Katy Perry didn't have any explosive live performances at the 2011 VMAs, but her win for Video Of The Year was just one of three for the 26-year-old singer. The extravagant video for "Firework" won the night's top award, while Perry's sci-fi-themed "E.T." with Kanye West snagged Moonmen for Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects.

"It's always exciting to be a part of the VMAs because there's so much spontaneity," she told MTV News. "I just remember growing up seeing craziness ensued with the VMAs. I wasn't allowed to see it, but I done watched it!"

Perry accepted the Best Collaboration award with West, setting up one of the night's most memorable, and uncomfortable, moments. "Now, this is a time when you want to interrupt me, Kanye," Perry said, referencing Swiftgate '09. "Oh my goodness, it's nothing like your first time. Your first Moonman, right?" Perry apparently forgot West already picked up Moonmen for 2005's "Jesus Walks" and 2008's "Good Life." "No, I have one," West politely reminded her.

Perry has been a VMA mainstay since 2008, when "I Kissed A Girl" earned the singer five nominations. Since then, she's performed Queen's "We Will Rock You" with Aerosmith's Joe Perry and racked up 18 total nominations.

Fresh off the Noritaka Tatehana heels of today's big news that Lady Gaga will be performing live at the 2011 MTV VMAs comes three brand-new Lady Gaga VMA promo videos.

Gaga's just-released "Yoü And I" video, which took us on a psychological roller coaster ride through the ups and downs of her relationships, showed her in a forest clearing playing a piano topped with her alter ego, Jo Calderone. And in her 2011 MTV VMA promo videos, we also see Lady Gaga behind the piano singing "Yoü And I." Except this time, Lady Gaga and her jazz quartet, set in black and white, rearrange "Yoü And I" into a Beat-era jazzy torch song, followed by Gaga seductively removing her bra, turning "Yoü And I into a coquettish, near-burlesque striptease, ending with Gaga posing in what almost feels like a reference to the classic 1988 L'Instant Taittinger Champagne ad.

In keeping with the poetic Beat theme, Gaga gets philosophical, revealing that art is "a big giant lie" that she hopes will someday become true. And we also see Lady Gaga discussing the changing variables and environments that influence and inspire her songwriting: drunk, sober, happy and sad. (A normal range of feelings, emotions as well as occasional dalliances with alcohol? Maybe Gaga is actually human after all!)

Watch Lady Gaga's 2011 VMA: First Look promo videos, and don't miss "MTV First: Lady Gaga," an exclusive live Q&A on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 7:49 p.m. ET. to watch Gaga discuss her "Yoü And I" video and upcoming VMA performance, as well as make a special VMA announcement.

I suck horribly at video games -- honestly, even "Pac-Man" eludes me -- so it goes without saying that I'm terrible at "Monsoon" the game, but I know some of you die-hard Tokio Hotel fans have it mastered.

So who's cracked the code? And is there a level where you get to help Bill do his hair? What's your highest score? Erzähl mir!

The ever-humble mens of Tokio Hotel were nominated for a 2008 Best Pop Video VMA (you Tokio Hotel fans meant business when it came to voting TH into a nominee spot), but they're not exactly dead-set on a sweeping victory. So who do Tokio Hotel think has the prize patrol on lock? Here's a hint: they're all brothers, their name rhymes with "Bonus," and Bill says they're very "successful in America."

Check out MTV News' four-part interview with Tokio Hotel, and check back here at Buzzworthy for more exclusive Tokio Hotel footage tomorrow.

It's incredibly hard to believe, but neither Britney Spears or Mariah Carey have ever won an MTV Video Music Award. Really.

A VMA staple performer and presenter over the years, Britney has been nominated a whopping 16 times with zero Moonman statuettes to show for it. Similarly, Carey, a pillar of MTV (really, she holds up a corner of the building) has pulled down five solo nominations and one for her turn in a Busta Rhymes clip, and she, too, has netted a goose egg when it comes to walking out with an award tucked into her stylish diva bag.

Will that change this year? So far, Spears is nominated for two 2008 MTV Video Music Awards as her "Pieces of Me" video has made the cut in the Best Female Video and, as was announced earlier tonight on FNMTV, the Best Pop Video category. Will she go 18-0? Or maybe more, if she gets a nod in a category like Best Dancing in a Video, which opened up tonight for your votes, which will help MTV determine the final nominees.

Also in the Best Female Video category, Mariah is nominated for her hilarious "Touch My Body" video, which features Kenneth, the adorably dopey NBC page on 30 Rock. She could still pop up in some of the other categories, too, so she may have more than one shot in '08.

So the big, big, big question is: Will these obviously deserving bridesmaids ever get the chance to walk down the aisle with a Moonman on their arms?

Conspiracy theorists, we want you to mull this over a while. After the jump you can watch Brit and Mimi's '08 nominated videos while looking over the detailed list of their past nominations and launch your crackpot conclusions in the comments.

If there were such a thing as a Best Still-Rocking Band in the Universe award, we feel confident that Foo Fighters would merit the superlative statuette. And, it should be noted that this decision would be made completely independently of the fact that Dave Grohl was the drummer in Nirvana.

Here's our case:

- The Foo Fighters have been rocking, rolling and generally ruling the rock sphere for more than a decade. They can adeptly switch gears and go from silly (see their "Big Me" and "Learn To Fly" videos if you don't believe us) to serious ("My Hero" and "Stacked Actors") in less time than it takes some bands to tune their guitars.

- They've performed weddings on our very own MTV during their legendary "24 Hours Of Foo," which saw them more or less take over our channel.

- They once flew to Roswell, New Mexico, for just a few hours to perform inside the Roswell Industrial Air Center, where aliens purportedly crashed decades ago. (We were there! At the show ... not at the alien landing, duh.)

- They have absolutely incredible taste in music. For proof of that, check out their performance of Prince's "Darling Nikki" with no less than Cee-Lo Green singing lead during their massive VMA Fantasy Suite party below. In fact, check out their entire suite party concert with Mastadon, Queens Of The Stone Age/Eagles Of Death Metal and more! AND, check out their favorite videos as they displayed them this past weekend on MTV2 Saturday Rock the Deuce.

- The Foo Fighters have written, in our opinion, three of the best rock songs of late 20th-century history: "Everlong," "Breakout" and "My Hero."

- Despite the mind-reeling level of fame they've achieved, they never seem to sell out or screw up. You never hear about these guys being massive jerks -- in fact they're known for being some of the nicest guys in the business. When we've seen them at parties, they couldn't be more gracious or willing to go out of their way to express their appreciation (we once saw Dave hug every person in the room and patiently chat with everyone who tapped his shoulder to talk to him, but without being toolish in any way).

But none of this would probably matter much if they weren't some of the most skilled rockers around. Which is why we're celebrating the Foo Fighters (yes, we know you already know who they are) and their entire catalog as this week's Artist of the Week.

So, that and a MASSIVE crush on Dave Grohl (girls want him and guys wanna be him, or at least be his friend), are the many reasons why WE love this band. Why do YOU love them?

UPDATE: You've probably seen all of their on-air clips between shows this week on MTV. Well now they're all on online, so you can watch all of the Foo Fighters MTV spots, including their trip around NYC with... uh... "Gracie" and live performances, plus a full-length performance of "Everlong." (Swoon!)

OK. We’re still all about yesterday’s press conference where we announced the 2007 VMA nominees live on TRL. If you missed it, here are the highlights: Justin and Beyonce pretty much crushed the competition in terms of volume at least – they’re both up for seven Moonmen each! Timbaland, who’s the show’s Music Director (nice choice, huh?) and will also be performing a set (and if you caught him DJing at Justin Timberlake’s concerts, you know that’s beyond hot) pronounced himself the official “Maestro” and promised nothin’ but a par-tay up in his suite at the Palms in Vegas the night of the show (Sunday, September 9), and did his best politico impression when he neither confirmed nor denied the rumor that Britney Spears is gonna perform at the awards.

Oh, then surprise guest Kanye West pretty much took over the rest of the affair and issued a beat down to all of his foes, from Justice, the French band with the sleeper hit that just might possibly beat him out for Video Of The Year, to 50 Cent, who had the GAUL to set his album to drop the same day as Kanye’s. (September 11!) Read more...
