about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

Ronnie, Duke, Matt, Joey and Jon of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (who were almost called Umbrella Ninjas) are so deadpan sarcastic, that it's really tough to know how much of their Playlibs to take seriously.

For instance, it's totally plausible that they'd want Slash to rip guitar solos on their graves, but are they really as moved by Coldplay as they claim to be? Are they attracted to sumo wrestlers? And, did they really braid their hair and wear backwards pants in middle school? Um ... honestly, I have no idea.

The wisecracking Florida five-piece dropped by MTV the other day to pick up Ronnie's hairbrush, and while they were here, we made them fill in the blanks for us. Watch and learn which videos inspire, arouse and embarrass this band, which recently dropped a three-track acoustic EP titled Shock Session.

According to Nathan Leone, lead singer of Madina Lake, the Chicago band's upcoming second album, Attics To Eden, is a meditation on "different ways to find psychological refuge in a world that is moving faster than ever."

Produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, All Time Low), the latest chapter in the Madina Lake story is due out May 5. But you're gonna get your first taste right now.

Lead single "Never Take Us Alive" is a synth-driven rock rampage with a raging twilight video set in a nightmare backyard playground. The murky world is populated with creepy tweens dressed as boxers, firefighters and cops on a mission to bust the bad guys that make the grown-up world so ugly. Kinda like a twisted, rabid Catcher In The Rye. Madina Lake stand in the center of the action and tear it to shreds with blistering riffs and blood-curdling screams.

Watch "Never Take Us Alive" and see all your worst dreams come true.

If you happen to spot Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' Ronnie Winter out and about in NYC today, and his usually well-groomed mane looks a little disheveled, it's because he left his hairbrush (that's the actual specimen above) in the green room of the photo studio here at MTV HQ. Ronnie, if you need that sucker back give MTV a ringyding

+ Watch RJA's latest video, "You Better Pray," preview their upcoming album, Lonely Road, check out some old-school RJA photos, and stay tuned for the well-groomed results of today's photo shoot.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are a buncha well-dressed Jacksonville, Fla. longhairs who, in their latest video, are striking back on behalf of the beat-down high school art kids. The animation heavy video for "You Better Pray" centers around the plight of a gawky back-of-the-class sketchpad type of dude (played by some tall studly emo guy) who doodles his way into and out of teenage hell. His drawings come to life, scorching cheerleaders with dragon fire and taking out popular kids with elephant farts. Sweet, sweet justice.

Watch the video for the first single from the band's upcoming (February?) release, Lonely Road, in this very blog post. Definitely stick around for the sexy librarian finale.
