired grey Topshop sweater designed by German designer Markus Lupfer (Madonna and Gwen Stefani are fans). It's sooo delightfully Rocky Horror/ Twilight-meet-Rolling Stones, and it's $170 at Topshop.com.
And check out Forever 21's black Deco-inspired bib necklace. It's just $6.80, which is like less than one of those huge Jamba Juices.

Put yo hands in the air! On Monday we gave you a sweet, behind-the-scenes look at Nelly Furtado's new Spanish-language single and video, "Manos Al Aire" which means "hands up" for all you non-Latino types. Hands up? There's a theme here, keep reading.
The eclectic Portuguese-Canadian singer -- who is seemingly at home in any genre or style -- calls the dynamic track a love song. But it ain't at all gushy; this is far more about love as a battlefield. In that aforementioned teaser clip, Furtado says the cut is about "surrendering to love, and vulnerability ... and it talks about the dynamic of a relationship and the everyday fight to be a couple."
The track is the first single off her new album, Mi Plan, which is due September 15. It's also her first set sung entirely en Español, and features guests like Julieta Venegas, La Mala Rodriguez and Alex Cuba (don't worry, there's English subtitles in the video so you can play along).
The track has a funky, syncopated rhythm and Nelly seems to be rockin' a bit of a military look sportin' her commando hat and driving a jeep down the block. She's throwin' down fierce a bit here. Wouldn't mess with her if I were you.
So here it is, the MTV video premiere of "Manos Al Aire." For more on the Spanish tip of Nelly Furtado's new vibe you should check out this post on MTV Tr3s.
Nelly Furtado is BACK! Do you KNOW how long I've waited to type those words? Not that Nelly ever fell off hard -- since her 2006 album, Loose, she's collaborated with James Morrison and Flo Rida, started her Nelstar label and signed the hypnotic Fritz Helder And the Phantoms, and she's been busy raising a family and apparently only getting more gorgeous and even more grounded. If she weren't both of those things, you'd almost wanna hate her. But don't hate, appreciate.
Nelly Furtado's next album -- Mi Plan -- is out this September, and it's her fourth album and her first album recorded entirely in Spanish. The first single is "Manos Al Aire," and it's a raw-and-real look at an attempt to stop fighting, lay down your arms and, and reclaim love before it's gone for good.
Go behind-the-scenes of Nelly Furtado's "Manos Al Aire" video shoot, and watch her shoot her new video and stay tuned for the full-length video coming soon.

+ Plastic surgery postergirl Courtney Love is in the studio recording her second solo album with the help of a few of her friends. Does she even remember how to sing? Celebrity Skin was a good Hole album, but we stopped listening right after her lips started looking like Lisa Rinna's. (NME)
+ At last night's CMT Awards, neighborhood sweetheart Taylor Swift took home the coveted Video of the Year award (along with Female Video of the Year) alongside rapper T—Pain (??) for their song "Love Story." Does this girl lose at anything?? We love her! (People)
+ If you're looking for a big break into the heavy metal music video industry, look no further! Glam rock hair band Steel Panther is holding auditions this weekend for their next video, "Community Property." (The Rad Report)
+ Third time's a charm—just ask our leading lady Britney Spears. Is she REALLY getting married to her agent? (Star Magazine)
+ Uh oh. Nelly Furtado and Timbaland are getting sued by a guy who says their song "Do It" steals directly from a song he had already written. Why did it take the guy three years to figure it out?? (NME)
+ New Kids On The Block just cancelled the Australian leg of their world tour, blaming the economic downturn. OK, so maybe Janet Jackson wasn't lying when she said the same thing. (E! Online)
