The year 2011 is quickly, sadly, drawing to a close. Except it's not sad! We're moving ahead with the speed of an iPhone 4S! And before you let separation anxiety and fear of change get the best of you -- no one looks adorable pouting in a party hat -- let's take a moment to reflect on the year in pop music. Being MTV Buzzworthy, the home of all things pop, we took an exhausting, in-depth look the biggest trends in pop music in 2011. It wasn't an easy job, but... it's actually our job! So, here are the songs, sounds and stars who were all over pop music in 2011.
EPIC COVERS
+ Everyone covered and/or remixed "Marvin's Room": Drake did it first, but Chris Brown remixed it, Teyana Taylor covered it, and R&B singer Sammie covered it. Paula DeAnda put out "I Can Do Better," and even CODY SIMPSON put his spin on "Marvin's Room" with "Evenings In London." But no one did it better than JoJo. Even Drake agreed.
+ Everyone covered Lil Wayne's “How to Love”: Justin Bieber made an acoustic remix of "How To Love", Demi Lovato covered "How To Love" on VH1's Top 20 Live, pop solo singer Tinashe and R&B singer Brandon Hines (who is INCREDIBLE, btw) all covered Weezy's heartbreaker.
+ Taylor Swift covered EVERYONE: Over the course of her seemingly endless "Speak Now" tour, Taylor covered Britney, T.I.'s "Live Your Life," Eminem, Nelly, Usher, Bieber, Shawn Colvin, Jimmy Eat World, Switchfoot, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Uncle Kracker (!!!) and even Bryan Adams, often bringing out artists as surprise guests.
EPIC VIDEOS
+ Pop stars put out videos like MACHINES: Beyonce put out SIX official videos this year! Eight if you count her Live At Roseland DVD performance videos. Rihanna and Pitbull put out five videos, six if you count "Fly" with Nicki Minaj. Britney put out four videos, Lady Gaga put out FOUR videos (probably five, since "Marry The Night" is due out any minute, and six if you count her "The Lady Is A Tramp" duet with Tony Bennett, Bruno Mars released four videos, and Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj put out three videos each.
+ Everyone made SUPER dramatic, cinematic videos: Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" video featured a heartbreaking ending we didn't see coming, Dr. Dre's "I Need A Doctor" video featured a car crash, death and a return to life, Britney's "Criminal" video was shot like a modern-day Bonnie & Clyde, and Rihanna's "We Found Love" terrified us in a very Darren Aronofsky kind of way.
EPIC TOURS
+ 30 Seconds To Mars played everywhere: Seriously, these guys played 135 shows in 2011 alone. By the time December 7 rolls around, they'll set a world record for most shows played within a single album cycle. Top that.
+ Britney Spears lap-danced everyone: Every seat in the house on Britney's "Femme Fatale" tour is a good seat, but one seat in particular was the best seat in the house. The chair (actually, it's a bed?) Britney put centerstage, upon which very special guests were treated to a lap dance. Very lucky fans got a lap dance from Britney, and so did some celebrity VIPs: Britney gave Joe Jonas a lap dance, Jason Trawick got a special ride, and DJ Pauly D enjoyed a lap dance from Britney too.
EVERYTHING GOT EMO AND/OR OKAY
+ Hip-hop got introspective: For every swag-brag record there were real-talk, real-problems introspective tracks, like Jay-Z and Kanye West's “Welcome To The Jungle” (and most of Watch The Throne, for that matter), Eminem/ Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," and Lil Wayne's "How To Love," plus sad songs by Drake (most tracks, but especially "Doing It Wrong"), Kid Cudi's 2 Be Continuum's navel-gazey "No One Believes Me," and Lupe Fiasco's conscious "Words I Never Said."
+ Pop music got introspective: I'm okay, you're okay, we're all okay, okay? was a recurrent theme in pop music, from Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to Demi Lovato's epic "Skyscraper" to Pink's "F****** Perfect" reminded us that we all have insecurities, and that we're all perfect the way we are.

+ Move over "Drake's Knee's" Twitter! Time to make some room for "Teyana's Mustache," another fake Twitter account named after a celeb's body part. What's next?? "PammiesBoobays?" (Twitter)
+ Kings of Leon tore up the Today show stage this past Friday at NYC's Rockefeller Center. These guys are sooooo hot and sound so GOOD!! I need to go towel off now, if you'll excuse me. (The Rad Report)
+ Gotta scroll down a bit after you click, but here's a really cute interview with Demi Lovato, who topped the Billboard charts last week at #1 with her sophomore album "Here We Go Again." Congrats, Demi! (Katie & Karleigh)
+ This one is bringing the Monday LOLz: Whitney Houston's Good Morning America performance next month will be taped instead of sung live because Ms. Houston is "not a morning person." Is that what we're calling it these days? (PopCrunch)
+ No Doubt's Gwen Stefani and Paramore's Hayley Williams teamed up in concert together in Irvine, CA at what was at the least an unforgettable show. (Neon Limelight)
+ Remember when Rihanna almost got in trouble for giving a tattoo to her tattoo artist? Well, now Chris Brown is doing the same crap. (Singersroom Celebs)
+ Rocker Dave Grohl got a street named after him in his hometown of Warren, OH. (NME)
Rye Rye is radical. Ryeisha Berrain -- the Baltimore she-rapper and remix-master who looks like Teyana Taylor trick-or-treating as Santigold -- has been blowing minds with her frantic freak-out MC style since she was 16. Nevermind that she's only 18, now. Rye Rye's club rhythms, schoolyard rhymes and unstoppable energy won her a spot on the Fast And The Furious soundtrack and instant notice from M.I.A., who took the Technicolor young talent under her wing and on the road. The two turned out to be a perfect match, and Rye Rye was soon the first artist to be signed to M.I.A.'s personal label, N.E.E.T.
In addition to releasing, distributing, and creating the artwork for Rye Rye's upcoming debut album, M.I.A. has given the young artist personal support and attention above and beyond the call of duty. On the topic of M.I.A.'s newborn baby, Ikyhd, Rye Rye tells Rap-Up.com, "I think she’ll be a fun parent. I’m just thinking about how she acts with me. She act like I’m her child sometimes." Lucky Rye Rye.
With M.I.A. at her back, this electric new lady MC can't lose. Listen to Rye Rye's lead single, "Bang," featuring M.I.A. on the mic and Blaqstarr on the knobs.
Also! In the video below, FADER Magazine catches up with Rye Rye and a very pregnant M.I.A. in the studio, sneaking an exclusive peek at the record in progress. Watch!

Wanna own a piece of Katy Perry? Stupid question. Naturally you do.
So go scrounge up at least $570 (and how you do that is, of course, your business), and log on to eBay to bid on the REDONK Hello Kitty corset Katy Perry wore JUST last night to the Brit Awards, where she won Best International Female and then promptly barfed. No guarantees that there isn't a little vommy residue on the corset -- which was made by The Blonds (check out the Blonds-designed piece I saw Teyana Taylor in the other week!) -- but that just makes it more special, right? Proceeds benefit The Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries. Bonus: Free shipping, kitties!

+ UPDATE: Check out video from Richie Rich's show below, courtesy of Sarah Conley! And yes, that IS Pam Anderson at the end...
Oh hai! So, I was illin' like a villain all day, but I got an invite to Richie Rich's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show -- Richie Rich is half of what was (weep! RIP!) Heatherette, who were part of the original New York club kids when you were still in diapers, and they made Teyana Taylor's dress for her Super Sweet 16 debut, and they were the also the reason (besides Dolly Parton) that sequins and rhinestones were invented -- and realized I'd be a complete idiot to pass that up. (For reference, that's Richie in the photo all the way at the bottom, me [hi!], and Traver Rains of Heatherette at the Heatherette for MAC event last year.)
So I rallied for the cause and headed up to the Waldorf-Astoria (ridick and kinda gross), where a prissy lady in the lobby raised a brow when I walked by in my vintage '80s bicycle sweater. Um, apparently she hadn't noticed the drag queen deluge pouring in. It was total and absolute gayhem, which is a super-fun term I just made up! Anyway, the Richie Rich show was '90s amazing!
Even though it was his Fall '09 line, that didn't stop him from sending a model down the runway in a teensy weeny animal print bikini. Or sending Aubrey O'Day out in a hot pink frock. (And if you've been keeping up with Fashion Week, neons are back back back! Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors and Narciso, oh my! Not to mention, the Stephen Sprouse windows lighting up the Louis Vuitton store on Fifth Ave... ) Or opening the show with a live performance by Kat DeLuna! Or closing the show with Pamela Anderson in a gold lamé thong after Amanda Lepore ripped the runway. Yes. That happened. Anyway, the Richie Rich touch always = the most fashion fun in the world, so thanks, Richie (indirectly at least) for having me! Oh yeah, and I met Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons (and he was on MADE -- the one where Michelle becomes a bassist) before the show started, and he was a gorgeous doll.
And for you keeping track on the Buzzworthy Twitter, here's a shot of Teyana Taylor, who was there in a bad-ass sequined majorette hat! (@Sk8Boardsqueez -- sorry, I was wrong -- when she first walked by I thought it was a little porkpie hat, but it was definitely no T-Pain hat!) She was so excited when I told her MTV fans on Twitter were excited that she was there in a suh-weet hat, and she was rocking the Wonder Woman hair again like she was at the MAC x Hello Kitty event the other week. And below that, though it's self-explanatory, that's Ice-T and wife Coco, who also attended the show. Coco was wearing a lot of clothes! For her.
Anyway, I'm the sure The Cut blog will have pix of Richie Rich's show. The Cut has been killing it, BTW -- they even got a severe close-up of Kanye's nub at the Alexandre Herchcovitch show. Thanks, guys!

Yes, Virginia, I actually do have a life outside of 1515 Broadway, 17th Floor, and last night I exercised that right-to-life-ness by going to the super glam-a-rama launch party for MAC's super kawaii Hello Kitty collaboration.
The party was packed with models with legs the width of my forearms, Ciara and Teyana Taylor were there (Teyana underwent a total Wonder Woman transformation thanks to The Blonds, who've designed inTENSE metalwork for Rihanna and Britney, and they'll have a few pieces at the Grammys too), ZAC POSEN was there, and there were lots of "Socials" and such.
But SPEAKING of things that rhyme with "glam-a-rama," I ran into members of Tamarama, who are ALSO on a show you may watch called The City. More specifically, my fellow blogger/ friend Amber (pictured above -- she's totally the Jewish Blake Lively!) ran into Jay and Adam and snapped a picture with both -- they were super nice and obliging, and I don't usually get all OMGTHEHILLSCITY, but seriously ladies, Jay was painfully hot IRL. Like, my eyes started watering a little, and I had to walk away. (And no, Whitney wasn't there.)
Also, I noticed that Cobra Starship's Ryland parked his pleasurecraft at the party, which was held in Chelsea (and had not NEARLY enough bathrooms... the party, not Chelsea). Ryland was there with Alex Suarez, and seriously people HOW are you not listening to their side project, This Is Ivy League RIGHT this very moment? Oh yeah. Because you're watching The City. Fair enough.

The last time we Googled ourselves, we found a super-outdated Friendster profile we'd completely forgotten about (but the four-year-old photo put us at about 10 pounds lighter, so, bonus) and some old message board post that mentioned our name in the same breath as slap bracelets and nacho dip. (Beware! If Audrina Patridge taught us one thing, it's that the Internet always knows, and the Internet never forgets!)
The last time Teyana Taylor Googled herself, she probably found photos of herself keeping the company ofPharrell Williams, Jay-Z, Omarion, Busta Rhymes and the Heatherette guys (recall: they designed the custom-made dress she wore on My Super Sweet 16) in addition to media love from everyone from The Fader to Wired.com.

She's got Pharrell on speed dial, she choreographed Beyonce's "Ring the Alarm" video, laid down a few of her own moves in Jay-Z's "Blue Magic" video and has serious views on Obama, even though she's not even old enough to vote.
While Teyana Taylor's mainly known for her stint on a particularly infamous episode of My Super Sweet 16 -- recall the girl who entered her skate-themed shindig done up like a lifesized Barbie in rainbow brights -- the Harlem-bred dancer-rapper is about to drop her debut album, From A Planet Called Harlem, and, in pop culture parlance, become to Google what Lil Mama is to lip gloss.
Backstage at MTV Studios, before her TRL appearance, Teyana Taylor took a break from practicing high kicks to talk to Buzzworthy.
Buzzworthy: Tell us how you went from appearing on My Super Sweet 16 to being back here in the MTV building with your own video.
Teyana Taylor: It's pretty amazing, man. I've come a long way, and I worked hard. I was really grinding. I was on Sweet 16, but I'm really working hard and not trying to ride off the success of Sweet 16. Before I was on the show I was already signed, so I was already working pretty hard. But I didn't get on Sweet 16 for extra press -- it was something I always wanted to happen since I was younger since, when the show first aired. I'd always been a Sweet 16 fan.
BW: How'd you get signed to Star Trak?

Today is very special, not just because it's the first official day AFTER the 80th Annual Academy Awards (AKA Hangover Day in Hollywood). And by the way, when will they invite back Adrian Brody so he can make out with more people? Anyway, today is the first day of Spankin' New Ladies Week on TRL. And for those of you unfamiliar with Spankin' New, it has nothing to do with light bondage, you pre-vert.
Spankin' New Ladies Week on TRL is a non-stop revolving door of lady talent (and a few choice dudes too) and their new videos, appearances and live performances. Check out the immensity of the guest list:
