The Trace is that band you bring home to mom. They're badass on the outside, but probably great boyfriends supersweet on the inside. And please forgive me for not opening with a line about how talented The Trace are as musicians, but I got momentarily distracted by THEIR HANDSOME FACES.
Moving on to the tunes: Made up of four dudes from Bethlehem, PA, I'd like to call The Trace a pop-rock band because their songs are hooky enough to be pop tunes and hard-core enough to be rock songs. But there's something else floating around in the mix -- maybe it's the boys' heartfelt lyrics, or maybe it's their supertight harmonies, but The Trace possesses a unique quality that sets them apart from other pop rockers.
It's totally possible that this "quality" is actually the fact that these dudes have shared the stage with like, 10 trillion famous rockers. The Trace have performed alongside Hot Chelle Rae, Boys Like Girls, Yellowcard, The Ready Set, New Found Glory, All Time Low, Iyaz Jason Derulo and Honor Society, to name a few.
But it's not all rock for the boys. Ballads like "All In All" show the boys' softer, dare I say in-touch-with-their-feminine side: "I won't go/Until we're safe and sound/With your taste inside my mouth/Just saying, until this moment leaves/There's no place I'd rather be/Will you stay with me?" Again, this was the kind of band you could bring home to Mom! And Dad probably won't punch them out, either.
The Trace's new album The Trace EP is out now.

In "Sing For Me," the latest video off Yellowcard's When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes album, the Los Angeles-via-Jacksonville, Florida punk-pop quintet showcases their motivational and inspirational side. The group intersperses footage of the band with a cavalcade of motivational aphorisms and messages from those who have seemingly overcame difficult obstacles.
Directed by Robby Starbuck, who's helmed videos for Smashing Pumpkins, Breathe Carolina and Metric among many others, "Sing For Me" features what appears to be non-actors holding affirming homemade signs like "Realizing I am beautiful the way God made me" and "My family and friends give me strength."
It may seem cryptic until you learn the song's backstory: "Sing For Me" was written from the perspective of singer Ryan Key's terminally ill aunt Stephanie, who passed away earlier this year from brain cancer and was previously mentioned in "Rock Star Land" from 2001's One for the Kids. The video features poignant goodbye messages from the band and others including "I miss my friend" and "I miss you #82" along with presumable survivors wearing T-shirts that say "It's a miracle I'm alive." The blunt message from Key: "F*** Cancer."

When we first told you about "Moustachette" way back in 2009, we didn't really have much of a clue what the indie film starring Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump along with Yellowcard's Ryan Key would be about. We only knew we were in for a hilarious "quest for truth in a blanket of stupidity." Now that we've finally seen the full-length, 17-minute movie, we can tell you that... we still have no clue what's going on here.
Here's what we think might happen in "Moustachette": Patrick Stump plays a kind of down-and-out loser type, and he wants to be more like Pete Wentz's charismatic character. After some serious weirdness goes down with Yellowcard's Ryan Key (some kind of fake infomercial touting "Moustachette" is involved, IDK), I think the audience is supposed to realize that boisterous and rowdy Ryan is somehow Patrick's mentor? And after some soul searching and sleeping in a car, Patrick finally grows a backbone, takes a cue from Key and stands up to his jerk girlfriend.
Truth be told, we're not really sure what "Moustachette" is about or why it has that title or anything else regarding the plot. What we do know is there are enough F-bombs in the film to warrant a round of applause from Odd Future, and there are three guys from bands that we like in it. So that's enough for us to press "Play"!

You've bought all the albums, read all the interviews, and scoured the darkest recesses of the Internet for all things Yellowcard-related (including Buzzworthy, right?). Needless to say, you're a Yellowcard expert. But we got the Los Angeles-via-Jacksonville, Florida punk-pop quintet in the studio to tell us five things you didn't know about them.
In the video below, the guys let you in on a ton of info about their favorite movies, sports and music. Turns out three of the five members are the most famous college dropouts not named Kanye. But which one re-enrolled, only to drop out again?
Luckily, a lack of diplomas hasn't stopped these dudes from being well-rounded. "We actually don't communicate to one another," says violinist Sean Mackin. "We talk through movie lines." (The guys are partial to Anchorman, The Big Lebowski and Swingers, if you're compiling early Christmas lists.) Lead singer Ryan Key also reveals which movie trailer he was recently in that earned him a spot in the film's credits, but not the film itself.
Finally, you may've already known about the group's sports obsession, but did you know Key owns a white English bulldog in deference to the Georgia Bulldogs? "I pretty much moved to [Athens, Georgia] to go to football games," admits Key. Hey, there are way worse reasons to move somewhere.

Last week, we brought you the premiere of Yellowcard's brand-new "Hang You Up" video, which saw frontman Ryan Key harassing customers at a fast-food restaurant while pining for his ex-girlfriend. It's a great video, but at the heart of it is a gorgeously melancholy song about heartbreak. So we had Yellowcard come to MTV HQ in New York City to give us an acoustic version of the song. It's the first time the band ever played the song in an acoustic setting, and the results are quietly powerful.
The Los Angeles-via-Jacksonville, Florida punk-pop quintet strips down any rock elements in their power ballad, showcasing their stunning melodies, stirring crescendos and sullen strings. Lest you had any doubts about Key's singing ability -- and why would you? -- watch the singer emote without any recording trickery or gimmicks. Something his peers could take a lesson from.
After a three-year hiatus, Yellowcard returned to recording last year and released their seventh album When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, earlier this year. Judging by the video below, the camaraderie and musical synergy is still very much alive.
Yellowcard addresses the hiatus and how it felt to come together and play "Hang You Up" acoustically as a newly reformed band in a video interview below.

"It's definitely something we haven't really done before," frontman Ryan Key says of the Chris Marrs Piliero-directed video. "The song is a little bit heavy... and I think we all wanted to make sure with the video we weren't taking ourselves too seriously and making it some emotional piece of a video."
In the lighthearted video, Key is seen pining for an ex-girlfriend and annoying those around him with his constant singing and thieving of milk shakes.
At one point, the singer jumps through the drive-through window where he works after spotting his ex. "I had to jump out of a drive-through window about 30 times," Key says. "It was really challenging. Those windows are small! The first time I did it, they were going to put all this padding down for me. I was like, 'Guys, it's like three feet. I got it.'"
As Key notes in the video below, Yellowcard's goal was simple: "If you don't laugh, then we failed completely."

Yesterday, we brought you behind-the-scenes footage of Yellowcard's new video "Hang You Up," and today, we've got the premiere of the real thing.
You think you had it rough trying to get over an ex? Try singing to one who already has a restraining order against you as Yellowcard frontman Ryan Key does in the "Hang You Up" video, directed by highly talented Chris Marrs Piliero. Maybe Ryan's a nice guy, but the reasons for the breakup add up: singing while a guy next to you is trying to use the phone. Stealing a milk shake. Countering a drive-through order by singing through the intercom. It's total breakup material, and takes the song's sad subject matter and gives it a little unexpected levity while providing some surreal commentary on video cliches.
Eventually, our hero tracks down his ex, who's clearly not happy about the incessant singing in their relationship -- something you probably want to think about before you start dating a singer. We won't give it away, but fear not for Ryan's love life. He'll be fine. His boss at the restaurant, though, really needs to reconsider his hiring standards.
Yellowcard's video for "Hang You Up," the second single off the group's seventh album, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, is a great example of the group's lighthearted vibe and goofy spirit. Check it out below.

Last time we saw Yellowcard, the punk-pop quintet was about to become roadkill in "For You And Your Denial." Luckily, they survived unscathed and are ready to give us a special behind-the-scenes look at the making of their video for "Hang You Up," the group's second single off the recently released When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes.
Violinist Sean Mackin and lead singer Ryan Key are your friendly narrators in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from their "Hang You Up" video -- directed by Chris Marrs Piliero -- as Mackin jokingly states that the "sheer aura of standing next to [Key] warms my heart." Awwww. We also get to see Yellowcard teasing the cast -- does that chick not look like Heidi Montag?-- and battling through hair and makeup.
We love "Hang You Up" because while the song is a bona fide bummer, it looks like the band opted for a comedic video, staying true to Yellowcard's playful, lighthearted vibe.

Yellowcard is back after a two-year hiatus with the group's first single, "For You And Your Denial," from the upcoming album When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes, due out March 22. And we have the video premiere!
The full-length video for Yellowcard's "For You And Your Denial" doesn't stray too much from the video sneak peek we posted last week. We see the guys rocking out on an open desert road with their backs to the camera. There are lots of tight shots of lead singer Ryan Key singing into the mic, a couple studded belt sightings and some skinny jeans! In the meantime, we see a pretty hot girl driving a sports car on said desert road, and the whole time you're wondering, "Where is this chick going? What kind of lip gloss is she wearing? Are we ever going to see Yellowcard's faces?"
No, you never see Yellowcard's collective faces, but maybe that's a metaphor for the song. As in, "you can't see our faces anymore because we're walking away from this crappy relationship?" Or maybe we're wrong. Either way, it's very much "welcome to the open road that is your newly single life." And it works. Especially that sad violin.
