We've been obsessed with Far East Movement since they came out with their infectious "Like A G6" in 2010. And "Jello," their recent collabo with Rye Rye, is hitting us just as hard. (We're also pretty sure it's Bill Cosby-approved!)
As is the case with most of our favorite videos, "Jello" is sporting a dual plotline. The first is your tried-and-true "I'm partying in a cool room with flashing lights and flowing booze" moment. As they chill out, drink and dance, FEM and Rye Rye get crunk in what looks like President Obama's underground safety bunker (#swag). Oh, and they wear really long gold chains, too. Obviously.
While these festivities are taking place, there's a stuffy gala with a bunch of snobs happening upstairs, geared toward banning low-frequency oscillating woofers (referring to the "Dirty Bass" sound that Far East Movement is known for). Of course FEM and Rye Rye disguise themselves and sneak into the fund-raiser, and before long they've forced all the old, boring people sitting in suits to get up, dance on tables, drink and hook up with each other. (We're pretty sure they're going to cancel that fund-raising initiative -- club music makes everything better!)
Not only has Far East Movement and Rye Rye improved our lives by gifting us this song, they've also improved the lives of about 70 crotchety people in need of a little fun. Thanks again, Far East Movement!

Last year the entire universe went effing nuts for Far East Movement's infectious club banger "Like A G6," and we have a sneaking suspicion that FEM's new song "Jello" featuring Rye Rye will induce the same effect. Slated to appear on their forthcoming album, Dirty Bass, the FEM boys stick closely to what they're best at: making INSANELY catchy music.
"Jello" is set to a hypnotic, synth-laden track, which serves as the perfect backdrop for Far East Movement's unique brand of rhymes: "We downtown L.A., ghetto/She got an ass on her, pillow/Girl shake that A, Jello.../Now we at the bar, granola/Hit the Henny with the Cherrytree cola."
Most of you are probably thinking that in this case "Jello" refers to the colorful, gelatinous and oftentimes nauseating questionable snack item. HOWEVER, we'd like to offer an alternative definition: The Far East Movement boys are probably using the word jello to reference a derriere. A rump. A badonkadonk. Junk in the trunk, etc. But in Rye Rye's case, we actually think that "Jello" may refer to her beverage of choice because she repeats this phrase about 96 million times: "Pour it out/Tip it up/Keep that drink up in my cup."
Club jams and double entendres. Thanks again, Far East Movement!

Robyn is literally perfect, which means her music is literally perfect. (Or "litchrly" if you're a Rachel Zoe fan.) So when we heard Baltimore rapper-singer and student of M.I.A. Rye Rye was going to take a stab at reinterpreting Robyn's masterpiece "Be Mine" (originally released in 2005), we thought about raising an eyebrow. But when we heard that Queen Robyn sanctioned this endeavor and better yet, would accompany Rye Rye by singing her classic hook, we repressed a brow raise. Because what was once an uptempo pop jam ideal for a calorie-burning workout has been transformed into a slowed-down, chilled-out, prime for sipping-(virgin)-Margaritas-on-a-roof type of record.
In the brand-new video, the girls are seen swagging down the graffiti-covered streets of L.A. Decked out in a multicolored spandex bodysuit (cause what else would she wear?) Robyn trades in her signature sprightly super-heroic dancing for some pensive swaying. Rye Rye, sporting some seriously bold makeup choices, confirms her place as everyone's new favorite femcee. (And PLEASE, out with that Go! Pop! Bang! album already!!) Her flip, perfectly bratty rhymes serve as a perfect complement to Robyn's sultry and seductive chorus. Plus, Rye Rye's working what the patented Jay-Z "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" dance move, so that's another win.

Rye Rye is radical. Ryeisha Berrain -- the Baltimore she-rapper and remix-master who looks like Teyana Taylor trick-or-treating as Santigold -- has been blowing minds with her frantic freak-out MC style since she was 16. Nevermind that she's only 18, now. Rye Rye's club rhythms, schoolyard rhymes and unstoppable energy won her a spot on the Fast And The Furious soundtrack and instant notice from M.I.A., who took the Technicolor young talent under her wing and on the road. The two turned out to be a perfect match, and Rye Rye was soon the first artist to be signed to M.I.A.'s personal label, N.E.E.T.
In addition to releasing, distributing, and creating the artwork for Rye Rye's upcoming debut album, M.I.A. has given the young artist personal support and attention above and beyond the call of duty. On the topic of M.I.A.'s newborn baby, Ikyhd, Rye Rye tells Rap-Up.com, "I think she’ll be a fun parent. I’m just thinking about how she acts with me. She act like I’m her child sometimes." Lucky Rye Rye.
With M.I.A. at her back, this electric new lady MC can't lose. Listen to Rye Rye's lead single, "Bang," featuring M.I.A. on the mic and Blaqstarr on the knobs.
Also! In the video below, FADER Magazine catches up with Rye Rye and a very pregnant M.I.A. in the studio, sneaking an exclusive peek at the record in progress. Watch!
