about this blog

  1. Obsessively blogging about pop music, pop videos, pop stars, and pop culture from inside the MTV headquarters in Times Square. We also have a slight Jonas Brothers problem. And a little fixation with Tokio Hotel.

The men of New Found Glory are not taking this whole Twilight/New Moon/Vampire Diaries revolution lying down.

No, the South Floridian pop-punk mainstays are countering star-crossed love with some good ol' fashion blood and guts and zombies and demons in the vein of old-school horror master Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell...and some movies about a man who's also a spider) and George Romero (Night/Dawn Of The Dead).

"Don't Let Her Pull You Down" is from New Found Glory's Not Without A Fight album, which was released earlier this year. You say Twilight, NFG says backlash.

I love Twilight. You love Twilight. The votes have been counted: EVERYBODY LOVES TWILIGHT. But for serious, where do we draw the line?

Dressing up like characters? Sure, have at it. Rocking Team Edward or Team Jacob shirts? Why not? But, at a certain point, cooler heads have to prevail. Have we come to that point? Take a look at the latest piece of Twilight memorabilia and you tell me.

Behold: Robert Pattinson panties. For the woman who has everything... except for Robert Pattinson's icy, undead stare embroidered onto the front of her underwear.

Halloween is DAYS away! Time to GET ON YOUR COSTUME GRIND if you haven't yet. Too lazy to make your own Lady Gaga costume? Is Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment album cover proving too difficult to reproduce on a small budget? Well I don't know if you've noticed, but vampires are huge! They're the new Internet! New Moon is almost here (even though you've seen almost every clip of the movie)! Everybody's losing their collective brains over The Vampire Diaries! So a vampire-inspired Halloween is the W2G.

Wildfox's "My boyfriend is a vampire" t-shirt ($64, Singer22.com) already comes with some blood marks, in case you're too squeamish to get the job done for real. It also says "I'm Savin' It For Edward Cullen," but in a more discreet way. Just press on some "Vampire Red" nails by Kiss ($3.99, kissusa.com, drugstores), and get to that candy binge. Or just watch this Backstreet Boys vampire video. Happy Halloween!

More MTV "Halloween Horrors" for you. As the hallowed eve approaches, we've been checking with bands like Flyleaf and AFI about their trick or treat memories. Here, Florida band We The Kings set adrift on memory bliss and recall some rough (pumpkin) patches and their issues with Twilight and hot shewolves.

Travis Clark talks about the emotional scars left when a bunch of older kids yoinked his candy. While guitarist Hunter Thomsen bemoans getting saddled with black licorice. I gotta co-sign that; what an abomination of a candy. Disagree? I challenge thee to convince me otherwise in the comments.

New Moon swoon! Check out the lust-inducing cover of People magazine's New Moon collector's issue, and below, check out an exclusive photo of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in Eclipse.

The People New Moon collector's edition, which features BABY PHOTOS OF ROBERT PATTINSON (!!!!!) hits newsstands this Friday.

The best way to handle a fashion faux pas -- like say, for example, wearing jeans with suspenders -- is admitting that your look wasn't quite right. Which is exactly what Ashley Greene does in this brand-new episode of MTV.com's "What Were U Thinking." No, jeans and suspenders isn't the best look, but at least Ashley Greene -- for whom it's pretty hard NOT to look fantastic -- cops to it and moves on.

See which looks Ashley Greene got wrong and which she got absolutely right, like the black dress and Jimmy Choos she wore to the premiere of Twilight. Plus, find out more about the dress she wore to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and see which dress had boats on it and secret tutu underneath!

And find out more about Ashley Greene's amazing charity of choice, Donateyourdress.org.

As someone who's a long-time Death Cab For Cutie fan (I've seen them live probably 10 times) and a Twilight trilogy fan who's read New Moon and seen the New Moon trailers, I watched Death Cab For Cutie's brand-new "Meet Me On The Equinox" video and reacted (nay... GASPED!) in a manner not unlike superfan Nutty Madam when she watched the New Moon trailer.

Thoughts that raced through my head while watching Death Cab For Cutie's "Meet Me On The Equinox" video -- which features some serious New Moon footage -- included:

+ OMG! Bella's orange truck!

+ OMG NO DON'T LEAVE, EDWARD! I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW, EDWARD CULLEN! YOU'RE SO SEVERELY MISGUIDED!

+ ZOMG! Bella's on Jacob's motorcycle!

+ BELLA! NO! DON'T JUMP OFF THE CLIFF! YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS IT IS! DON'T YOU DARE!

+ OMG! Volterra!

+ OMG! Alice's fancy yellow sportscar!

+ OOH! Nick Harmer's beard looks cool!

+ AHHH! Bella's in the fountain!

+ WTS? HOW'D BELLA GET IN THE WATER?

+ OMG! RUN, BELLA, RUN! NO! WAIT, EDWARD! SHE'S ALMOST THERE! (DYING! BANGINGHEADAGAINSTKEYBOARDBLEEDINGBUTONLYMINORLY!)

But then I came to my senses (basically), and realized that yes, the video DOES have a gratuitous shot of a shirtless Edward Cullen, but digging a little deeper, Death Cab perfectly encapsulates the tension and pain, good and evil (note the darkness and light), and the race and the risk that Bella endures in New Moon. (And also, there's a shirtless Edward Cullen.) Now excuse me while I faint again.

Watch Death Cab For Cutie's "Meet Me On The Equinox" video, directed by Walter Robot, now.

In this brand-new behind-the-scenes video from Death Cab For Cutie, the band gives you an in-depth look at their song and forthcoming video, "Meet Me On The Equinox," the first single from the New Moon soundtrack.

Watch the band discuss the love story behind the "cultural monolith," in the words of Chris Walla, that is the Twilight series, the parallels between the lyrics of "Meet Me On The Equinox" and New Moon's storyline, and find out which member of Death Cab's super into vampires and werewolves.

Plus, listen to "Meet Me On The Equinox," and stay tuned for the MTV premiere of Death Cab For Cutie's "Meet Me On The Equinox" video on Wednesday, October 7.

Punk pop rockers Paramore unleash their brand-new, third album, Brand New Eyes, tomorrow, so what do we have for you as a cool, sneak peek treat? How about an exclusive MTV.com Unplugged performance from the band. Pretty good, right? You'll recall we teased you with photos last week, but here we have the full, real deal: six songs stripped down to their acoustic goodness.

Taped in New York earlier this fall, Paramore teared through hits "That's What You Get," "Misery Business" and "Decode" (from the "Twilight" soundtrack), plus two  brand new spankin' new songs from their latest album "Ignorance" and "Brick By Boring Brick." Watch these guys rip the roof off, semi, quietly.
