While you guys have been busy prepping your Christmas cookies and turning on your "Out Of Office" replies, we've been hard at work here, discussing the important issues -- the VERY BEST music of 2011! Buzzworthy Managing Editor Tamar Anitai and I got together with a few other very talented (and opinionated) peeps here at MTV to hash out a Top 10 list of the best songs of 2011, but we were far from a unanimous decision. And we recorded all of the table pounding and "I'm not yelling at you" yelling for your viewing pleasure: Check out MTV's Best Songs of 2011 debate!
Coming in at No. 10 was Katy Perry's "Firework." And before you send us hate mail, you need to understand our logic -- Katy's released SIX singles from Teenage Dream, so in a way, they all kind of canceled each other out. But "Firework" felt like the most anthem-y of the bunch, hence it's stronghold on the No. 10 spot. Kanye West's and Jay-Z's repeat-worthy "N****s In Paris" and Foster The People's poppy ode to homicide, "Pumped Up Kicks," helped round out the the bottom five, while Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and Rihanna's "We Found Love" placed in the top five.
But it was Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" and Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" that were battling it out for the top spot, and Adele came out victorious. Both songs are addicting and tons of artist have covered each of them, but at the end of the day year, there was no escaping "Rolling In The Deep." Besides the fact that it's just a great effing song, there's not a lot of arguing with the top-selling album of the year.
+ All this week, MTV will reveal the best artists, songs and movies of the year. Come to MTV News each day to see more big reveals and check out more of MTV's Best of 2011 music, TV, movies, and news coverage.

The year 2011 featured unforgettable MTV musical performances, from big nights that included Beyonce's belly-rubbing big reveal, Jay-Z and Kanye West's surprise performance of "Otis," the five unforgettable minutes of Adele's soulful "Someone Like You" solo at the 2011 MTV VMAs to Odd Future's unhinged utter mayhem at the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards. And then there were the concerts -- Paramore at the "Fueled By Ramen 15th Anniversary Concert: Paramore Live" and Mac Miller's crowd-killing performance of "Knock Knock" at "Mac Miller: Live In Chicago" -- and the intimate MTV-exclusive experiences like Thirty Seconds To Mars near-holy "MTV Unplugged" performance and Jack's Mannequin's Buzzworthy Live rooftop rendition of "Release Me." Looking back at MTV's year in music, there was practically an MTV live performance for every day of the year.
As 2011 draws to a close, the music experts at MTV News, MTV.com and Buzzworthy have narrowed down hundreds of MTV live musical performances from 2011 to a carefully curated list of the 16 best performances. And it's up to you to vote and decide on the best MTV live performance of 2011.

The year 2011 is quickly, sadly, drawing to a close. Except it's not sad! We're moving ahead with the speed of an iPhone 4S! And before you let separation anxiety and fear of change get the best of you -- no one looks adorable pouting in a party hat -- let's take a moment to reflect on the year in pop music. Being MTV Buzzworthy, the home of all things pop, we took an exhausting, in-depth look the biggest trends in pop music in 2011. It wasn't an easy job, but... it's actually our job! So, here are the songs, sounds and stars who were all over pop music in 2011.
EPIC COVERS
+ Everyone covered and/or remixed "Marvin's Room": Drake did it first, but Chris Brown remixed it, Teyana Taylor covered it, and R&B singer Sammie covered it. Paula DeAnda put out "I Can Do Better," and even CODY SIMPSON put his spin on "Marvin's Room" with "Evenings In London." But no one did it better than JoJo. Even Drake agreed.
+ Everyone covered Lil Wayne's “How to Love”: Justin Bieber made an acoustic remix of "How To Love", Demi Lovato covered "How To Love" on VH1's Top 20 Live, pop solo singer Tinashe and R&B singer Brandon Hines (who is INCREDIBLE, btw) all covered Weezy's heartbreaker.
+ Taylor Swift covered EVERYONE: Over the course of her seemingly endless "Speak Now" tour, Taylor covered Britney, T.I.'s "Live Your Life," Eminem, Nelly, Usher, Bieber, Shawn Colvin, Jimmy Eat World, Switchfoot, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Uncle Kracker (!!!) and even Bryan Adams, often bringing out artists as surprise guests.
EPIC VIDEOS
+ Pop stars put out videos like MACHINES: Beyonce put out SIX official videos this year! Eight if you count her Live At Roseland DVD performance videos. Rihanna and Pitbull put out five videos, six if you count "Fly" with Nicki Minaj. Britney put out four videos, Lady Gaga put out FOUR videos (probably five, since "Marry The Night" is due out any minute, and six if you count her "The Lady Is A Tramp" duet with Tony Bennett, Bruno Mars released four videos, and Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj put out three videos each.
+ Everyone made SUPER dramatic, cinematic videos: Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" video featured a heartbreaking ending we didn't see coming, Dr. Dre's "I Need A Doctor" video featured a car crash, death and a return to life, Britney's "Criminal" video was shot like a modern-day Bonnie & Clyde, and Rihanna's "We Found Love" terrified us in a very Darren Aronofsky kind of way.
EPIC TOURS
+ 30 Seconds To Mars played everywhere: Seriously, these guys played 135 shows in 2011 alone. By the time December 7 rolls around, they'll set a world record for most shows played within a single album cycle. Top that.
+ Britney Spears lap-danced everyone: Every seat in the house on Britney's "Femme Fatale" tour is a good seat, but one seat in particular was the best seat in the house. The chair (actually, it's a bed?) Britney put centerstage, upon which very special guests were treated to a lap dance. Very lucky fans got a lap dance from Britney, and so did some celebrity VIPs: Britney gave Joe Jonas a lap dance, Jason Trawick got a special ride, and DJ Pauly D enjoyed a lap dance from Britney too.
EVERYTHING GOT EMO AND/OR OKAY
+ Hip-hop got introspective: For every swag-brag record there were real-talk, real-problems introspective tracks, like Jay-Z and Kanye West's “Welcome To The Jungle” (and most of Watch The Throne, for that matter), Eminem/ Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," and Lil Wayne's "How To Love," plus sad songs by Drake (most tracks, but especially "Doing It Wrong"), Kid Cudi's 2 Be Continuum's navel-gazey "No One Believes Me," and Lupe Fiasco's conscious "Words I Never Said."
+ Pop music got introspective: I'm okay, you're okay, we're all okay, okay? was a recurrent theme in pop music, from Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to Demi Lovato's epic "Skyscraper" to Pink's "F****** Perfect" reminded us that we all have insecurities, and that we're all perfect the way we are.

It's Tuesday! Time for another round of 5 Must-Hear Pop Songs for the Week!
And as if you couldn't tell from the photo below, it's another all-girl affair this week! Shocking.
This week's roundup includes one good girl gone bad, one girl group member gone solo and one girl from down under about to try and break America. Let's go-o-o!

1.) Rihanna, "We Found Love"
It's almost October, and in the spirit of the season... it's time for a new Rihanna single! (What, were you expecting something spookier? It's just RiRi!) "We Found Love" is the lead single from the Bajan beauty's sixth studio album (her seventh overall, continuing the trend of releasing a new album from the singer every year since 2005 -- girl just won't quit!). With production credits by Scottish dance aficionado Calvin Harris, RiRi's newest ri-lease sees her moving even further away from the grim and gritty days of Rated R, instead taking the dance-pop sound of LOUD and cranking it up to 11 for her most house-inspired, Ibiza-ready release to date.
"Yellow diamonds in the light, and we're standing side by side," she whimsically swoons above Harris' relentless synth beats. That's right--this is Ri the disco diva, not the dirrty girl of "Hard." All sweet, no sass here!
She's been a good girl gone bad, went Rated R, then decided to brighten things up and get LOUD. What's next for Ri and her faithful Navy? As always, we'll just have to wait and see. That Rihanna reign just won't let up! + LISTEN TO RIHANNA, "WE FOUND LOVE"
2.) Sunday Girl, "Love U More"
Though she's released several singles over the past two years, Sunday Girl (otherwise known as Jade Williams) is still a fresh face in the UK pop scene. With her unique brand of sweetly cooed lush pop tunes, including "Four Floors" and "Stop Hey!" along with highly stylized visuals that look more like Gucci ad campaigns than music videos, the 24-year-old singer has maintained a certain degree of chic indie-pop mystique -- floating just below the mainstream radar despite releasing nothing but supreme pop gems.
"Love U More," Sunday Girl's latest release due out later this fall in the UK, is a gorgeous cover of the 1992 Sunscreem dance hit, a song which has gone on to be covered by basically everyone ever, from Steps to Basshunter.
"You can turn wine into water, turn sadness into laughter/But you know you can never make me love you more," she dreamily croons. The sparkling, trance-heavy production and dreamy vocal delivery makes Williams' rendition the most exciting interpretation of the song to date -- yet another indication of exciting things to come from the gorgeous UK songstress. + LISTEN TO SUNDAY GIRL, "LOVE U MORE"

When they team up, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull produce anthemic, stadium-size pop records. Latest case in point: their new jam "I Like How It Feels." Produced by Lady Gaga's pal and go-to studio man RedOne, the song is backed by a simple yet strong track masterfully crafted for club success. In his sexy accent-tinged voice, Enrique claims, "It's my time/I can do what I like/For the price of a smile/I got a ticket to ride." He then goes on to repeat (many times) the song's overarching message: "You know I like how it feels." And then, there is whistling!
Pitbull chimes in toward the end, and after a close listen, it's clear Pit is mainly concerned with getting those dolla dolla bills: "What y'all consider the best, I consider mediocre/I want my bank account like Carter Slim's, or at least a mini-Oprah." We have a sneaky suspicion Pitbull can totes get to mini-Oprah status once this song reaches No. 1. He can thank the whistling!
“I Like How It Feels” can be found on the upcoming repackaged version of Iglesias’ album Euphoria, due out in November.

Pitbull, Ne-Yo and Nayer brought the club to the Nokia Theatre L.A. tonight with their dynamic performance of "Give Me Everything" at the 2011 VMAs. With the help of tons of sexy lady dancers dressed in body suits, Pitbull's red pants, Ne-Yo's sunglasses, and Nayer's VERY BRAVE nude one-piece (with the exception of a couple very strategically placed flowers), "Give Me Everything" got the whole theatre up on their feet. But honestly, how can you not get on your feet for that song? It's addicting!
Pitbull and Ne-Yo walked down the VMA runway together as a troupe of dancing ladies followed them, lighting up the audience. The whole theatre was fist pumping as "Give Me Everything" came to a close, while green lasers spanned the entire audience, spy movie style. Everyone was on their feet as Nayer joined Pitbull and Ne-Yo on the runway and the trio closed out the club jam without a hair out of place. In other words, they gave us EVERYTHING TONIGHT!!!

Pitbull goes by Mr. Worldwide, and at this point he's earned his nickname. His VMA-nominated single, "Give Me Everything," from his US-chart-topping Planet Pit album, is a monster hit in both the U.S. and U.K. and has earned him enough international gold and platinum to fill a 747. (Normally I'd say G6, but they're actually not that large, though I'm confident Pit could afford one with his Seacrest money.) Oh yeah. And that's not even counting the mind-reeling number of units his Rebelution album sold.
But in the few minutes I spent interviewing Pitbull backstage during VMA rehearsals, he wasted no time making me feel like the only living girl in the world, if I may take the liberty of quoting Rihanna. You guys, the man is slicker than black ice. He is hypnotically enamoring without any of the smarm and all of the charm. And that's not just good stage presence. Dude has a gift.

Pitbull's fully and undeniably pretty dominating. Everything. He's crushing charts and airwaves (oh yeah and the Internet, at over 3 million downloads and rising) right now with his unstoppably huge hit, "Give Me Everything," and at this point he's officially earned his nickname, Mr. Worldwide. To watch Pitbull in action is to watch a man on top of his game and on top of the world. But when Pitbull steps onto the VMA stage to perform "Give Me Everything" this Sunday night, he's gonna have the world at his feet. As well as a couple of seriously sexy (and highly flexible) dancers.
While I was lucky enough to sit in on Pitbull's VMA rehearsal (having had "Give Me Everything" stuck on repeat in my head since March, I was totally fine with the opportunity to hear it live several times in rehearsal) I can't give away too much of what's going to happen VMA night other than to confirm that the golden-voiced Ne-Yo and the seriously sexy newcomer Nayer will join him and that the performance will be a full-blown spectacle.
