Bummed we missed the flight.
Videos are essentially advertisements for songs, right? And, while this new video for Joey Bada$$'s 'My Yout' certainly works on that level, it's also kind of doing an even better job as vacation inspiration. Who directed this thing, St. Lucia's minister of tourism?
Bada$$ brings his Brooklyn flavor to the tiny Caribbean island, and the results are a contrast of styles and imagery that make us want to get up and move in more ways than one.

Joey Bada$$ gets hyper-lyrical on the '90s-nodding "95 Til Infinity."
Joey Bada$$ may not remember much of the '90s (he was born in '95), but he is undeniably a '90s child. Just look at songs like "Unorthodox," "Wendy N Becky," and "Underground Airplay": Each track sounds like it came straight from the era of The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, slap bracelets, and "Seinfeld."
Now, on his new song, "95 Til Infinity," a direct nod to Souls of Mischief's "93 Til Infinity," Joey destroys a floaty, spacey beat that would also fit in perfectly with Buzzfeed's favorite decade. Lace up your L.A. Lights or British Knights, folks. It's a '90s party!

Joey and Pro Era pay tribute to Capital Steez in their new "Like Water" video.
This should have been the best year of Joey Bada$$' life. To date, he's worked with the likes of Big K.R.I.T., DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip; he was named one of MTV's Artists To Watch in 2013; and he's gearing up to release his first full-length album, B4.Da.$$. But some of that joy was taken away when his dear friend and fellow Pro Era member Capital Steez took his own life last December. Wanting to honor him, the New York crew finally put their feelings into visuals with the new video, "Like Water," from their PEEP The aPROcalypse mixtape.

Tegan & Sara and MGK are hosting the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards in Austin!
The 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards are coming up NEXT WEEK, MY FRIENDS. (The show premieres March 17 at 8 p.m. E.T. on MTV and mtvU, in case you forgot.) And in addition to an already stellar lineup of performers, including chart toppers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, now the Woodies have even MORE star power: Indie-poppers and nominees Tegan & Sara will host this year's Woodie Awards, along with "Wild Boy" and Woodie winner MGK!! Aaand now we're having a lot of fun imagining that onstage dynamic -- Tegan and Sara seem totally chill, and MGK seems, well, like MGK.

Joey Bada$$ gets the animated treatment in his latest clip for "Unorthodox."
Rappers like Brooklyn's Joey Bada$$ are in the business of painting what writers call "word pictures." He's not just deft at turning a phrase and killing the delivery, but he's also especially good at constructing graphic and vivid tales via his lyrics -- he gets you right in there. Now, in his video for the DJ Premier-produced "Unorthodox," a free single from Green Label Sound, Joey's words are literally brought to life.

Joey Bada$$ trades New York for Chicago on his latest jam, "Wendy N Becky."
Though he's dedicated to staying on the indie track, up-and-coming Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ is playing his collaboration cards just right as far as we're concerned. The breakout Pro Era star has independently worked with everyone from A$AP Rocky to Mac Miller, teamed up with DJ Premier on the recently released "Unorthodox," and joined Big K.R.I.T and Smoke DZA on "Underground Airplay." Now, the 2013 Artist To Watch, a tried and true East Coaster, is crossing state lines to work with Chicago's Chance The Rapper on a new track called "Wendy N Becky."

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will perform at the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards!
The 2013 Woodie Awards are just around the corner! Yep, we're serious: mtvU's annual indie music celebration is heading back to Austin, Texas, next month (aka bands and BBQ sauce for miles). And while there's already some stuff you do know about the event, like how rapper-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will be hitting three lucky colleges on the 2013 Woodies Tour (leading up to the main show), now the Branching Out Woodie nominees and 2013 Artists To Watch are slated to perform at the actual Woodie Awards on March 14 during the SXSW Music festival! And that's not the only news (because there's never just ONE thing) -- Breaking Woodie nominees English alt-rockers and Mercury Prize Winners Alt-J, singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, and Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ will perform on two Woodie festival stages in the days leading into the main show.

Joey Bada$$ goes underground (literally) with Big K.R.I.T. and Smoke DZA in their "Underground Airplay" video.
It's no surprise that a rapper like Joey Bada$$ has found a comfortable home in underground, throwback-inspired hip-hop. The young Brooklyn MC (and MTV "Artist to Watch" in 2013) wraps his rapid-fire rhymes in gully, marauding '90s hip-hop beats and had the privilege of rapping on a song like "Unorthodox" (created by seminal hip-hop producer DJ Premier), which is just MORE evidence to the kind of revivalist sound Joe gravitates to. Now, Joey's teaming up with fellow NY rapper Smoke DZA and Southern rhymer Big K.R.I.T. (aka The Smokers Club) on "Underground Airplay," set to appear on Ecko Unlimited's (yep, the clothing line) Underground Airplay mixtape.
