Welcome to Buzzworthy's "The Week In Pop," where we round up new album releases, talk show musical guests, and TV performances by your favorite pop stars and more (so you don't have to).
This week, Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience finally arrives (check out Buzzworthy's track-by-track review with GIFs)! Tune in tomorrow to The CW at 8 p.m. ET for "Target Presents the iHeartRadio Album Release Party With Justin Timberlake." Also, O Music Awards nominees Walk Off The Earth make their major-label debut with R.E.V.O., and Britpop mavens Suede return with Bloodsports, their first album in 11 years. Meanwhile, The RZA combs Stax Records vaults for a new soul compilation. In movie news, Selena Gomez's "Spring Breakers" premieres in theaters on Friday (catch her on "Late Show With David Letterman" tonight, "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" tomorrow, and "Live With Kelly And Michael" on Thursday). The week caps off on Saturday with Nickelodeon's "26th Annual Kids' Choice Awards," featuring performances by Ke$ha and Pitbull with Christina Aguilera, and musical nominees include Taylor Swift, One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez.
NEW ALBUM RELEASES
+ Justin Timberlake, The 20/20 Experience: At last JT answers the seven-years-long wait for new material with a retro-meets-modern sleek 10-song set. With the help of producer Timbaland, JT's vibe on 20/20 is all about style, sprawl, and mood versus instant gratification hits. Take the ornate "Pusher Love Girl" with its swinging horns and orchestral arrangements and the anthemic "Mirrors." There's also "Spaceship Coupe," whose payoff unfurls in a searing guitar solo. While much of the material is more suited for smooth, romantic chilling ("Blue Ocean Floor") than bumping on the dancefloor, "Don't Hold The Wall" and the island funk of "Let The Groove Get In" are hip-swaying jams.
+ Walk Off The Earth, R.E.V.O.: The Canadian quintet made waves with their clever YouTube video cover of Gotye and Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used To Know" last year, where the band all played one acoustic guitar. To date their video has more than 147 million views, and both Gotye and Kimbra even tweeted their approval of the group's rendition. While the band's been together for five years, R.E.V.O. (which stands for Realize Every Victory Outright) is their Columbia Records debut, which houses the Gotye cover plus 10 original songs. Check out the rousing title song and the rhythmic "Red Hands," which both feature lovely harmonies and anthemic choruses.
+ Suede, Bloodsports: As far as British invasions go, Suede (aka The London Suede) may not have been a full-on household name Stateside (unless you were at a British music-obsessed home like mine), but their wave of Britpop was massively influential overseas. Their self-titled debut topped U.K. charts and earned them a Mercury Prize two decades ago, followed by two more No. 1 albums. Bloodsports is their first album in 11 years and its classic, glammy, New Romantic sound is bound to make veteran fans swoon while still attracting new ones. Frontman Brett Anderson's vocals are rich with emotion on songs such as "Snowblind" and "For The Strangers." Also, grab a free download of awesome new song, "Barriers" over at MTV Hive.
