about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

While it's well-documented that Taylor Swift's songs are rooted in personal experiences, part of Swift's appeal is her ability to translate the intimate details of her life into witty, memorable lyrical turns of phrase.

With that in mind, it should come as no great shock that Taylor Swift will soon be creating a line of greeting cards.

Swift, who will be teaming up with American Greetings Corp. on the cards, said via a press release, "My idea of a great song is a song that says how I feel better than I could. I feel the same way about greeting cards."

Look for Swift's line of cards in the "Getting Over A Break Up," section (amongst other places) of your local greeting card emporium next spring.

Taylor Swift's silver-spangled guitar is a signature of the Country Music Award history-maker.

... But, the OUTRAGEOUSLY adorned microphone Bill Kaulitz used during Tokio Hotel's MTV Europe Music Awards last week was over-the-top, even by Lil Jon standards.

Bill Kaulitz's mic, which says "Humanoid," was custom made (obviously), by British designers CrystalRoc, who whipped up two different knuckle duster mics for Bill, using platinum, crystal, and black diamonds for the recession-blind price of about £5000 each -- which comes to about $8,270 or €5,564. Are mics the new neckpieces?

Watch Tokio Hotel perform "World Behind My Wall" from the 2009 MTV Europe Awards to see the fancy mic in action, and decide whose bling is better -- Taylor and her silver guitar or Bill and his diamond mic.

While we're wrist deep into a pint of ice cream, napping off the working week, Taylor Swift will be GRINDING. Girl is pulling double duty at Saturday Night Live this week as both host and musical guest.

It's been quite a year for Taylor. She and the writers will have plenty of material to mine for sketches. It sounds like she's down for whatever, so here's 5 skits we'd love to see happen.

Kevin Jonas! He's a year older! The senior member of the Jonas Brothers singing and rocking and "Bounce"-ing ensemble has turned 22, and we're all here to say, mazel tov, homie!

Nick and Joe stay mugging for the cameras and breaking young girls' hearts and having said young girls write tunes about them (coughTaylorSwiftcough... and is that a Demi Lovato rumor we're hearing?), but Kevin Jonas will always be the big dude behind the dudes.

So here's to you, amigo. Many happy returns to you and your wifey-to-be.

We Were Once A Fairytale, a short film collaboration between Kanye West and Spike Jonze, only recently came out (you can cop it on iTunes), but we're already starting to get some bonus materials.

Below, in the viral video of some behind-the-scenes action, Spike Jonze gets increasingly peeved at a text-addicted Kanye West, who's spending more time on his smart phone than listening to his director. Kanye gets slapped, and a nation of Taylor Swift fans rejoice. (Note -- We can all agree that violence is not okay, right? And that this video's just a joke? And that Kanye himself is probably in on it?)

Behind the Scenes With Kanye from We Love You So on Vimeo.

Welcome to Bummertown, population: Kanye West. How does the world not love him, let us count the ways.

Ever since the "Heartless" one interrupted teen queen Taylor Swift's moment of VMA glory he's really caught a bad one. First, his highly anticipated (if hard to imagine going off without a hitch) tour with Lady Gaga got canceled (we investigate like 60 Minutes here).

Then, after some erratic behavior had been reported here and there (and on, um... TMZ), Kanye skipped out on the BET Awards. The show, which was taped this past weekend, would've seemed like a logical place to find West, who was nominated for nine awards, but he was a no-show.

Now, in the wake of rumors that Yeezy has jetted off to India to find himself, dude's clothing line has been discontinued. His Pastelle line will apparently never see the light of day. (Or, it'll just haunt some dusty TJ Maxx racks.) Here's hoping for happier days for the dude. Despite what you might think of his personality/public displays of speech-making, he's still a much-needed voice out there in pop.

T-Swiz is going back to school. In this lilting, articulate, lovely little jam, Taylor Swift sings about the weight of the world that teenagers carry on their shoulders during those formative years.

Let's just get this out of the way now shall we? Yes, I fully expected (hoped?) Kanye was gonna burst on camera here at some point, grab the guitar and say, "TAYLOR, I'MMA LET YOU FINISH, BUT SIXTEEN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FORMATIVE YEAR EVER." Rimshot.

With that obligatory joke out of the way, let's just enjoy this rather enjoyable tune from the album that just keeps on giving, Fearless. It's a more dreamy look for Taylor, as opposed to the goofy, teen-rom-com-style "You Belong With Me." And yes, that's really Taylor's real-life best friend, Abigail in the video.

The Boys Like Girls boys took a breather from MTV studio run-arounds to answer BLG questions from you, lovely Buzzworthy readers!

Watch Part 1 of Boys Like Girls' Qa&A sesh, in which Martin Johnson -- who does not unleash crazy sex eyes at all times, it turns out -- along with Bryan, John and Paul (hi Paul!!) explain why they're not quite Lil Wayne-level big. At least not yet. They also break down their favorite tracks off their new album, Love Drunk.

Boys Like Girls also address the dangers of Google images and laments the awkward mushroom cuts of its last MTV visit. Last but not least, Martin explains why he's a "huge, huge, huge" (pretty huge) Taylor Swift fan, and talks her collabo on the group's "Two Is Better Than One" track.

And don't miss Part 2 of Boys Like Girls' Buzzworthy fan interview, coming up!

I hope you ordered heavy-on-the-"whoas," with extra Ryan Cabrera hair, because that's what's on the menu in Push Play's new video, "Midnight Romeo." For the Long Island group's upcoming Found album, lead singer CJ Baran offers... well, I'm not going to call it a "serenade," despite the "Midnight Romeo" title. Why? "Tonight your dinner's free; what's in it for me?" hardly qualifies as "sweet nothings." By the way, Push Play's touring with Jessie James throughout October, so hopefully she'll keep 'em in line.

"Midnight Romeo" takes the garage band, and moves it up to the attic -- an attic that houses none other than Emily Osment, a.k.a. Lilly Truscott from Hannah Montana. The video's also directed by Roman White, who's behind Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me," (... oh yeah, that video), as well as some Carrie Underwood classics like "Before He Cheats." White also directed Osment's video for her upcoming All The Right Wrongs album.

I took Buzzworthy on the road the other night -- and by "on the road," I mean 11 blocks south -- to the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show at New York Fashion Week, where I caught up with Gabe Saporta on the red carpet (which he walked with Kara DioGuardi!)

We chatted about the VMAs, and invariably, about Taylor Swift and Kanye's big interruption. Here's what Gabe had to say about Kanye Gate -- "Kanye's crazy! It means he likes you!" and being Team Taylor. (And about looking TOTALLY Don Draper at the VMAs.)
