about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

Holy V-neck, Batman, I thought Zac Efron was putting out singles for a minute there. But it's actually a spruced-up John O'Callaghan of The Maine, and dude deserves a raise, because that blazer is looking all. right. on him. Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed the entirety of The Maine in their airport appearances (as part of the band's tour diary from a few months back, trust me, the dance parties were memorable), but this new production goes the extra mile, I would say, to hold my attention.

And yes, The Maine's new video, "Into Your Arms," off Can't Stop Won't Stop, is set in an airport and runs backwards -- VERY MUCH like David Cook's "Come Back To Me" video! But what David Cook's video lacks that The Maine has in spades is John O'Callaghan's lip curl! Hearts!

Watch a (former? potential?) flame going backwards in time through extreme airport hell while the guys of The Maine remain cool amidst chaos. I feel for this girl. But at least her hair looks good. And she also has a really close encounter with John. Why doesn't that happen to me at LaGuardia!?

Hit The Lights clearly didn't have a very good time in high school. The hard-hitting Lima, Ohio five-piece that takes its name from a track on Metallica's Kill 'Em All appears to be working out some old aggression in brand-new video, "Drop The Girl." Basically it's a revenge fantasy that takes aim at every bitter dude's favorite target: cruel hot chicks, AKA chicks out of their league. Oh, and the album is called Skip School, Start Fights. Hit The Lights, WHAT WENT WRONG???

But wait... Look at Hit The Lights. Burly arms, straight teeth, nice hats... They're kinda studly, right? What do they have to complain about? And not only that, but they're about to hit the road with 3OH!3, The Maine and way more of your favorite bands on the 2009 AP Tour. Girls love dudes in bands on big tours! I mean, don't you? Girls? Here, watch "Drop The Girl." Hit The Lights is waiting for you.

Sure, you love The Maine. Like seriously, psychotically luuuurve them. But do you know everything there is to know about your fave fivesome? Put your knowledge to the test by watching this exclusive interview with the band -- and finding out everything you (already?) knew but kinda forgot!

And we're talkin' everything from the story behind the band's name to the guys' high school M.O.'s (Think you can pick out the jock and the band geek??) plus the 411 on The Smallest Show Ever Played and an explanation for why the guys live in a van down by the river.

When you're thru, head over to MTV.com's Discover & Download for the perfect holiday stocking-stuffer: your very own copy of The Maine's "Everything I Ask For!" Best of all? It's free!!

They say everything comes full circle. So it's only fitting that The Maine's last ever tour diary (for now) brings us back to the dancing, stomping, applause-heavy pre-show ritual we saw/admired/ogled several weeks back. Natch, it's not exactly as we remembered it (the current reincarnation is less Six Flags Great Adventure and more Pants-Off Dance-Off), but we find the familiarity comforting nonetheless.

Course, not everything about this week's never-before-seen Maine footage is a total déjà vu. In addition to getting pumped before a show, the guys also contend with near-carsickness (apparently the smelly backseat was to blame), nail an MTV photo shoot (mission accomplished!), and light up the stage with a live performance of "Girls Do What They Want."

Check out their fourth on-the-road installment, then get back on the tour bus and relive the entire cross-country experience by taking another look at tour diaries 1, 2 and 3.

+ Love the Maine but hate the motion sickness that comes from being a fly on the wall of their tour bus? Watch the Maine's first-ever music video, "Everything I Ask For," shop for the perfect holiday stocking stuffer (Can't Stop Won't Stop -- the deluxe edition!), and flip through these make-love-not-war themed photos instead.

You know that old saying "you can never have too much of a good thing?" Well, it pretty much sums up how we feel about The Maine. Sure, we've gotten to go behind the scenes of their pre-show rituals, watch their first-ever music video, "Everything I Ask For," and hear the up-to-the-minute deets of their (almost) winter-proof wardrobes, but we're needy and possessive and borderline obsessed and, well, WE WANT MORE.

Fortunately, now we have it ... in the form of these super cute/totally exclusive MTV.com pics. Check 'em out, compare their poses to those fashionable ladies in their video, and see if you can figure out the theme for the shoot. (Judging by this pic, it seems to involve feathered hair, monochromatic clothes and, um, world peace.)

'Member when we hit you with the video premiere of The Maine's track "Everything I Ask For" last week? Well, our "Maine" man Jared (that's guitar hero Jared Monaco to you!) dropped us a line asking us to find out your thoughts about the fashionista-themed vid.

So have another look at their new video, catch up on the band's most recent tour blog and read on after the jump to find out the guys have been up to since perfecting their pre-show Gregorian chant. (Hint: It involves trying to stay warm and gearing up for a tryptophan-filled Turkey Day feast!)

Yesterday, we got to see sneak inside The Maine's dressing room and peep their pre-show pep rally. Today, we're following the pop-punkers as they shake things up at a fashion show, brave the scary paparazzi (No wonder Kanye popped em'!) and dish the dirrrty deets on dating high-maintenance chicks.

Check out the guys' brand new video, "Everything I Ask For," and find out why women are the cause of -- and solution to -- all of life's problems. Looks like the Devil really does wear Prada ...

+ Take another look at The Maine's latest tour diary and watch the guys sing "Everything I Ask For" live ... with a little help from their fans.

This tour diary goes out to anyone who's ever wondered how The Maine get ready to play a show. So what's their patented pre-show ritual? Well, we're not sure it has a name, but it involves a group huddle, some awkward dance-clapping and a loud, a cappella version of the Vengaboys' "We Like To Party."

(Bonus: In addition to being all kindsa cuters, The Maine's clap-happy warm-up has FINALLY given us a reason to stop associating that song with that creepy old dude from the Six Flags commercials. Score!)

Meanwhile, John, Garrett, Pat, Kennedy, and Jared also introduce us to the big, bad world of messy dressing rooms, low-visibility driving and airport dance parties. So hit the road and catch a glimpse of all the behind-the-scenes tour craziness, plus watch the guys take the stage for a rousing live rendition of "Everything I Ask For." Trust -- it's all that ... and a little bit more.

+ Missed last week's tour blog? Hop back on the bus and catch up on The Maine's first on-the-road shoutout.

Confession time! We've been obsessing over The Maine ever since their debut album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop dropped this past July. Partially cause of their killer guitar riffs, laid-back indie rock style and Boys Like Girls-like harmonies -- and partially cause of shaggy-haired lead singer-slash-hottie, John O'Callaghan. (Gah!)

And since we haven't had a chance to catch the guys on their cross-country pilgrimage -- a.k.a. the Compromising of Integrity, Morality and Principles in Exchange for Money tour -- we figured we'd have them send us a little update from the road. (BONUS: This means The Maine (or at least their tour manager) officially knows our email address!)

Check out these pics of the band tearing it up on tour, then read on to find out why John's simultaneously plugging prez-to-be Barack Obama -- and calling this the "absolute best tour" ever.
