+ Sad news at this hour: DJ AM was found dead in his NYC apartment this afternoon, apparently of a drug overdose. From everything we've heard, he was a really nice guy all around and will be sorely missed. (MTV News)
+ Country music darling Carrie Underwood reminded us all why we like her so much, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of instruments to her high school alma mater. (People)
+ Pop star Miley Cyrus performed her new single "Party In The U.S.A." to a max-capacity crowd at the TODAY show in NYC this morning, holdin' on to those high notes for dear life (but managing to let go of the stripper pole this time around). (E! Online)
+ Weezer's Rivers Cuomo admitted to Rolling Stone this week that their debut single "Undone - The Sweater Song" was a complete rip-off (intentionally or otherwise) of a Metallica song. (Rolling Stone)
+ For those of us longing for the old Mariah Carey and wondering why she's been peddling s%*# for the last few years, lady is BACK with her new cover of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is." (Neon Limelight)
+ What do you do if you're Lindsay Lohan and a store who loaned you two million dollars worth of jewelry comes a'knockin' for it? You say your safe was STOLEN, of course. HEY! It's a recession!! Gotta be frugal! (The Superficial)
+ Noel Gallagher quit Oasis last night? Via his blog? (NME)

Those of you born after 1989 probably know Oasis in one of three ways:
1) You heard their smash hit, "Wonderwall," at your friend's I Love the 90's theme party.
2) You read (on your iPhone) about their bizarro feud with Jay-Z at Glastonbury
3) You never knew of their existence until earlier this month, when some crazy middle-aged person ran on stage and shoved whatshisface into a giant monitor speaker.
Thing is, no matter how you know Oasis, we have a feeling you're gonna fall hard for their new video, "The Shock of the Lightning." Seriously, there's something in it for everyone! Rock history geeks will dig how the opening shot is a clear shout-out to the the cover of the Rolling Stones' Hot Rocks 1964-1971 album, and old-school Oasis fans will love that the song is as infectiously hooky as, say, "Champagne Supernova."
So check out Oasis' new vid, "Shock of the Lightning," then compare it to the Oasis you've only read about in the ol' history books. Sure, their comeback may not be as flashy or exciting as, say, Britney Spears', but we have a feeling you might be pleasantly surprised! And, more importantly, just interested enough to watch.

+ 50 Cent has written, produced and direct a film called Before I Self-Destruct, based on his album of the same name. "It’s not Purple Rain,” says Fiddy. “But it was inspired by the actual music.” Yeah, we don't know what that means, either, but we're picturing 8 Mile, except without the gratuitous Brittany Murphy sex scene. (Rolling Stone)
+ Friends say Travis Barker is "trying to stay upbeat" about the plane crash and his resulting injuries. (MTV)
+ The Biggie trailer makes us nostalgic for simpler times, when rappers dressed like Al Capone and Diddy stayed on the sidelines. (PopEater)
+ First Jessica Simpson storms the country scene ... now Darius Rucker (of Hootie from Hootie and the Blowfish fame!) has the #1 title on Billboard's Country Albums and Country Songs chart. Has the world gone mad?? (CMT)
