+ A toy company has just introduced the Katy Perry doll! Sadly, critics lament that the foxy figurine (designed by Jason Wu and priced at a semi-affordable $49.99) "looks nothing like Katy Perry, or even Zooey Deschanel." (Rolling Stone)

+ Janet Jackson was hospitalized yesterday due to "unspecified causes." Jackson, who is currently in Montreal on her RockWitchu tour, "got suddenly ill during the sound check" and had to be rushed to the hospital. (MTV News)

+ Good thing Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins isn't the jealous type. The super-producer is all about Brandy's new album -- and totally over that LP she dropped with his work nemesis, Timbaland. (Rap-Up)

It's no secret that Miss Jackson and her label, Island Def Jam Records, have had their differences. Less than three months ago, Janet put Def Jam on blast for inadequately promoting her latest album, Discipline. (Def Jam fired back, claiming they hadn't "experienced the results we would have liked with this new album.")

And since we all know Janet's not afraid to get nasty, we weren't surprised to hear that the 42-year-old singer had decided to pull the plug.

"At [Janet's] request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship," Jackson's publicist said in a statement. "Now more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album, Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system."

According to her friend (and producer) Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Janet did the right thing.

"We didn’t get the support from the record company,” Jerkins (a.k.a. the man behind "Feedback" and "Luv") told Rap-Up.com. “[Janet] just didn’t get her just due as an artist of that magnitude."

Meanwhile, Jackson's fans will be happy to know that today's announcement will have no foreseeable effect on her RockWitchu tour. After 20 years in the biz, it's gonna take a whole lot more than a dropped label to keep Planet Janet from shaking her groove thang all over North America ...
