Meet MTV's latest Artist To Watch: highbrow indie rock quartet Alt-J.

There are a few things to know about the Cambridge, U.K.-based, Leeds-formed Alt-J, the first of which being that they're an indie rock band who DO. NOT. MESS. AROUND. Each track in the four-piece's repertoire is its own perfectionist work of art, like the Wild Beasts-esque "Matilda," the heavier-than-expected "Fitzpleasure," and the xylophone-tinged "Breezeblocks." Their debut album, An Awesome Wave, a quirky mixture of folk, pop, hip-hop, trip-hop, and synth riffs, took a whopping five years to complete before the members were satisfied (who has that kind of patience?). But their dedication didn't go unrewarded -- Alt-J took home the prestigious British Mercury Prize for their 2012 disc. That's like the musical equivalent of being admitted to Harvard -- fitting, really, since Alt-J were originally a college band. But how many of those actually "make" it?

The twin indie-poppers Tegan & Sara will co-host the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards with Cleveland rapper MGK.

Tegan & Sara and MGK are hosting the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards in Austin!

The 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards are coming up NEXT WEEK, MY FRIENDS. (The show premieres March 17 at 8 p.m. E.T. on MTV and mtvU, in case you forgot.) And in addition to an already stellar lineup of performers, including chart toppers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, now the Woodies have even MORE star power: Indie-poppers and nominees Tegan & Sara will host this year's Woodie Awards, along with "Wild Boy" and Woodie winner MGK!! Aaand now we're having a lot of fun imagining that onstage dynamic -- Tegan and Sara seem totally chill, and MGK seems, well, like MGK.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will perform at the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards!

The 2013 Woodie Awards are just around the corner! Yep, we're serious: mtvU's annual indie music celebration is heading back to Austin, Texas, next month (aka bands and BBQ sauce for miles). And while there's already some stuff you do know about the event, like how rapper-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will be hitting three lucky colleges on the 2013 Woodies Tour (leading up to the main show), now the Branching Out Woodie nominees and 2013 Artists To Watch are slated to perform at the actual Woodie Awards on March 14 during the SXSW Music festival! And that's not the only news (because there's never just ONE thing) -- Breaking Woodie nominees English alt-rockers and Mercury Prize Winners Alt-J, singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, and Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ will perform on two Woodie festival stages in the days leading into the main show.
