It's Tuesday! Time for another round of "5 Must-Hear Pop Songs Of The Week"!
This week's roundup features sad, sad disco from across the pond, a slammin' remix of one of the year's most euphoric pop anthems, and a moody alt-R&B ode to miscommunication.
1.) Katy B, "Crying For No Reason"
Need a good reason to cry? Obviously. U.K. alt-dance diva Katy B has been churning out reliably gorgeous, '90s house-leaning tunes for well over a year now -- from "What Love Is Made Of" to "5 AM." "Crying For No Reason," the latest single off of her upcoming sophomore LP, Little Red, however, takes the songstress into the touchy territory of sad disco balladry.
The result is one of Katy's most earnest, heartbreaking productions yet: "How can I walk with a smile, get on with my day/ When I deceived myself pretending it's all OK," Katy cries above the gorgeous, glittering pulsations -- recalling a little bit of Robyn and Girls Aloud in the process. And then, when the track soars, and she starts belting out that devastating chorus at the very end? "Feel the tears roll down!" Oh no. Good luck getting through this one without a box of tissues on the dance floor.

It's Tuesday! Time for another round of "5 Must-Hear Pop Songs of the Week"!
This week's roundup features a legendary U.K. girl group's Stateside studio sessions, a brilliant Janet reinterpretation, futuristic R&B, and a celebration of the ultimate disco diva. Come and get it!
1.) MKS, "Lay Down in Swimming Pools"
Ah, MKS: the greatest girl group to never debut...yet. For the past year, the original members of the iconic British girl group Sugababes have been holed up in studios across the U.K. and America carving out what will be an inevitably immaculate (re-)debut -- their first together since 2000's One Touch. And at long last, we got a taste of something new last week: "Lay Down In Swimming Pools," an interpolation of Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" produced by Solange's BFF, Dev Hynes. Harmonizing above a faded, blurry R&B beat, the girls po' it, po' it up together. It's a refreshing sound, and all the girls sound fantastic (especially Siobhan's moment toward the end!) For a group that hasn't made new music in more than a decade, they've never sounded quite so fresh.

Meet Jarell Perry: He's joining the neo-soul ranks of singers like Frank Ocean and Miguel.
In 2012, R&B got a lot darker, more intellectual, and developed a lot of feelings (more than usual, that is). 2012 was when we officially met alternative R&B players like Miguel, Frank Ocean, and The Weeknd -- artists' artists who blurred the line between contemporary R&B and neo-soul. Well, 2013, it's time to meet alt-R&B's latest contender, Jarell Perry.
